Calphalon Special Brew 10-Cup Coffee Maker Reviews

Had this coffee maker for maybe 2years. We accidentally poured more water than 10 cups and it over flowed. Somehow that affected the finish cutoff beeper. It shuts off brewing before all the water is used.

We bought this about 9 months ago. No research was done because we trusted the brand. Over all we like the coffee maker and design. The carafe is terrible though. The spout design will assure you spill coffee every pour. The coffee runs over the edge and down the pot unless you pour super slow and at the precise angle. If you have any wrist or hand issues, stay away or keep a wet rag by your coffee maker. We are looking for another one.

Have had this coffee maker for about 4 months after reading solid reviews on Consumer Reports. The quality of the brew is excellent. The brewer itself is not so good. The burner is too hot and burns the coffee within minutes. We have had to transfer coffee almost immediately to a carafe. The ground tray spring attachment broke. Replacement is not available. It clogs easily, and is nigh impossible to clean. Right now, it looks like it is headed to the recycling bin. Overall disappointed

This coffee maker is very easy to set up and use. The coffee stays very hot, even after pouring!

Finally a coffee maker that matches my black stainless appliances! I'm not a big coffee drinker but to be able to control the level of strength is great. This coffee maker is very user friendly. The delayed programming feature is amazing and the non stick hot plate was great for cleanup and the prevention of scorched coffee. I loved the coffee maker! Once you read the instructions that come with the product, very short by the way, it is easy to operate it and use it. The quality of the coffee maker seems very good, I liked the metallic appearance and it looks very sturdy. The clock looks nice and can help you to know the time, the brew later feature helps me to leave it programed to brew in the morning. I do not use the “strong” feature since I like the coffee regular as it is brewed. The taste of the brewed coffee is good, however I do not notice a big difference with my older coffee maker. I find the look of the coffee maker to be very appealing and it fits in very nicely with my style. The buttons have a good feel when you press them responding with an audible beep. The overall quality of the coffee maker is good but filter basket could be better. The coffee itself is delicious, even an hour later because of the hot plate. I have not noticed a burnt taste from the coffee sitting too long. I do enjoy being able to brew from a timer so I'll have coffee waiting for me as I rush to get ready in the morning. However, I do have a few gripes with the machine. It's mostly in the carafe where I have an actual problem. The lid feels a little cheap and has a lip on it that keeps water/coffee from being fully poured out of it. The term “special brew” is a little misleading to me. The exterior has stainless steel on the outside for a modern look, but really only has a few upgraded features over a standard, cheaper alternative. One of the features is the “strong brew” which allows for a stronger cup of coffee. For people who like the bold and robust flavor of coffee, this is great. Another feature that is helpful is the “brew later” options. You can set the time before bed and wake up to a hot pot of coffee. As for the pot itself, it does not quite make as much coffee as water that is put into the machine. It always seems to be about half a cup less than poured into it. It is probably attributed to steam and vapor, but it is worth noting to add a little more water to the pot at the start of brewing. Overall, it is a nice coffee pot, but you may find that hefty price is unwarranted. The Calphalon special Brew coffee maker is a perfect choice for those who enjoy a flavorful cup of coffee. Right away my husband and I noticed the difference in the flavor of the coffee. It wasn't stronger, it just had more flavor. I also love the look and design of the coffee maker. It is durable and the brushed stainless Steele look is beautiful on my counter top. The only “complaint” I have is that it is really loud when it brews and it is bigger than our old pot.
