Such a disappoinment. It really makes great drinks and is a lot of fun to use. It just keeps leaking water everywhere!! After some online research I found this way a common problem and De'longhi don't seem to be able to fix it. So it goes back and I will try another brand.

How did I ever live without this? After much research on super automatic espresso machines I purchased the delonghi magnifica. Every morning I look forward to having a latte or espresso. I haven't been to starbucks since. I highly recommend this machine. It does it all.

I started so overwhelmed. I was used to kuerig, this is so much. I've hit my stride, and loving my morning latte! So easy! Not really much more time consuming than single cup brewers.

I have a very expensive superautomatic coffee maker at home but at my lake home I got this not cheap, but less expensive machine. It does everything I want it to and makes nice frothy milk for latte type beverages, but makes fine coffee, too. My son got a refurbished machine and he likes his, too, but I got a new one. We both like them a lot.

The machine takes about 75 seconds to power up, and a double coffee takes right about 1 minute 30 seconds to brew. Once I got used to these timings, I don't mind them at all because the coffee comes out consistently perfect... every time. This is rapidly becoming my favorite coffee maker of all time. Pros: Taste, flavor, consistency Cons: (nothing yet that I can't work around) For example, it doesn't let you know you're out of beans until you hear the grinder sounding different, but it's easy to stop the brew by pressing "brew" again, fill the beans, and start over. It doesn't use beans very fast which is really nice. And it doesn't let you know you're out of water until it runs out, so I've gotten a few half-sized cups from this. But, it's so easy to fill and brew some more. And I love how it cleans itself.

We had a different model for about 10 years. We got this one this week. It makes great coffee, tea, lattes and is much quieter than the old machine.

I got mod this machine because I liked the ESAM3500 model and thought it was time for an upgrade. Unfortunately, this espresso and cappuccino maker is not what I expected. Issues: • The machine isn't able to just able to froth milk. The only way to get froth milk is selecting cappuccino and stopping the coffee machine before it starts pouring the coffee. • You can't turn off the auto shutoff time. It seems like the machine turns off every 30 minutes. After that, the machine dispenses water to clean the nozzle and turns off. Then, when you turn it on again, it again dispenses more water to clean the nozzle before it starts up - this whole process uses a lot of water and is very inconvenient. • The machine also lacks the ability to tell if it has enough water for the coffee selected - resulting in half made cups of coffee. Overall, this machine was a waste of money and I hope my review prevents anyone from making the mistake I made. **I'd choose the non-smart version**

We have owned for at least 15 years a de'Longhi magnificate totally automatic coffee machine that was digital and made every possible thing you could want in any size and with any strength. It still works wonderfully. We donated it to a school because we were moving and were hoping this would be as good. Not so. It turns off almost as soon as you turn it on, it uses an enormous amount of water cleaning everything , is very limited in what you can make, and it wants to be descaled every 2 or 3 weeks. But the real problem is that it seems to jam up and then will not finish what it starts especially if you have company and are making several cups of something. And using ground coffee always messes it up. If it was possible we would return it... has been a definite disappointment!!!!

This could be a wonderful machine and would have gotten 5 star if it worked as directed. The reason for 3 star is the great support from Amazon and okay support from Delonghi. I inboxed it and set it up per instructions. Then it would not power on. No matter what combinations of the rear power switch and the front panel button switch that I tried. There was no flicker of lights on the front panel. After an hour I call the support number and got Amazon. The first call was dropped because I was clumsy because of me trying to follow instructions and hold the phone conversation. I called the support number again and got a support person who walked through basic procedures that I had already alone and then called Delonghi who were not there. We arranged to call them the next day. Some hours after this call I ride the power and panel switches and the BREW light started blinking and when I press the BREW button it did a water purge and nothing else. On pressing the brew button again it produced the coffee in the oic. I had no idea or control over what coffee drink was produced. No other lights came on. The next day with the Delonghi call the machine did power on cycle but no lights came on. The rep said it was defectictive but suggested it might be a refurbished unit not a new and did not know why there was an orange sticker on the front panel. He needed to see my paper work to get a replacement but had to receive my machine back first. That’s it, broken out of the box, service seems good but cannot recommend the product. Sorry cant send the pic

This is a good machine. Some of the parts are plastic, but it is a great value for the money. It is very easy to use and requires little maintenance. The milk steamer hold quite a bit of milk. Easy to pour in coffee, clean drip tray, etc. I would recommend. We use ours several times a day.

So glad we bought this machine. After using Nespresso for years we decided to go big on a real coffeemaker. So far I have been very impressed by the quality and flavor of brew this machine produces. It takes the guesswork out and makes consistent tasting coffee every time. The machine is a little louder than a Nespresso but that’s expected as it’s grounding fresh coffee. Also in the long run it’s cheaper than paying for Nespresso pod. Highly recommend.

This was meant to be a surprise Christmas gift for my wife. Imagine my surprise when I opened it and it had clearly been used. Coffee grounds all over the place, see attached pictures. Now it's too late to get her a new gift for Christmas and the surprise is ruined. You don't expect to get a used item when you're buying a high-end superautomatic... Update: Delonghi got in touch with me soon after I posed the review and basically took care of it from there. The return went smoothly and they were very apologetic about the used machine being sent out. They did replace it with a new machine and it works quite well. Not exactly the same as having a manual milk frother but dang close. And for the convenience of not having to clean up a mess and deal with making your own espresso every time its 100% worth it. We've basically stopped going to our local coffee house because it's just so nice to wake up and make a cappuccino and relax for 5 minutes in the morning with your coffee. Saves money and hassle free. Would def recommend. And Delonghi did put a cherry on top with the great customer service.

I had the full manual express espresso machine. Then I switch to this full auto machine. Who doesn’t love a (Consistent) espresso shot with a push of a button? But I can get a better taste out of my full manual espresso machine. Still the delonghi is a keeper.

As stated: I’m back to update my review and update to as fully deserved 5 star reviews. The issues I was having related to making cappuccinos/lattes, was not the machine. It was the dial component on the milk jug! Delonghi customer service was great at sending me the replacement and I now have piping hot, perfectly foamed/steamed almond milk, sometimes light cream, sometimes heavy cream topped cappuccinos and lattes as well as a perfect cup of coffee! I now can say, my purchase was worth every cent! I was a $6/day latte/cappuccino gal so in the long run, my purchase should pay for itself- Im using Lavazza beans and find my coffee has a nice creamy top unlike any other brands I’ve tried. I’ll need to come back to update my review as I am having issues with the milk jug and am being sent a replacement. Because of the upcoming holidays, I wanted to get in a review for those who are considering a purchase. First, I do think the machine is expensive but if you want an automatic system where the machine tells you what is wrong, has a good grinder, ample water system, option for a water filter and push button ease of operation- go for it. If you don’t mind doing the work manually, go for a cheaper option. I opt for the machine doing the work for me. Aside from my milk jug malfunctions, when the system works as designed, it’s flawless. I choose my selection, load my milk- I’ve used almond as well as heavy cream, choose my grind, my strength and my cup size- and I have a perfect brew. The machine tells me when water is empty, when it needs to be descaled, when my grind is too fine, when the waste tray need to be emptied- it’s great. It makes multiple cups in a day, shuts off automatically after a couple of hours and is convenient, not taking up too much space and fitting under my counter. If my milk jug worked consistently( it constantly tells me the knob is set wrong or needs to be cleaned) I would have given this 5 stars. Customer service has been helpful. Read the instructions so you know what to expect!

Waited several months to review. Really happy with the purchase. It makes great coffee and it has been easy to maintain. I love that it self cleans and I only need to wipe it down and run the descaling process every few weeks. This was an expensive purchase but will quickly pay for itself in replacement of the daily trips to the coffee shop. My original machine did not work correctly. The milk attachment was not working. I called the support line and had a great experience. They hopped on a video call and within 20 minutes declared I should just get a new machine sent and created an RMA. The process was all very simple since I still had all the original packaging. It did take longer than I would have liked to receive the replacement but it was not a hassle other than the wait. I do think Delonghi could do better here. They did such a great job with the hard part .. which is the human support to then sort of fail on the parts that ought to be automated and fast is a bit disappointing. I am not docking them at all though because the support was still good. I bought this to keep my wife from the daily coffee shop purchases and it has worked. She likes the coffee. I also like it but I was surviving on brewed coffee before this so I am not hard to please. She makes cappuccinos mostly and sometimes adds an extra espresso shot to it. My preference is to first do a brewed coffee and then add a latte in the same cup. That gives me the coffee to milk ratio that I prefer. The machine keeps itself clean. We keep a coffee mug under the spout to catch all the dirty water and that makes the whole thing easier. The only real maintenance we need to do is wipe it down, occasionally rinse out the milk jug and run the descaling process when the indicator light comes on. We have fairly hard water and have to do that a little more often than I like but it has just become routine now. It did mean putting the descaling solution on auto delivery though. No surprise but the coffee beans you use matters a lot. We mostly use Lavazza beans now but we will supplement with a bag from Starbucks when needed. Based on other reviews I stick with Medium Roast which I guess works better with these machines.

