Black+Decker (TO3290XSD) 8-Slice Digital Extra Wide Toaster Oven Customer Reviews
This is my second purchase of this toaster/convection oven. The last one crapped out after about 7 years of continuous use. I didn't give it 5 stars because I feel like the price is a little high. Other than that this is a great little oven. It doesn't heat up the whole kitchen like a regular would, especially in the summer months. It will easily fit a 9x13 pan, or a pizza, which is one of the main features for me.

The toaster oven is great for toasting and out doing the MICROWAVE which just has limitations. Reheating pizza or crisping different foods makes having a toaster a must need. The unit gets extremely hot, so use caution while using it around kids or other adults. It will take 21 1/2 inches of length from your counter by 14 inches wide. and 11 1/2 inches high. The instruction manual is helpful with the touch button operation.
Unfortunately, The Blacker & Decker toaster oven quit operating normally after 3 weeks of light duty. Toasted breads and alike using the default settings. But during actual food cooking in the 325 degree and above setting, the unit shut down without warning. It does reset after it cools down, but that's not good if your preparing your dinner.
The manufacturer recommends notifying them with any issues.

Like the fact it's large so you can cook a whole chicken or fit your cooking pans . Also our old toaster took forever to make toast this one it's done really quick . Easy to use once you figure it out . Update after 5 months I sent it back to B&D waiting for a replacement

I am a baker by trade so that means I can only afford to bake in convection ovens at work. I NEVER imagined I would be able to have one so when I first laid eyes on the Black and Decker 8-Slice Digital Extra-Wide Convection Oven I was in HEAVEN! I also needed it because I couldn't convince my husband to use the oven as a toaster. He insisted that it was too hard to remember to turn over the toast after a few minutes under the broiler.
The toaster has a ton of bells and whistles, every option you could ask for when it comes to cooking things. The symbols on the door tell you which button to push - for example, if I want to use the convection oven, I find "convection oven" on the glass and the symbol then press the corresponding button.
The only drawback is the size but I guess it's not really a drawback if you have space and you have been wanting a convection oven that can easily accommodate a quarter sheet pan. Yes, you read that right, a QUARTER sheet pan!! It just so happens one batch of cake fits perfectly in this size pan so it's no problem at all baking one off in the little oven. I've also used it to roast broccoli (on the convection setting) and it worked perfectly. The tops and bottoms of the pieces were cooked perfectly.
It does an amazing job at making toast and English muffins, the only thing is that it takes a little bit of trial and error to figure out which number setting works best. It seemed that 3 was too light and 4 was too dark but I'm still fiddling around with this.
It has a removable tray underneath that is super easy to clean (just don't do like I did, please remember to put it back after you wash it!). The last feature I thought I would mention would be the little wire rack. It slides in and out with ease and you can either put it on the top to use on the broiler setting (there is an extra tray to go under it to catch drippings) or in the middle. We recently got tov try out the convection oven with spectrum brands first look and my family loves it. We completely got rid our our toaster and only use this to toast our bread and other smaller items like little personal pizzas instead having to use the big oven. We have still only used it a few times and it does have a beginning metal burning stink to it but we know after a couple more times the smell will go away just cause it's so new! Thumbs up from me!

Very happy with this BLACK+DECKER TO3290XSD 8-Slice Digital Extra Wide.
Quality, fit, finish and ease of use are all what I was hoping for.
One of our primary needs was to fit standard 9x13".5 baking pans so Ive included some pics to help others visualize the actual size.
Also fits three foil loaf pans or two 10 ¼x7 ¾ " baking pans.
Tested temp range to 425 and seemed to run true against a cheap oven thermometer.

This oven is as described in the product outline on Amazon's item page. However there are a few things that take some getting used to, particularly on the controls. Each time the oven is used, the owner's guide instructs that the oven be unplugged (not a bad idea from a safety standpoint), but you have to remember to plug back in and start all over with the controls. Now for the non-intuitive part: You have to hit the power button, then hit the function button, say the convection oven button, then set the temperature. Now the power button needs to be hit again to start the convection oven. If you remember to do all of this, there is one more thing to remember. There is an automatic timer that is on default, so once you set the oven and temp. the timer is at 20 minutes to turn off the oven. If you don't remember to turn the timer off and you have something that needs to bake for an hour, guess what. One more thing: this oven has hot spots. Definitely use a oven thermometer in each rack position. I found the top rack to be 50 degrees hotter than the LED panel indicates. Looks nice, good crumb tray that is easy to remove and clean, racks are very sturdy and good quality. Power cord is well made, although somewhat short.
I think this product has been over engineered. The controls are too complicated for a toaster oven. So complicated that it was difficult to write this review. So, if you like gadgetry, this is for you. If you want a toaster oven that is easy to set and does what a toaster oven should do, be aware! I suggest that you download the instruction manual to see if this oven is for you