Great flavor. Many coffee drink options. I enjoy the cappuccinos and the fact that milk is automatically steamed for the drink. I like that I can subsequently add another shot of espresso for my taste. The separate milk container is convenient, I can place it in fridge (with milk) between uses and only fully take apart and wash all components when I’m ready (every few days, if it is only me having coffee in the mornings). It clearly does require extra steps of adding coffee beans, removing coffee grounds, adding water, adding milk - but once you go through the process a couple of times, it becomes 2nd nature and easy to use.

I have had my machine for a week and love it. Easy to use. Does a great job. Only downside is that my coffee consumption has increased because it is so easy to get another cappacino. I particularly like the ease of use for the steamed milk. I have totally moved away from using half and half with being able to do a cappacino so readily with a nice head of foam.

What a great machine. I’ve had it for nine months and make 4 to 5 cappuccinos every day. Very frothy if you find the right milk. I went through a half a dozen brands of milk before I found the right one. 2% seems to work the best but the brand I use is a Pennsylvania company called trickling Springs. The froth will stay for a half an hour or more. For the type of water I use I only need to descale it every two months . What’s the machine let you know when it’s time. Use a high-quality espresso beans and you’re good to go . Starbucks pales in comparison . I roasted my own coffee beans for 20 years so I have made my own blend . I purchased the extra five year warranty . But at the time I bought the machine it was $150 less so it was worth it for peace of mind . If you love espresso and cappuccino as much as I do this machine is the one .

I recently got the Magnifica S Cappuccino Smart machine from DÄ“Longhi. Don't let the name fool you. This machine makes all types of specialty coffee drinks. Cappuccinos, Lattes, Expressos, and also what they call the Americanos! We have three different coffee lovers in my house. We each like different style coffees. I flip flop between the cappuccinos and lattes, my son is a cappuccino freak, and my husband is the straight up espresso drinker. Our mornings were so crazy before getting this machine! We would just go to the coffee shop down the street. No one likes getting up in the morning and having to drive over to the local coffee shop and have a barista make our coffees for us, but we did. More times a week than I care to mention. I can't tell you what a huge toll it took on my pocket! I can tell you that we are going to save a lot of money with this machine! Having this machine means to never having to go to the coffee shop again! No more bickering between my husband and I are about who's going to go get the coffee that morning OR having to wait till it's time to go to work to grab our coffee. The great thing about this machine is it's able to make the three different coffees we like quicker than it would be to drive to the coffee shop, or to attempt to make them at home. As a matter of fact it made our three different style coffees quicker than it took me to brew 8 cups using the traditional drip style coffee maker. ((I put it to the test.) The machine doesn't take up a lot of space. It sits nicely on my counter. Cleaning the internal lines and milk frother are easy. Just to push of the button and the lines are cleaned making it ready for the next cup. Ensuring a fresh coffee no matter what style you drink. I mean it really is amazing! Once I familiarized myself with the buttons and what they were for, I became a barista! LOL Have a member of the family or guest that doesn't drink coffee? No worries, the Magnifica S has a hot water spout that is interchangeable with the milk container. The milk carafe itself is easily detachable. Remove it from the machine and store the unused portion in the refrigerator until the next time you need it, eliminating waste. It holds up to 60 oz of water in the water tank at any given time. It has an adjustable spout in order to accommodate all types and size coffee cups, it's capable I'm making two cups of coffee at once. You can make a small cup of coffee or a large cup of coffee or both. It also has an automatic grinder built directly in the machine so you can have fresh ground brewed coffee. I so love the smell of fresh ground coffee in the morning! If you prefer using already ground coffee, no worries flip the switch lift the lid and add your pre-ground coffee. There is a little pull-out tray built-in at the bottom of the machine. This is where the compressed used grinds end up.. They look like black coins. No messy grinds to deal with! Just dump them in the garbage, rinse out the tray and replace it. One feature I love about this machine is every time you power it on it automatically cleans itself by flushing the lines. lines out so you can start fresh each and every time you begin to brew. It's recommended that you clean the easy to reach infuser about once a month. Descaling the machine is recommended every 3 months depending on the hardness of your water. The 60 oz water container comes out to be washed and can be reattached very easily. The removable parts are dishwasher safe. It has a drip pan attached to the bottom of the machine with a float. The little red float will pop up letting you know that it's time to empty the pan. The Magnifica S also comes with a starter pack that contains everything to get you started. Included in the pack is the scoop for pre-ground coffee, water filter, the descaling solute solution and much more. Everything you need to run this machine is included.(except for the coffee, sugar and milk of course..lol ) It's super quick and easy to put together. Once you do that and familiarize yourself with the controls you're ready to go! I'm so happy to have this in my kitchen. As such a big coffee lover I am so grateful to know that I will get the BEST cup of coffee I've ever had EVERY SINGLE DAY! If you find yourself needing questions answered, you can always go to the DeLonghi website. They have customer service reps that will happily answer your questions and also videos to help you through. If I were to sit here and list every great thing about this machine this review would be three pages long. I just wanted to hit on the main things that were so great, wonderful and easy about this machine. It's time saving, money saving, compact. Last but not least it is easy! I really cannot ask for a better machine! So I highly, highly recommend the DÄ“Longhi Magnifica S Smart Cappuccino machine. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This slim, counter-friendly espresso maker punches way above its lower pricepoint and relative dearth of bells and whistles. While lacking the configurability of the 2x more expensive ECAM45760B, coffee grinding and strength are all adjustable; milk consistency and amount less so. Nevertheless, this limited customization was perfect for me. One star was taken away from ‘Easy to use’ for its legendarily incomplete manual: YouTube and Amazon Q&A are where you’ll learn to use your Magnifica S.