I have 2 issues with this oven: the controls are in pictograms instead of printed words and the code is in itty bitty pictures with tiny printed words next to them on the glass door. I keep a flashlight nearby, but even then it's hard to figure out the settings. A lot of the picture look the same, or they don't look anything like what they're supposed to be. For most things I just set temp. and time on the main buttons. The convection setting comes on automatically when you set the temp. There are lots of times when I don't want to use it, but you can't shut it off. There are many times when I set the temp 25 degrees lower than the recipes calls for to compensate and make sure to keep an eye on the food as it gets close to being done. The top gets very hot which is handy for warming plates if I set a rack on top first.
I do like that it heats up quickly and you can set the timer for as long as you like. The size is great.

Just received this oven today and I cooked pork chops with shake n bake and they came out really good. Had a little trouble with the instructions but I think I understand them now. Everything I toast in it comes out really good. I am very happy that I bought this oven. Black and Decker is suppose to be one of the better ovens, I gave up on on Oster.
Update: I have now owned the oven for a year and I love it. The toaster works great and toasts fast, I just love the convection oven, the food cooks fast and it comes out great. My only complaint is that the inside does not have a non-stick coating and it is very hard to keep clean, that is the only reason that I gave it 4 stars.

So far I love this oven and how nice it looks on my counter top. I compared this to several of the other $200 plus toaster ovens and this Black + Decker convection oven has nearly all the same features. It looks to me like Black + Decker has done a good job imitating some of the more more expensive convection ovens available and delivered the end product at a very reasonable price.

I purchased this toaster oven so I could make toast and bake in the summer without broiling myself in my apartment. I use a window-hose style A/C to cool the apartment, but it struggles to keep up with any oven use over 20 minutes and more powerful A/Cs are out of my price range. The size of this oven is great as an oven-replacement, and the convection feature means everything cooks faster (great when you're impatient like me). It also looks nice on the countertop.
So far I've made several batches of toast, cooked and reheated a few meals and baked a cake. Everything has come out great, especially the cake. The oven is super easy to use: press the function, adjust temp and time as needed, press start. Press stop if you want to end it early, otherwise it'll beep once pleasantly and shut off on its own. Temperature range is 150 - 450 and can be adjusted in 25 degree increments. The timer displays minutes remaining until the last minute, where it switches to counting down seconds. Max timer length is 2 hours, with a stay-on function for bake and reheat only.
The oven claims it can hold most 9" x 13" pans, and I find this to be accurate. I have a newer-style 9" x 13" Pyrex pan that doesn't fit without touching the sides (don't know what effect this would have with the oven on), and an older non-stick 9" x 13" pan that fits fine. The "bump" in the back is full width, so it's good for more than just inserting a round pizza.
You can definitely feel the heat if you stand directly in front of the oven while it's on, but that's only while it's actually running. It doesn't make the kitchen nearly as hot as running my full-size oven and uses nearly 1,000 kWhs less while also cooking faster. The convection fan is on whenever you bake, but it's basically silent. I'm very satisfied with this oven.

I've always wanted one of these counter-top convection ovens. I tried several different types of food in it and everything came out great. I used the Pizza setting to cook a Red Baron 12" pizza. The crust was very crispy, just the way my son likes it. The edges and toppings were browned nicely with a much more even cook than my oven does it. I tried the Frozen setting to cook some Bagel Bites because I wanted to see if they would come out better than the 'hockey pucks' I get with my oven. They did! They were cooked through and not rubbery. The bottom and sides were crispy and that was the first time I got my son to eat an entire plate of them. I used the Convection Oven setting to bake some cookies. LOVED THEM!!! Oowee-Gooie inside and crisp outer edges. I prefer this Toaster Oven overall because I haven't had anything turn out other than AWESOME since I plugged it up. If you're in the market for one of these Counter-top appliances, I would definitely recommend THIS BRAND! The instructions were super easy to follow. For a person who's never used one of these before, I didn't get frustrated or bummed out because the booklet that came with it was very straight-forward and had clear instructions.

In review of the Black & Decker Convection oven I will say this oven is a great stainless steel color and very pretty to sit on your counter. I will say it was a bit larger an expected however it has turned out useful because it will fit an entire frozen pizza and also a 9x13 pan! It really would be great for an apartment or work kitchen without an oven. You could utilize the convention feature and really not be limited by space. I enjoy the crumb tray that will fully pull out. The buttons are easy to use, for example you press “toast” button and then you can adjust the various settings 1-7 depending on what degree of heat you want. There are several individual buttons such as toast, bagel, reheat, convection etc. I think the various buttons make it very simple to use. The convection feature also cooks things pretty fast, so that will be a good feature to use this little oven instead of heating up your big oven. I have cooked some frozen food in it and cooking was fast and easy! I think this oven is a quality product and well built. I still think it is a little large for my use but at least it is nice looking sitting on your counter.