The De’Longhi Magnifica is beyond amazing! I am a newbie in the world of automatic espresso machines and normally seek out my local coffee shop when the craving arises. But not anymore—this machine is fantastic! The price is worth every penny and will pay for itself in a couple of months. I recommend reading the manual completely before beginning to brew. It is very easy to use. The milk frothed surpasses my expectations. You can easily brew coffee, espresso, macchiato, or cappuccino. The machine has features built-in that clean the milk frothed and coffee spouts. The maintenance is easy. I love that it does not take up a large amount of space on my counter. The machine makes the smoothest coffee I have ever enjoyed! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Have you ever wanted a toy that would help you start a new day? Well, I have always wanted a well-made decent espresso machine. My Delonghi exceeds my expectation wonderfully. This is the first I've owned (I do have a stovetop espresso kettle)but , OH MY! What a machine. Now, honestly there's a learning curve for using this machine because it can do just about anything except the dishes. Any possible espresso drink you would desire this machine does. It even dispenses hot water for tea, instant soups and the like. The guide is helpful as is Delonghi's How-To Youtube Channel which guided me through all of the many functions of this machine. Fair warning this machine will feed your (and my) caffeine addiction. Actually I drink less (so-called) normal coffee as a result. One cup of cappuccino and I'm all set for the morning. Set-up isn't difficult (The guide and instructions included walk you through the procedures to guide you to make that first cup of espresso and cleaning. This machine has a hot water spout that I needed to put on it (It's not shown in this picture because the milk reservoir is sitting there)for any hot water needs. I recommend that you use a two cup glass measuring cup because this machine cleans after each use (just before shutting it off)and the you'll be prompted to clean the milk spout for each use (if you use it). The machine while the reservoir holds 60 ounces of water it uses a lot for cleaning (fair warning) The reservoir is easy to fill. There's a large reservoir for water (60 oz) (Delonghi included a water filter), and a measuring spoon for ground espresso. Yes, it does that also. The drip tray unit hides the well in back (it slides out)that needs to be emptied once in a while (used espresso grounds go here) and there's a brew unit behind the water reservoir that can be removed and cleaned. The first thing for setup is test your water for it's hardness with the included test strip. The top hides the well for the gravity fed coffee mill for whole beans (you'll need to move them towards the middle once in a while so it will feed properly. The espresso spouts are adjustable as is the milk frother tube. Two cups of espresso can be made at the same time. The closer to the cups results in a creamier espresso. As far as I've seen maybe two cons or warning. This machine uses a lot of water and clean the milk reservoir insert often. Everything else is a pro and a delight to use. And it's easier to clean than other machine. Delonghi even a small bottle of descaler to use. You'll be prompted by the machine when to do that, about every two months according to the manual. But no other chemicals needed and this machine is a joy to use. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I absolutely love this! It makes perfect cups of cappuccino and espresso every time! I love how this one machine can create so many coffeehouse style beverages in the comfort of my own home. It can brew from coffee beans or grounds customized perfectly just the way I like it! It creates creamy and long lasting foam taking the coffee drinking experience to the next level! I usually can never drink a whole cup of warm coffee without having to reheat multiple times. This machine keeps my coffee warm for me! You must experience everything this cappuccino and espresso machine can do! If you don't your really missing out! I will never go back to any regular coffee machine again! This is a life changer! I never knew what I have been missing until now! I love going to get a latte every once in a while at a coffee shop and I don’t think I will ever have to again thanks to this great machine. Does drip coffee, espresso, latte and more! Easy to use once you get the hang of it and boy it’s a life changer. I have become addicted with making lattes every morning. Easy buttons and easy instruction booklet. Pretty much already put together right out of the box. Comes with the machine, scooper for the coffee or beans, descaler product for the machine and water spout for hot water. This machine primes up pretty fast and makes a latte in less than 2 minutes. I can’t wait to find out all the other things I can make with this fancy machine. Best espresso machine I have ever used and yet so easy to figure out! This machine is great for making not one but two cups of coffee, cappuccino, macchiato, or a long. For certain drinks you need to attach the included milk carafe or you can use it without for a hot water spout. This machine grinds fresh beans to make each cup to the strength of your choosing with multiple adjustments that can be made to make your perfect cup. After each cycle is complete this machine purged the lines/ cleans the system out. One tip I have it to make sure you remove the cup you want to drink and replace with an empty one to prevent getting the cleaning cycle into your cup of coffee. The machine comes with a scraper and brush to remove all coffee grounds at the base of the machine as well as an included cup warmer at the top of the machine. Myfamily and I enjoy this machine and recommend it to anyone who enjoys a strong fresh brewed cup of coffee or whatever is your caffeinated hot beverage of choice the machine offers. If you enjoy espresso treat yourself and get this DeLonghi Magnifica S machine and create espresso masterpieces with a push of a button! When you first open the box, it’s a bit intimidating BUT the instructions from DeLonghi are so clear and the machine is so well made I was feeling like a barista in minutes. Take the time to read it over and it really breaks it all down in a simple way. You can make espressos, coffee, cappuccinos, and lattes. You pour the beans into the hopper and it freshly grinds them when you make your selection. There is also a spot to put ground coffee if you prefer that. You fill the canister with water and you fill the milk container with milk if you are brewing a cappuccino or latte. You make your selection on the dial of what kind of drink you want and it gets to work. The machine itself is very sleek looking and fairly small considering all it can do. I am proud to show it off and offer every guest that walks in my door if they want a coffee! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I love this machine it's so easy to use and it makes all my favorite coffee house drinks right at home. I can use it to make regular coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, espressos, and it dispenses hot water if I want to make tea or hot cocoa. Its so easy to use and easy to clean. This machine will automatically clean itself with hot water and a blast of air after each use so it stays clean. There's a tray inside the machine that stores the spent coffee grinds so its easy for you to pull out the tray and dump the used grinds into the trash. The milk carafe also has a clean setting you can use after each use to keep the nozzle clean and ready for the next use. The milk carafe is also removable so I can store it in my fridge between uses. This is really handy because I'm not having to waste milk if I fill the carafe too full and don't end of using it all. There's a built in grinder so I can use whole beans or ground coffee in the machine. There's also a nice coffee strength selector so I can make my coffee weaker than I make my husband's that likes a stronger cup. Along with that there's the 2x feature so I can brew 2 cups of coffee at a time which is a big time saver when we're in a hurry in the mornings. The water tank is really large for a machine so compact in size which is great because I don't have to fill it very often. The milk carafe is also a generous size so I'm not filling it back up all the time. This machine is able to handle my travel mug as well because the nozzle where the coffee comes out can be moved up and down to accommodate for most sized cups. One of my favorite features is the cup warmer on the top of the machine. I can place my cup on the warmer and it'll stay warm while I'm getting ready in the morning. Since I got this machine I have been doing so much research and learning how to make so many new coffee drinks. I've even gotten a few non coffee lovers in my family to love drinking cappuccinos and lattes. Our favorites have to be mocha, caramel, white chocolate mocha, vanilla caramel, and pumpkin spice lattes, and cappuccinos. My husband has his own favorite espresso beans he uses for making his favorite drinks as well. The control panel and digital display is easy to read and operate making it quick and easy to select my drink and brew it in no time. I've never owned a machine like this before and now I can't imagine not having it. We love it! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This is the best super automatic coffee machine I have ever used. It's easy, efficient, intuitive, and user-friendly. The control touch pad makes sense. It's quick, it's relatively quiet, and the self-cleaning features are excellent. The drip tray is super easy to take apart to clean. The water tank is surprisingly large and easy to maneuver in and out of the machine. The coffee is nice and hot. In my opinion, this coffee maker is the best I've ever owned and I would highly recommend it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

although i do love my machine its not as great as i was hoping for. I wish the water could be connected to a water line rather than a canister. It works better with coffee beans than grounded. It waste a lot of water for cleaning wish i didn't have to refill canister. COffee is great and easy to make .

THIS IS A GREAT MACHINE BUT YOU REALLY SHOULD KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING BEFORE YOU USE IT THE DRINKS ARE HOT IF YOU TAKE MILK FROM THE FRIDGE AND GET IT TO ROOM TEMP. BEFORE USING LOVE THE FACT OF MAKING COFFEE WITH A SHOT OF ESPRESSO BY USING GROUND INSTEAD OF BEANS.

It would only stay on for 30 min!!? Wow first day we used this at a family function, had to restart it 3 times because someone went 31min between cups. Called delonghi and they said this certain machine could not reprogram. It’s set at 30 min. If you want a delonghi (we love the brand) don’t buy this xs line. Poor concept!!

Much more convenient than my old Jura - love the automatic milk frothing!!! Great cappuccinos and macchiatos! Let's hope it will last more than the 4 years Jura did. I'll update this review if anything changes, but for now I'm a happy camper! Update September 2020: still super happy with it, doing 6-7 coffees every day.

I've had my Magnifica S for 5 years, and it already broke 2 times. 1x the motor was replaced, and now the milk frother doesn't work. Customer service is zero to none. They just provide info for a repair center, which include shipping, repair estimate for a pricey repair or a high price for the estimate. 2 Expensive repairs in 5 years on a $1200 coffee maker is not worth it!

I bought this machine against my better judgement, after the ESAM3300 machine I had just bought, didn't work. Couldn't return it because I am on a ship and as Bosun, I basically never get time to go ashore, let alone find a post office in a strange port. So I debated getting another one, or a Gaggia Brera. Instead, I opted for more bells and whistles in a higher class DeLonghi. I had never tried a superauto that used a milk tank instead of a frothing wand, so I pulled the trigger on this one partly out of curiosity. It didn't work, either! You ever hear a sailor cursing a machine in four languages? The paint was blistering on the bulkheads! I disassembled both machines looking for the problem and considered all the common denominators that might make both machines malfunction. Keep in mind, this is on a ship. Water? No. Using bottled water with fairly low mineral content. Beans? No. Same Eight OClock Columbian that I have used for years in several other Delonghi superautos. Transformer? Bingo. 220v ship. I examined the transformer carefully and I did not carry a meter with me when I joined this ship, but the transformer was clearly labeled 100VAC output on the bottom. These machines expect to see between 110VAC and 125VAC and will NOT function with less, apparently. The ESAM machine I could get to work, sort of, if I put the grinder on coarsest setting and pulled my shots FIRST, then steamed the milk and poured the shots into my mug. This ECAM machine would not do anything at all except spit out a tablespoon of foam. No espresso. So I searched the ship for a 2kw transformer that put out an honest 110VAC or better, and found one. Well, sorta stole it. Now both machines work fine. It is nice to wake up at 0430 (my workday begins at 0530) press one button for "ON", insert the milk tank, and press another button for "Brew" and go answer nature's call and get dressed, while the machine makes me a rather nice cappuccino with zero intervention on my part. Grab my mug, check my email, and savor a decent coffee. Thats a good start to a day, yeah. WHAT'S GOOD: Spout is high enough for most mugs. Most superautos don't have clearance for anything much over 4" tall, a very very inconvenient and short sighted omission. Very compact. Small footprint, though it really should have some feet on it to raise it a half inch or so above the desk or counter. I am kind of liking the milk tank thing, not having to manually froth milk. WHAT'S BAD Can't adjust the amount of foam or steamed milk. I like a LOT of milk/foam, and then I like to add a couple additional shots. Can't do that with this machine. There is a "2x" button but to me the 2x is just sort of plain, normal, lightweight size. Sort of a little girly coffee. There should be a 3x and a 4x setting for us hardcore caffeine tweakers. There should also be a frothing wand that plugs in to the milk tank port, for manual frothing when desired. Grinder is a little louder than the ESAM machine. There is very little customization. No direct water setting, no temp setting, only three coffee amount settings, and so on. Grinder has good adjustability but that's it. VALUE For the money, this is a pretty good machine for someone with very little time or patience in the morning who just wants his cappuccino all but handed to him on the way out the door. This is not so great for an ultra picky connoisseur coffee geek but for the rest of us it beats Tarmucks, hands down. If you just want your friggin coffee in the morning without going through the Tarmucks or Peets drive thru, it's a definite "BUY". Okay, gave it the review I thought it should have. Waiting for the other shoe to drop, now, but I have DeLonghi machines on my boat, at my GF house, and now two on my ship, and have owned a couple others that I had to leave behind, and so far, no problems except with the recent electricity issue. I have no experience with the popular Gaggia machines but compared to a broken down Jura I recently placed back into service on another ship, it is pretty trouble free.

The more I use it, the less I like it. The coffee is watered down and bitter. It does not make efficient use of the coffee grounds; for the amount of grounds it uses to make one cup, I can brew three cups in my drip coffee maker and wind up with richer, better tasting coffee that isn't bitter. The coffee it makes looks like muddy water regardless of the strength setting I use. This is also true when I use the pre-ground coffee option. Every time I turn it on or off, it pours a few ounces of hot water out the spout. This means I need to always have an empty cup under the machine when I turn it on or off. If I power off right after brewing a cup of coffee, the coffee I just made will get watered down. This also means I need to fill the water jug more often. The latte and cappuccino are convenient, but are way too milkey; it would be nice if we could adjust the proportions of milk to coffee since either latte or cappuccino both taste like lightly flavored milk. Another commenter suggested making a single cup of cappuccino or latte then adding additional shots of espresso; this is a hack, not a fix but I've already purchased the machine. I had a previous version of a Delonghi Espresso & Cappuccino that I liked; this one was disappointing.

Pros... sleek design, relatively small footprint, makes good coffee Cons... a big water waster, no way to adjust auto off (30 min)... each time turns off as well as on... it goes thru rinse cycle ... pretty silly not able to adjust ... also if u like milk drinks .... it steams milk more than makes lots of froth Overall ok ... but since I drink coffee at different times thru the day ... the 30 min auto off is a no-go for me...will likely look for a bargain on another machine

had this machine for 2 years now. Average 4 coffees a day. Never jams. I read reviews about the machine jamming. From experience, if you use crap beans (Starbucks) that are oily this machine will not work. This is an itialian work of art so us itialian beans. Lavazza and illy are not oily even using the dark roast. If the beans you are using leaves residue on a paper towel then dont use them, it will jam!

This expensive machine did not make it one week! A warning on the display panel says to "insert infuser". The infuser has never been removed from the machine, and good luck trying to get it out. Now the infuser is stuck and will not return to the "home" position. We had a De'Longhi machine in Germany for five years, and it never gave us any trouble. It earned its keep and produced coffee day in and day out, for five years. This machine made 6 cups of coffee and never made it to the following weekend! Oh, and good luck getting any help from De'Longhi customer service. My wife talked to them once, they asked for the invoice, and we have never heard from them again. We are giving them one more chance before we return this countertop brick and go with another brand.

This thing is amazing, it has integrated dna sequencer produces fully aged and experienced coffee tasting hipsters, which in turn refeeds to dna sequencer to determine best genome of coffee, before growing harvesting roasting and grinding autonomously. It also creates a micro universe and has many species fight battles before they develop coffee technology, and the coffee grinder looks into that universe to determine the ideal traits of coffee worth dying for.

I thought the machine was awful for this price. I played around with the settings as much as I could but I couldn't get a decent cup of coffee out of it. Also I hated how you can't control how much milk it dispenses. My uncle in Europe has a Delonghi, not sure which model (but he paid less), and he says he can control how much milk the machine dispenses. It wouldn't be that much of a deal for me if the coffee was good but so I had to return it due to these 2 issues and went with "Breville BES870CBXL". I prefer it much more than the this fully automatic machine.

Well, I really liked this product for its appealing look. I chose to ignore the few reviews that said the machine jammed sporadically. Turns out it jams more frequently than not. In fact, I spend more time with half a cappuccino with only frothed milk with no coffee in it. In general, I could use the brush provided to unblock any jam. Eventually (after just two weeks of use), the machine became permanently jammed and no longer functioned. Period... For $750, I should not have to unjam coffee beans every other use, and the grinder should not get permanently jammed to the point that I can no longer use the machine. I will be returning immediately, and De'Longhi will no longer be a product I use or recommend. This product would be better priced at $75.

Setup was easy and quick with clear instructions. It came with a water filter and water hardness test. This model (23.260sb) does have an extractable brew unit for easy cleaning. The machine warms up very fast (less than 5 min) and cleans the milk spout after each milk based drink and the coffee spouts when you power off the machine. The milk container has only one option for the froth, not 3 as pictured here and on the DeLonghi website for this model. This was a bit dissapointing, but not a big deal to us. We like that we can purchase an extra milk container from DeLonghi, as one of us drinks cow milk and the other almond milk. The picture I attached is of a double almond milk cappuccino (double milk because I messed up the program). All drinks are pre-programmed for the amount of coffee and milk dispenced. There are 3 options for coffee strength and a 2X option to double the volume of the drink. Further customization is possible but manually and can not be saved as a custom drink program. If you look for that model number on YouTube you can watch a thorough demo of the machine by Seattle coffee gear and instructional videos by DeLonghi. We used it for a day only and with ground coffee so far and we are happy! If we experience problems with beans or other machine problems I'll update the review. For the beans, only non-oily (matte looking) beans are recommended for any fully automated machine. Overall this is a good fully automated machine without breaking the budget. WARRANTY is honored by DeLonghi if the machine is sold and shipped by Amazon (authorized dealer). Third party sellers on Amazon and Amazon Wearhouse are not authorized dealers and warranty will not be honored (see my chat screenshot with DeLonghi).

Perfection! We couldn’t be happier with the quality of espresso and froth this machine produces: Lavazza Super Crema dialed-in to grinder setting #4. The espresso is on the hot side, and the froth is long lasting (2% milk). I have NOT had a single issue with the bean hopper. That said, Super Crema beans are rather small. The pucks are perfectly shaped and textured, every time. I would recommend using a Zero Water filter (distilled result), and then adding potassium bicarbonate back into the water. You will never have to descale, and the coffee notes will be delightful ( Dr. Robert R. Pavlis Potassium recipe). There has been a lot of discussion on this subject. It truly is the best of both worlds. I will update if anything changes.

I had another Delonghi where I had to steam the milk and so I like the auto milk steamer. My problem is that it is not very hot coffee. I took the temperature in the cup and it just barely gets to about 125 degrees and I like my coffee at 160. I will be returning this for an upgraded model that lets me adjust the temperature.

If you are willing to fuss with it. Pros: Makes a great cup of coffee, makes great coffee drinks. Cons: The bean hopper requires constant fussing, you need to fuss with the beans with every brew or you will get random results, if not you will get a very weak brew. Overall this is a "Okay" machine, I am keeping it as you actually can get a perfect brew out of it.

This is my second DeLonghi. We had the DeLonghi Magnifica for 10 years and it was awesome. It died and we replaced it with this severe disappointment. To be specific there are two fatal flaws. First, the hopper-grinder is always hanging up such that the beans stop feeding properly. It seems to be better with more oily beans, but NEVER happened with our last machine. Much worse is the coffee is bitter, compared to our old DeLonghi and our friends Saeco, when using the same coffee beans. We guessed that the temperature was too high and it is scalding the beans. To support this hypothesis we started using ice water in the tank and this seemed to eliminate the problem. We presumed that there must be some way to turn down the temp, but NO. All we were told is to add cold water......at $1200, thanks for the advice. I will be buying a Saeco!