This is actually my very first convection oven of any kind. I had no idea it could be used for such a variety of things. The oven came packed tightly. There was tape and styrofoam to keep it from getting scratched or broken. There are only 3 pieces that you have to put in the oven yourself. There's a crumb tray that goes in at the very bottom, there's the main grill that slides into one of the 3 positions (top, middle, and bottom), and the metal tray that can go under the grill or on top. The attached video shows you exactly how it's done. It's very easy. The digital oven comes with pre-set options. You can choose from: Convection oven, a toasting option, a bagel option, a frozen food option, a re-heat option, a pizza option, and a broil option. There are also up and down buttons for temperature and a timer/toast setting. When you choose the toasting option you can press on the up or down arrows by the "toast/timer" options to choose your toasting setting. It can go from 1-7 with 1 being just slightly toasted to 7 being almost black. I have started using convection oven times on the backs of products instead of my microwave because the food just comes out tasting better and not as rubbery or hard. I used this oven with my Thanksgiving leftovers and they came out tasting sooo much better than using the microwave. I am addicted to this oven now and use it all the time. I like that it doesn't heat up the entire house. I do want to add that the outside of the oven gets hot. So you definitely need to keep this away from little curious hands. I keep mine pushed back on my counter top when I have little visitors over.

I have never seen an extra wide toaster oven in a store so I didn't know what to expect. I was totally surprised at the size of the Black & Decker oven when it arrived. This one is "huge". It is a whopping 21 inches wide and 12 1/4 inches deep, add another 1/2 inch for the parts on each side of the back to protect the wall. The toaster oven I've been using is 17 X 11 1/4 so this oven is quite a bit larger. You need to have a lot of counter space, and fortunately I do. I use my toaster oven faithfully and can't do without one. This extra wide oven is going to be great! The oven is a very nice style with an ample size digital display. Buttons for choosing the functions are below the digital display. The oven ihas a metal casing and not insulated so one must be careful and not touch it while it's in use. There is a warning about this in the manual. The oven comes with only one rack and a slide out crumb tray making it easy for cleaning. I wished regular toasters have slide out crumb trays. I wrapped a piece of foil around the crumb tray which helps keep the tray clean. There are symbols of the different functions on the buttons as well as in white on the glass door with the descriptions for each symbol which I found to be helpful. I have no idea how a convection oven works so it's going to take some time to get use to using the oven. I first tried the toaster function. I toasted two halves of a type of artisan bread by pressing on the button with the toaster feature function. On a setting of 1 being the lightest to 7 the darkest. The oven was already set at #4 for toasting, I just press the start/stop button. The digital display is nice and big and bright. You're supposed to let the oven heat up first when using any of the functions. The oven will beep when it is heated to the correct temperature. I think it took "approximately" three minutes for this setting. The oven toasted the bread a little too dark making the bread too crisp/hard. I lowered the setting to #3 to lighten the bread. Next I toasted 6 slices of regular bread. There was ample space for that many slices. This time it browned the bread on top but not so much on the bottom. The oven does toast a lot faster then my current toaster oven. To try the convection oven feature I took out my favorite white casserole dish. The box the oven came in indicates that the oven will fit a 9X13" casserole dish. My dish is 13 3/4" X 11 1/2" and fits inside the oven with another 2 1/2" to spare. I made a mac and cheese casserole with crispy onions sprinkled on top. I first set the temperature at 350 degrees and timed it for 40 minutes. After about five minutes of baking I could see the onions getting browned too soon. I lowered the time to 30minutes and covered the casserole with foil. The oven peeped when time was up to eat! The oven did a great job heating the casserole through. Now time to try the broiler feature. I cut two pieces of partly frozen chicken breast in half crosswise because of the thickness. The oven has 3 rack positions so place the rack on the highest for broiling. I put a piece of foil on the baking pan that comes with the oven. I pressed the broil setting and set the the timer my guess for 10 minutes. After it peeped the chicken looked like it was done for this side. Here's the scary part, when I pulled the rack with the chicken on it out the rack came out slightly tilted causing the pan to start sliding off the rack. I was using only one pot holder but fortunately was able to keep the pan and chicken from falling on the floor. This caught me by surprise because your first reaction would be to touch the hot pan to keep your food from falling to the floor. Good thing I caught myself before that happened. Bye the way the cord is very very short only approximately 25 inches long to the end of the plug itself. I had the toaster oven on the island and it had to be right at the edge in order for me to plug it into an outlet on the side. I turned the chicken over and broiled the other side for the same amount of time 10 minutes. The chicken was done. After I was done with the broiling and the oven cooled off some I wanted to see why the rack came out tilting downward. It looks like the grooves where the rack is slid into is too wide so the rack is not secured tightly in the grooves on both sides of the oven. This I see is a problem. Lastly for my review, there is only one recipe in the manual for a single serving of a Chocolate Chip cake in a mug. First I turned on the convection/bake function to warm up to 375F as directed. I followed the measurements for the ingredients but sifted the dry ingredients instead. I greased and floured the bottom of the cup to prevent sticking. After mixing the wet ingredients with the dry it didn't look like very much batter and only filled the cup I used to just under halfway. The recipe says to bake the cake between 15 and 18 minutes. Since there wasn't a lot of batter I timed it for only 10 minutes. When time was up I checked the cake and the top was a nice golden brown. The way you would test a cake when it's done is to stick a tooth pick or small skewer in the center. If nothing sticks to it then it's done. The cake only rose to slightly higher then half of the cup. It didn't look anything like the picture with the cake risen above the edge of the cup and the chocolate chips laying on top. My cup must be quite a bit larger. However it was tasty. I really like the toaster oven and I'm going to put it to good use. As I said earlier I can't do without one. I especially like the wide width. That's the best part in not having to heat up the regular oven. I still have a lot to figure out on how to use the oven but I'm going to really enjoy using it.