I bought the machine from another reseller. Before I received the actual unit this appears to be a great combination of functions I expect from an superautomatic with great online reviews from both customers and experts. But just in a few days with the machine I feel quite disappointed. First of all, I am not able to get good coffee from the machine. I tried many options: espresso, long coffee, cappuccino and latte macchiato. The coffee tasted very blatant if not watery. I see only half as much as crema from this machine compared with a much cheaper DeLonghi unit. At first I thought this might be due to incompatible combination of setting but since the machine is called "smart", this means you cannot customize too much. There is no way to adjust the water temperature. You can use "2X" to make extraction longer, but it just add water. Or you can select more coffee per shot but it only has 3 settings and only 1 on the plus side. Alternatively you can brew twice, which is what I eventually tried but when I inspected the used grounds in the drop pan I see them loosely packed and also watery and doesn't seem to have full extraction. So basically I'm wasting more coffee in order to get good flavor. Then I start to play with grind settings and things become worse. First sometimes beans would not drop to the grinder and I also tried a separate grinder to grind at fine setting and they actually stuck in the bypass doser. The machine shows ready but when pressed "brew" button nothing come out and unused coffee grounds go to the drop pan. After a few unsatisfactory tries I turned off the machine to check internals. The brew unit is detachable, which is good. However it uses a semi-open design and you can see lubricants and coffee grounds could fall from either the grinder or bypass doser directly onto movable parts. Within days of use I could already see specks of fine coffee grounds on lubricants and some internal walls. There are also design issues elsewhere: the milk carafe need to be pulled out and plugged in each time so it would wear over the time. Same for the water tank, which is convenient to be on the front, but also means it need to be pulled out and plugged in constantly for refill. And the machine use a lot of water for each run: it rinse both when turned on and turned off, and after milk use. Also my unit seems to have quality issue and the clickable power switch at the back won't stay in the 'ON' position easily and I can only make it working every 20 tries. Definitely not the quality you would expect from a sub one grand machine. The only excellent thing of the machine is how easy now to make milk drinks and how smooth the foam milk looks and tastes. Overall it leaves many places to be further addressed, improved or desired for a machine at this price level.

I bought this machine to replace a Saecco espresso machine that I bought about 12 years ago. The set up was simple. The machine doesn't take up too much space and is nice looking. Unfortunately, after making the first cup of espresso, the machine grinder didn't function correctly and the coffee would not complete the cycle. I kept getting an error message to add more beans. So I filled the retainer full of newly bought espresso beans and again the same message. It would work if you moved the beans around with your hand so maybe there was something stuck. The coffee that it did make I would rate as mediocre as far as a home made espresso is. I was able to make the milk frother once, and it made a watery cappuccino. Perhaps I got a lemon, but decided to return it to Amazon. Luckily no hassel doing that.

I was lucky enough to find this item open box on amazon for about 800$ , and let me tell you, we (3 people that use it daily) love this machine! It makes a fantastic espresso and latte, we honestly don't know how we use non automatic all those years but I already know we never will again. its been super reliable, and I follow the maintenance on it , to the letter. It likes to clean itself a lot, which is good, but it will use a lot of water so be aware of that. its best to use this machine with Filtered water, like from a pitcher or a faucet filter. If you do so you don't need to use the optional filter they have listed. Also DO NOT skip the water hardness test that comes with it because its important to set the rescaling setting on this system. also your espresso will taste better with clean filtered water.

We had initially ordered a Nespresso Vertuoline coffee maker, but after really considering the cost of using it several times a day for a year long, it was as expensive as a much better quality coffee maker would be. I researched a lot of different automatic espresso makers and finally decided to give this one a try. We are so so happy with it! It makes amazing coffee and so easy to use. This was perfect for my husband and I, since he likes to just have regular coffee but I prefer lattes, but now he will even make himself a cappuccino here and there. Definitely the best purchase we could have made for a not super expensive automatic espresso maker.

Th coffee is delicious but I would never buy this again. The bean dispenser doesn't have a steep enough angle to get the beans to grind consistently so you must supervise it to make sure that the coffee actually grinds. Even when I switched to drier beans this happened. Also have a Gran Dama and it is much batter.

We replaced our old larger Delonghi with this one. It's more compact and does a much better job frothing milk and the taste of the coffee coming out of this unit is indescribable. It's a better more modern design with the water tank on the side so you can see when the level is getting low. It also does a better job of cleaning the milk wand after dispensing which should make it last longer. The steam unit went out on our old one a while ago and we steamed our milk separately as the coffee part of the machine continued to work properly. Were it not for the fact that you cannot steam milk (like for hot chocolate) unless you are requesting a Capuccino, I would rate this machine 5 stars. Still worth the great price we got on this unit over the holidays and during the Cyberweek sales.

I bought this product about a year ago and it has proven itself to be absolutely fantastic. At first I had some issues with beans getting stuck before reaching the grinder. This was easily solved by unscrewing a little stopper that sits above the opening of the grinding unit. Also, it is essential that you buy a quality roast which is not oily. Oily beans tend to stick ti the sides of the funnel and thus never reach the opening. I personally love the Herkimer roasts and they work perfectly with this machine (smaller beans, non oily). Given the price point I was skeptical about this machine, but it turned out to be an absolutely fantastic acquisition.

Really do like this machine. Has got some quirks, but I can handle them. My findings: 1st quirk is how much water it uses for cleaning - cleans coffee spout both on turn-on and turn-off - wasting lots of water in a drought, and making a harder decision to make 1 quick cup of coffee. But it is automatic, that I like - but you have to remember to replace a catch bowl - which is also a quirk - catch basin is too small and I find I need to use a glass measuring cup for catching rinse water. 2nd, Milk jug is removable and must be stored in refrigerator - not a big deal but takes up extra space with the spout that has to stay on in order to have the milk jug covered in the refrigerator - wish there was a separate top for storage. 3rd, Milk jug also has a plastic straw inserted into the milk - impossible to clean and I've found it can get smelly after I left it out a few times accidentally. This makes the whole milk container smelly, and I end up dumping and washing the container - a waste of milk, so therefore we keep the milk level small enough to just cover a day's worth of coffee. 4th,There doesn't seem to be any way of manually cleaning the motorized milk steamer, you have to rely on the "milk clean" function, which it tells you to do after each cup (uses more water). I've recently found that you don't really have to do the "milk clean" after every cup if you're doing back to back cups, but you have to remember to do it after your last one. Also this "milk clean" function is a manual one, it doesn't automatically do it upon turn-off. 5th, the De'Longhi machine can grind very fine beans, but it can't make coffee with it. I ground the beans really fine, then tried brewing - milk foam was fine, coffee dripped out over 5 minutes as the machine chugged along, not even sure I got a full shot. Turning the grind level down, coffee comes out in a stream again. But begs the question, "can I even get creamy espresso shots with this machine?". 6th, this is not a real quiet machine. Grinding is noisy, water pumping is noisy - but coffee is great enough for me to be happy. 7th, a statement - water jug needs refilling every 6 cups or so, grounds collector needs to be emptied about every 8 cups (and then washed, mold builds up in bottom grounds every time). 8th, I like that I can interchange pre-ground beans, but I can only do this 1 cup at a time - wish it could hold more. One of the reasons we bought this machine is so that my coffee area stayed cleaner -we had a single manual espresso machine before, and always a grounds mess after we filled it. Having to add the pre-ground beans 1 cup at a time doesn't solve this at all. 9th, This machine makes a very good cup of coffee! I am not what I'd consider a coffee connoisseur at all, just someone used to getting SB's that is trying to wean off of buying all the time, and instead making it at home. I've found that adding in flavorings, or chocolate afterward brewing with the De'Longhi is an excellent replacement to the chain.

This has changed our life! We no longer stop at the chains as we have quality coffee at home (we buy their beans and make it here!). For a mocha we add chocolate milk (good quality) to the frother and LOVE this "hack". We have mocha's everyday and a few at that! It also makes great coffee with the rich crema on top! My parents bought one for each of their homes, and then gifted them to my brother and I for each of our homes- we both can't recommend the purchase enough (while expensive, we figure it will pay for itself quickly- as we were spending $10 day on coffee's out at the chains).

We were new to Fully auto machines. In going online to look and to a store that carried this machine we decided to get it for all the basic functions and liked the way the milk is attached. The espresso in the machines tend to be not hot. They are lukewarm. You cannot adjust it. The milk based drinks are fine and taste really good. Multiple problems with the machine ensued first day. Calling customer service it was clear they don't even know their own product. The head of customer service Robyn Kaszas called me the next day. She sits two notches below the President since her boss reports to him. I suggested she go buy a bag of Starbucks espresso (since that's what the machine is for) and see if it jams. First she says that's a great idea she will bring it up in the next meeting, then she's too busy and finally refuses to even do it. People does that sound like the kind of response a company would make if they wanted to fix an issue they were unaware of? Their office is literally a mile and half away from a Starbucks. You would want to know that you machine jams every time you use beans from the best known company in coffee in the world. Pssst.--They know...They just deny it and say they will have a technician check it out. No integrity what so ever. She will flat out lie to you and then say, "You're badgering me" for asking factual questions on how to resolve the issues. That's what she said. Their intention is clear-Sell an expensive machine with a big margin and if you have a problem lie about it and hope you don't return it. That's the thing, there is no mention of the issue in any book or info they provide prior to purchase about oily beans. Go look on their website or any other retailers for that matter. This is an issue for all auto machines. There were several manufacturers who readily admitted the issue. Not Robyn though. No oily bean measuring device exist nor does De'Longhi make any meaningful attempt to give you info. on what beans might fit your flavor profile. Different people have different tastes. Their solution-Buy pre ground coffee. The beans they did suggest are mass produced, bitter and stale since they sit on a counter forever. This is what happens when they hire people, put them on the phone who know nothing about espresso, lattes and alike. They could be answering the phone about problems with toasters too, which is probably the case. For a $1300 machine I want service. Below is a link to the BBB website. They got an F. Robyn's name is on it. If you check Google you'll see other websites all with the same complaints I've made here. For a product like this that you're spending substantial money on you need service. My recommendation after exhaustive research-Miele was only one that offer real customer service. They also offer long warranty and extended one's. On a product like this a lot can go wrong. It doesn't have the milk connected the same way that we really want however it's a small price to pay for knowing when I have questions or a problem ensues on a investment like this-I know I'll get service instead of figuring a way to pry more money out of my pocket to fix it. In our experience and many others De'Longhi is a company that knows they are putting out products that they will never support and are very deceptive about it. [...]

My first Amazon review... Hope it helps you. Love this coffee machine! It was hard for me to part with over $1000 for a coffee machine but I'm glad I did. The coffee it produces is way better than the coffee chains. Press a button and boom, coffee, expresso, latte, etc. It's a super simple, coffee maker that produces an awesome product. It's expensive but compared to the competition it's cheap.

First let me say I did not purchase this from Amazon, I had it in my shopping cart ready to purchase but found it at a better price elsewhere. Over the years I have purchased many expresso machines - i love my expresso and i love cuban coffee so an expresso machine to me is a necessity. over the years I have owned Nespresso machines, the DeLonghi Dedica EC680 15-Bar Pump Espresso & Cappuccino Machine, a Milli, a Bosch and numerous others. And over the years I have spent a small fortune on these not so great expresso machines. I finally took the plunge and purchased this model and I have know regrets. Was the price point astronomical? you bet it was, but I figured if this is the last expresso machine I ever have to buy I will be way ahead of the game. The best part about this machine is that not only does it make the best expresso I have ever tasted (of course having the right beans helps) the machine is completely idiot proof. You push a button and thats it. The machine grinds the correct amount, tamps it in and out it comes. Love my mornings with my new expresso machine

A great machine! I owned a Saecco prior to this purchase. The DeLonghi is in a class of its own. Took awhile to utilize all the features but when I did, couldn't stop making expresso's or capaccino's! Well engineered. I'd buy it again!

We have had this unit since April 2014 and just took it to the shop for the 4th time. Wait for service center is 2 weeks just to diagnose, it's going to be a month before we get it back. But it is the 4th time in 18 months. Yes it is covered under warrantee, but it has been in the shop for four of those months.

I'm not an espresso drinker. I'm not a cappuccino drinker. I'm not even a coffee drinker. But my dad drinks all 3. So when he asked if he could move in with us and this opportunity came along, I took a chance. It was well worth it. My observations: This machine is sturdy, looks GOEGEOUS on my counter (although its kinda big for my kitchen), and is easy to wipe down. You simply take a wet cloth and wipe down all you can see (and can't see behind the machine) (in addition to cleaning the inside every so often). I was concerned about milk spoiling. Not to worry, you simply remove the milk carafe/container and place it in the fridge. Also, it doesn't need to be full to make the frothy part, so if you don't use the machine too often, you won't waste milk by trying to keep the container full. My dad's observations: He used to own restaurants and he said his last machine cost about $13k. This doesn't come close to that cost (although it's still expensive in my opinion). He said it's a solid value for the price point, and that it has a great presentation for your home kitchen. He said depending upon if you're familiar with how to use such a machine, that the results are pretty comparable to what you'd get in a restaurant whose main business is NOT coffee. But if you're used to multiple options from a real coffee house, this will not compare. You will have to set up and prime the machine before you start, so this is not INSTANT coffee, but once you get used to it, you'll feel like a pro and your visitors will think you're one too. He said there are more options than he ever used on his restaurant machine, but the employees may have used more than he did. But if you have the time and inclination (and follow the detailed instructions) you can get an after dinner drink that's highly enjoyable, and truly customizable. It can be overwhelming at first, especially if this is your first introduction, since the company that sold him the machine for his restaurant provided detailed training. If you're not used to this type of machine OR if it's not something you'll use frequently (at least several times each week), it's probably not a good choice, and you should find something at a lower price point; there's no point in having a fancy, but costly, machine that you won't take the time to learn to use.

The Magnifica Smart Espresso & Cappuccino Maker is a feature-packed product that brings all the goodness of your favorite coffee shop right into your home. Plus the 60-ounce water take makes it great for entertaining! I love that it's got two chambers--one for beans and one for pre-ground coffee. That makes things so very convenient. The frothing works great--makes me really enjoy my drink! I also like that the container for the milk is easily removable, allowing it to be refrigerated during times it's not being used. Plus the machine has an option to rinse it with the press of a button. I really like the 'double shot' feature, which allows me to make a full-sized drink. DEFINITELY read the instructions. This isn't really a plug-and-go kind of thing.

I'm a novice coffee drinker and definitely not a barista. So, unpacking this thing was a bit overwhelming. Lot of lights, attachments, and instructions. So far the things I've learned is: 1) Get a linen towel to use for only this machine for cleaning. 2) Each time it is used, you must clean out the milk nozzle. 3) It has a self cleaning setting, but still needs a bit more babying. 4) Don't use pre flavored coffee grounds. Use regular beans or grounds. UPDATE: So this thing makes amazing coffee. It's top of the line and equal to the machines used at Starbucks. The only the negative I could come up with is 1) the spouts should have been made a little bit longer and 2) a stainless steel pitcher for the expressed liquid should have been included for easier handling and preparing. I actually had to take the machine to a friend to ask for help in learning to use this machine....

Easy to use, even for a beginner I need to make it clear that I’m no barista, just an inveterate coffee drinker. And, in the morning, I’m never ready to roll out of bed and drive to S’bux or anywhere else for that matter. To have my own machine to make coffee, cappuccino, espresso, or a latte—and at the touch of a finger, no less, is a pretty magical gift from the coffee gods. The directions in the Quick Start guide (the color guide) are pretty straightforward, but they weren’t useful to me until I read the more detailed black-and-white instruction manual. This model comes with a water softener filter, which you install in a few-step process. There’s a water strip to check the hardness of your water, so that you can set the dial from 1 to 4, depending on the results. Easy as a pregnancy test. The set-up also requires an initial priming, which is done by filling the water tank, setting in the filter, and continuing with the touch of a button. Every time you turn on and shut off the machine thereafter, a rinse is done automatically. After that set-up, I could pour my espresso beans on top. There is also a place to use pre-ground coffee, but I don’t see the point—you can only use one scoop (cup) at a time, and the clean-up of the grounds, to me, isn’t worth it. Just buy whole beans--any kind, as long as they aren’t flavored (which would ruin the machine quickly). I used espresso beans from my local coffee-lovers market. So, the manual states that it takes 4 or 5 cups after the initial set-up for the coffee to start tasting good. There’s also a dial on the inside top to change the grind if it either is 1) only dripping coffee a few drops at a time or 2) the crema (full-bodied) taste isn’t happening. The dial is defaulted to 7 (which is working fine for me). You can change it one click at a time, if necessary—but ONLY while the coffee beans are being ground. I started with tasting the very first cup, which wasn’t very warm, and as expected, was pretty thin and watery. Each successive cup was a little better. After about 5 cups, I had a well-balanced, tasty cup of espresso. Now, every morning I have a perfect cup. The manual also suggests priming the machine before each use with a hot water cycle (the button is easy to find and use) in order to ensure hot coffee. And, the top of the machine is also a warmer, which doesn’t take long to heat up. The espresso comes out of two separate but equal spouts, and you can pull them lower if you need to in order to aim closer. This all makes perfect sense, even to a novice like myself, once you go through the manual. So, now I was ready to test for cappuccino and latte, my particular favorites. I just love the combination of milk and espresso together in one cup. So, I removed the hot water spout and, after filling the milk jug with skim milk (skim milk makes the best/most froth, but you can use what you want, including soy), I placed it as instructed and was ready to go. Delicious. The milk makes a flawless froth—the colder the milk, the fluffier the froth. As far as clean-up, you must be judicious with the care and cleaning of this machine, if you want it to last. I wash the milk jug and spout daily, which is easy—warm water cleans it, and this is the one part of the machine that is dishwasher safe. I remove the pucks from the bottom tray, as well as any excess water. There are a few other parts to clean monthly, so I set a coffee calendar to remind me. The filter is good for two months, and as far as descaling, an icon will let me know when that needs to be done. All in all, this was way less daunting than I thought it was going to be, and the coffee, to me, tastes as good as the major coffee chain coffees. If I could change one thing, I would like to make it easy to switch from regular to decaf, so that at night I could drink the unleaded lattes. But, there is a chute that absorbs the beans, and you can’t switch beans until you use up what is there. The thing is, I’m so enjoying these cappuccinos and lattes that I find myself getting pretty wired at night, drinking one after the other, searching for a late, late, late, LATE show…hey, is that a squirrel?