When I first received this from the Sparks team for review, I was a bit apprehensive, my old toaster oven had fairly self explanatory dials on it. This has a number of buttons, presets, and is a bit more complicated than I expected. I definitely recommend reading the manual that comes with it, makes it much easier to operate. First of all, it is a nice wider oven which will accommodate a 9"x 13" pan which is wonderful and makes it much easier to save on using the 220 of your regular oven. There are 7 preset settings and in the manual gives you detailed steps that help you understand each preset, whether you should need to preheat, hints for each setting, etc. There is also a function chart which tells you the default settings of time and temperatures and and also the temperature range of each preset. Also on the door, there are little icons for the presets and what they stand for, kind of a cheat sheet. It took us awhile to get used to this oven but we are now very happy with it. It is attractive, well made and it heats very quickly and everything we've cooked in it we've been satisfied with the result. The one drawback I don't like about the oven is that there is not an on/off switch and you are advised to unplug it when not in us and it repeats that often in the instructions. I'm sure it saves on electricity but it was just inconvenient. We have our oven on a kitchen rack and we have it plugged into a surge protector. I mounted the surge protector on the back of the rack and it has an on/off switch and we switch that on and off instead of actually unplugging the unit and it works beautifully since the oven is the only appliance we have plugged into it. Very nice oven, works very well, would definitely recommend....

This Black & Decker Digital Extra Wide Convection Toaster Oven is amazing! This convection oven replaced the one I have had for 10 years and I LOVE it! This one is double the size of my old one and fits a 13x9 baking dish inside, 8 slices of bread or a 12 inch pizza. It heats evenly and has seven separate cooking functions like baking, broiling, toasting, a bagel setting, a reheat wetting, pizza and frozen snack settings. The digital controls are nice and has a bright blue light when you turn it on. It also has a 120 minutes timer with auto shutoff and a stay on function. The digital screens shows the cooking information you have set up. It also has three positions to place the racks inside and has a removable crumb tray. The only negative I saw was when you open the door it will fall down fast and hard on the counter so you have to be careful and open the door slowly so you don't damage the door or the handle. Would be nice if they fixed that but other than that this is perfect and I love the size so I don't have to always use my oven to make a full meal now which saves money on utility bills and doesn't makes your house so hot as the oven would.

The Black and Decker Digital Extra Wide Convection Toaster Oven came well packaged in a sturdy box. The Convection Toaster Oven came with a slide out crumb tray, a slide rack, and instructions. The instructions were easy to read and follow. The color is chrome with black finishings and the front door has a glass window. I just love my previous Convection Toaster Ovens and this Black and Decker Convection Toaster Oven is a must oven for any family home. I especially like how the slide out crumb tray slides out from the front and not the back. Previous toaster ovens had them in the back and it was so difficult and inconvenient to remove and clean. This oven has several functions to choose from. They range from Convection and Bake, Toast, Broil, Bagel, Reheat, Pizza, Frozen Snacks, Temperature, Timer and Toast Shade, and a Start-Stop button. You can also pick from 1-7 when toasting; 1 is the lightest and 7 is the darkest. The included sliding rack can be moved to three different locations in the oven; top, middle, bottom. This Toaster Oven will be the most used and utilized appliance in my kitchen. Overall, I would recommend this product to any family household.

I mainly bought this toaster to make sourdough toast with. Using toaster no. 7 setting it does my toast exactly as I wanted it- slightly burned. We have broiled steaks with it and they consistently come out perfect- juicy and tender and slightly pink in the middle. Our full size oven can't compare. We have baked chicken in our toaster oven and it does a really good job. And there has been no splatter- either broiling or baking. This toaster oven has far exceeded my expectations and I am well satisfied.