Frankly, this is pretty spectacular. It automatically grinds and presses the coffee beans to produce espresso. It will also steam and froth milk, and then add it to the espresso to create cappuccinos and lattes. While the setup and instructions are somewhat complex, the automaticity of the finished product makes that a pretty minor quibble. The espressos, cappuccinos, lattes, are all delicious and you can control the fine-ness of the grind and the strength of the brew to suit your tastes. My major suggestion for improvement is that the milk container could be marked to give some idea about how much milk is needed to create each drink. That way there would be less guesswork involved in the volume to add and less milk wasted. By the way, be certain to put a container under the spouts since it runs a cleaning cycle every time it starts and shuts down. And... if you leave it alone long enough, it will automatically shut down and spew cleaning water. The cleaning cycle for the milk container is also pretty simple, the same caveats apply - keep a container underneath. The only weak link in the cleaning setup is the tube that carries the milk. You'll need to remove it and rinse it each time, especially if you don't want milk lingering in there for any period of time.

This is great Espresso Machine, the whole thing is idiot proof; read your directions first and you will have zero issues and no frustrations! For this machine you can use either beans, or ground espresso, which is nice. Also espresso is fairly decent priced so your not going to go broke buying it either if your purchasing a national brand name. Secondly the frothing chamber will froth any dairy product, it got a workout at my house: we tried almond milk, whole milk, creamer, skim milk all frothed beautifully! The machine also features a pull out water chamber, so you can take it right to the sink. It also has an LCD screen the shows you which drink option you are selecting through the selection knob, and also will show you any errors; like water tank empty, or frothing tank not attached, etc.. The nice part of this machine is it cleanup! The coffee is dropped into a tray behind the drip tray, and the frothing dispenser tells you to clean it by changing it to the clean mode. I just want to make it clear your not going to get a big cup of coffee from this espresso machine, it is an espresso machine after all! The one down side would be the noise factor when it is starting up and shutting down! It is noisy and make no mistake you will know when it is getting ready to turn off!

I will change my review accordingly when I can figure out how to use this. So far it is a beautiful machine but it makes me feel stupid. Maybe it is easy to use. Maybe it is going to give us incredible coffee drinks (which sounds absolutely lovely) but for someone who has never used a high-priced coffee machine, I couldn't figure out how to get it working right. Part of this could be that my life is really stressful (so I think I need more coffee but probably I should lay off for a while) and my brain is functioning at an all time low. That being said if and when my college son gets this working I will change my views accordingly (though I think I ought to be able to figure it out - -not sure if the directions aren't written well, not sure of what ).

I'm going to make reference to the older DeLonghi Magnifica ESAM3300 during this review. I've had that machine for quite a few years, and it has served me well. I was fortunate enough to get this new version via Amazon Vine, so I feel I can compare the two in case anyone is looking to upgrade. First off, this one has a few more bells and whistles, e.g. the self-contained milk frother, rather than just the milk spout. This means it's super easy (and cleaner) to make frothy milky coffee drinks, which will definitely be a bonus for many potential customers, but also means one has a little less control over the process. The new Magnifica takes up almost the same footprint, but is perhaps a little slimmer and sleeker while being a tad deeper. It's also a bit quieter. Set up was easy, and it primed quickly and efficiently and I was ready to make coffee instantly. There is a water filter if you need it, and a handy paper strip to test your water hardness. There is a full instruction manual and a simple color easy-start guide which makes this machine very straightforward to operate. So first off, the pros: Well, the espresso shots from this machine are as good if not better than from the old one and produce a nice amount of crema once I got the grind a little finer and the pour a little slower. I'm gonna say this straight out: while this machine makes a decent, serviceable espresso drink, it's still no way as good as hand-pulling a shot yourself using a manual machine, nor as good as you'd get in a proper espresso bar, being aware, of course, that both those require good skills and training. It might not even be as good as the Nespresso machines out there, but it makes up for it in cost over time and flexibility, and it still beats out many coffee shop offerings for both cost and often taste, especially as you can buy beans from anywhere and use them in the machine. Best of all of course, this machine is simple to operate and extremely convenient, and I still drink a couple of shots before work rather than forking out $4+ a day at any of the chain coffee shops. As mentioned, the self-contained milk frother is a bonus, but I wish it would allow the ability to just heat and add milk without the froth -- but still, froth is easily dissipated with a quick stir. The way the machine can clean the milk nozzle after use is nice, too. Where the coffee beans go is now sealed -- yay! The old Magnifica had a flip lid, this new one is relatively airtight (though I still keep most of my beans in a BeanVac anyway). Some minor negatives (and not deal-breakers by any means): when I first switch it on and the machine does its little rinse cycle, the hot water pools on the grate whereas on the old Magnifica it would always shoot down the holes. This means I always need to wipe the tray/grate before I put my cup under. I guess the holes are either a little too small, or the nozzles are just not as precisely aimed (and yes, I have put the nozzles at low as they can go). Second negative is cleaning the main brewer. The old Magnifica let you pull out the brewing unit for clean-up from the front, this new one is behind a door at the side behind the water tank, so that has to be removed first. This is a minor hindrance because you only need to clean that out once a month or so, but it's still a little different. On the positive side, I'm seeing less dust and better puck disposal than in the old Magnifica which had a strangely-shaped tray that wouldn't always catch the pucks. Also -- see update below for more on this. The machine also auto-shuts off rather quickly. I guess this is good for energy savings, but I wish it stayed awake a bit longer. If you're using the milk frother, I recommend doing the clean cycle straight away as the machine switches off after a few minutes. Then again, if you try and use the milk frother with the dial in the "clean" position, it will prompt you to clean it anyway. I guess I got used to the old Magnifica staying on for a few hours at a time. I still think this is a good machine and a nice upgrade on my previous one. That one, with its analog dials really helped me dial-in the perfect set up for precise taste/strength/amount, while this one has fewer settings. However, it does such a good job straight out the box that I'm OK with the additional automation and the extra ability to create very nice cappuccino or latte drinks simply. I'll update this review if I discover anything else as I've only had the opportunity to use it for a few days so far. --- Updated July 30: OK, the water spilling from the nozzles onto the grate instead of down the little holes every time I switch this on is still happening. As no other reviews mention it, I don't know if it's just my machine, or something to do with my particular settings. Admittedly, it's a minor thing as all it takes is a paper towel to clean up (or by putting a cup under the spouts when switching on), I'm just surprised a $1,300 machine would do that and am interested to know if it happens to anyone else. In terms of beverage quality, I've dialed in what I consider my perfect grind level and strength, and this machine is consistently out-performing the previous model. Perhaps it has to do with water temperature or grind, perhaps it's just better tamping and sophisticated parts that do a better job, but it's definitely an improvement. Remember, this also has a lot to do with quality of coffee beans and type used. Perhaps the new hopper is keeping them airtight and fresher (I used to fill the old Magnifica with a minimal amount for freshness sake). Finally, re: cleaning. The infuser of this new Magnifica, despite being harder to get to, is actually way easier to clean. The old Magnifica needed grease and careful washing, this new one can be submerged and cleans up super-easily. Also, because it sits directly on top of the puck disposal tray, it's a breeze to keep the entire device clean, so now I do understand why it was placed where it was. The old Magnifica was full of nooks and crevices where ground coffee dust would gather and need cleaning, this new one is way more sensibly designed.

First of all, let me state that I received this machine for free so I could use it and review it. I am in no way affiliated with the company, so this is my honest review of the item. Secondly, note that this a review from the point of view of a barista- I have about 5 years of experience between working in a coffee shop in college, and again, most recently, during some weekends throughout the school year + during the summer (I am a full time teacher otherwise!). Finally, when I make lattes and cappuccinos at home, I use a Moka pot to brew espresso on the stove and an Aeroccino machine to froth milk. It's been a fine way to make my favorite drinks, but can take awhile and sometimes it would be nice to have something a bit more automatic (it's easy to burn espresso on the stove/with the Moka pot if you're not careful! I find it difficult to make consistently good coffee with it). My first impressions of the machine- it is very sleek, somewhat heavy (not a problem for me, but just an observation), not too big, and it was packaged well. The various compartments are intuitive to put back together if you take them apart, but you definitely need to read the instructions before using the machine for the first time. That part was a little obnoxious- the instructions are quite detailed and lengthy- and I'm the type of person who would rather have someone just SHOW me what to do. It would be nice if the company had the manual PLUS access to visual instructions, like a link to a YouTube video or a DVD of info that would come along with the machine.Needless to say, I figured it out and eventually had my machine running. Note that in the instructions, it does say that it takes 3-4 brews before the espresso tastes the best. Other things: - WATER HARDNESS: When you first set up the machine, it will have you do a hardness test on your water. The machine "knows" how often you need to descale it, based on your water hardness, and will notify you as needed (cleaning fluid comes with the machine). - WATER FILTER: I like that the machine also comes with a water filter (it says you should replace it about every 2 months, but if you do not use the machine often, you'll have to replace it after about 3 weeks). - ADDING COFFEE: I LOVE that you can either add whole beans to the machine, and it will grind them as needed (and yes, the grind can be adjusted if the machine tells you it's too fine), and you can also use pre-ground coffee. I have some espresso already ground for my Moka pot, and I'm excited to be able to use it in the machine. - COOL FEATURES: the machine has neat features like changing the brew strength of the espresso; there's a 2x feature to brew a double shot or increase the amount of milk in your drink; it has a "clean" feature for the froth wand and steams it clean, like a barista does with the big espresso machines; the top of the machine has a cup warmer; you can adjust the espresso nozzles to come down closer to the cup, which helps make the espresso creamier; and so much more. - CLEANING: I haven't had to do a full cleaning of my machine yet, but after I brewed a couple shots, it was simple to take out the bottom tray and rid of any water that it caught + clean out the espresso grounds. The milk container is dishwasher safe and can be washed as needed (and should be washed often, it suggests). Overall- it's an awesome machine that makes great coffee shop-quality drinks. The froth is great, the shots are delicious....the mechanization of the machine makes it so easy to use (once you get the hang of it). While a Moka pot and an Aeroccino (my old way of making fancy drinks) are definitely easier to clean/maintain than this machine, I do like the automation and consistency in the taste of the drinks. On the con side, the Moka and Aeroccino have fewer parts and are less likely to break (or are at least not too expensive to replace)- this machine has so many working parts that if it breaks, it might be hard to fix (it does have a warranty with it, of course). I find that with having experience as a barista, it was easier for me to understand how to work and clean the machine; if you are not as familiar with "fancy" coffee drinks, it might take you a bit longer to get the hang of it. But once you do, it will be smooth sailing! I can see this machine functioning in a home (if you can afford it....it *is* quite expensive), in an office, or even in a restaurant. I can see small restaurants using a machine like this to make some good espresso drinks. It wouldn't do well in a place with super high coffee demand- you would want a bigger machine for that for sure. But for personal use/small business use, it is quite perfect. I am pleased! My machine will definitely be used often!

This Espresso and Cappuccino coffee maker is very stylish, functions perfectly and yields a very strong cup of coffee even on the mild setting. It reminded me instantly of my six week trip to Italy in 1973 – and my first cup of espresso coffee. I was shocked how it had such a strong taste – still remember it vividly. It is important to read the instruction booklets that come with this coffee maker. There are two booklets. One is in beautifully done step by step instructions and the other is a multi-language booklet going into more detail and it has a troubleshooting guide and parts description. Between the two booklets, you’ll produce your first cup of coffee successfully. Whether you like the taste is a matter of personal preference. This review will focus more on the electrical and mechanical operation of the machine. After pre-cleaning the coffee maker, I filled the water reservoir and added an ample amount of coffee beans in the hopper at the top of the coffee maker. I bought a small one pound paper bag of Colombian coffee at the grocery store for just under $11. It takes several minutes for the coffee maker to warm up and become ready for operation, requiring some patience if you’re desperate for some coffee first thing in the morning. But finally you’ll be able to select one of the three coffee strengths for five sizes and types of coffee. The feature list claims there are 13 adjustable settings for whole beans, but I can’t find how to do it anywhere yet. I bought Folgers mild pre-ground coffee and it was terribly strong, too. I drink Folgers coffee singles with sugar and cream every morning and it is ever so much milder. I wonder what the strong setting would be like, but not enough to try it. My wife totally agrees with my assessment. I finally realized one of the reasons it is so strong. Some of the finely ground coffee beans was mixed in my cup of coffee – not filtered very well. I had some paper coffee filters and filtered it externally - still far too strong for me. Even with pre-ground coffee, there will be a lot of fine particles of coffee swimming throughout the cup of coffee. I don't like to see anything in my coffee, not even so much as a slight color variant. I've looked at the instructions and I can't find any reference to a normal filter. I've opened up the coffee maker and I just don't see anything to prevents the coffee grounds from getting into the coffee. Apparently this is the way it is intended to work. After I brewed three or four cups of coffee, I opened up the drawer to throw away the damp spent coffee grounds. There were separate cylindrical piles for each cup of coffee I made. It reminded me of a hockey puck, except they were scaled down to about two inches in diameter. No wonder the coffee was so strong. But it didn’t seem like it ground up anywhere near that many coffee beans. The quantity of beans in the hopper still looks about the same. Anyway, the point is that it produced one of these hockey pucks for every cup of coffee. I have no experience to know if this is normal, but I think it is the way it is intended to operate. I diluted the cups of coffee 50:50 with water and it seemed to be just as strong afterwards. There is another location to fill with pre-ground coffee. I’ve going to do that after my next trip to the grocery store to determine if the coffee strength can be made any milder. I'll update my results afterwards. My wife and I normally drink Folgers brand coffee packaged in single tea bag style packets. We use a lot of French Vanilla creamer and a fair amount of sugar to achieve the taste we prefer. There is a milk container that can be attached to the front of the coffee machine to make milk froths for a multilayered Cappuccino or a Latte and other combination drinks. And if you just want a cup of hot water, it can do that as well. After you finish using milk, there is a purge function to clean out the residual milk so that the residual milk doesn’t spoil inside the coffee maker. There is an adjustment for water hardness, too. A test strip is included to adjust for three different levels of water hardness. I used the soft water setting because I bought bottled water. My house tap water is very mineralized, so I never drink it. There is an included water filter that fits inside the water reservoir. There is a plastic dial to help you remember when to replace it – apparently every two months. You can make two cups of coffee simultaneously. A dual stream of coffee comes out of the spout – placement of your coffee cups is important. Otherwise, when using a single cup, you make sure both streams fall within the perimeter of the cup. The integrated 60 ounce water reservoir is fairly easily removed for refilling, which is good because the water level drops fairly quickly. This coffee maker seems to do everything except add sugar. It seems to be the only thing missing, but that’s probably not high on the list of needed features. I need plenty of sugar and cream to camouflage the taste of coffee. In contrast, my oldest daughter likes very strong coffee and drinks coffee all during the day. Considering the price, this coffee maker probably appeals the most to serious coffee connoisseurs. Mechanically, it appears to be very well designed and built. The spill reservoir has gotten used a lot while I have been learning how to operate it. It has a polished stainless steel top plate that is easy to scratch if you slide a ceramic coffee cup on it. Ceramic is much harder than steel and unfortunately, the bottoms of most coffee cups have a very rough surface from the molding operation. Mine has already gotten scratched from just a few cups of brewed coffee. I’ll have to be more careful than I have been. It has a claimed shipping weight of ten pounds. However, it feels heavier than that to me. It takes up considerable counter space with a footprint of 9½ by 17 inches. Its 13½ inch height fits under kitchen cabinets, but you need some additional vertical access space to add coffee beans or pre-ground coffee. If you are seeking a coffee maker in this price range, then this model seems to be quite capable. There is a huge range of pricing from $150 to $15,000 and more. I don’t know the reasons for the wide price spread, so I cannot advise you of the price versus merits.
