Does slow cookers use a lot of electricity?

Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS has 1500 watts Slow cookers consume very little energy because their heating element draws very little current and traps heat. A slow cooker uses about 1300 watts of power, which is significantly less than the power used by an oven for 60 minutes of cooking at 350 degrees Fahrenheit. They also help to reduce evaporation. Slow cookers use a fraction of the energy that an oven does, but they should be considered in terms of energy consumption. Slow cookers use 70 watts on low and 250 watts on high. As a result, a slow cooker uses about 150 watts of power on average.

Can you program a slow cooker to start at a certain time?

With the Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS 6.5 Quart Programmable Touchscreen slow cooker allows you to set the cook time and heat level for example, 4 hours on low, and the cooker will automatically switch to warm, lowering the temperature. Meal times can be magical even for those with a hectic schedule. Simply add the ingredients to the stoneware insert and refrigerate overnight to prepare the slow cooker the night before. Then, before leaving for work in the morning, insert the stoneware insert into the heating base, secure the lid, turn on the slow cooker, and set the programmable timer the slow cooker will do the rest. Dinner will be ready and waiting after a long day at the office or a slew of weekend errands.

How do I use a slow cooker for the first time?

With the Touchscreen Panel of Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS, it's simple to use. Simply plug in your slow cooker, add the ingredients for your chosen recipe, and set the cooker to low or high, depending on the recipe's instructions, then cover and leave it to cook. The digital timer will countdown the minutes and automatically switch the cooker to warm when cook time is up, keeping track of how long the unit has been in warm mode as well.

So are Crock-Pot SCVT650-PS slow cookers really worth it?

"I grew up with the Crockpot, so I've always loved slow cookers," says Patrick Curran, executive chef at Lore Group in Washington, D.C. "In effect, a slow cooker is the same as turning your stove's back burner on low and leaving it on all day." Of course, because very few of us are comfortable leaving a burner on and unattended for hours (as we should be), the slow cooker is the ideal solution. Slow cookers are the ultimate in "set it and forget it" cooking, allowing you to develop deep, unctuous flavor with minimal supervision and significantly lower fire hazards. "I would recommend a slow cooker for any stew or soup," Curran says. "If you have any leftover bones, simply place them in a slow cooker and in a few hours, you'll have homemade stock that you can keep on hand for other recipes," he adds.

I bought this crockpot t months ago. I work 12 hour shifts and start cooking when I leave for work at 5:30 am. With the timer, it turns to warm at the right time. Perfect for my family when they get home. Unfortunately, I broke my insert and the replacement is not available.

Based on research this is "the" programmable crockpot to have. Found them at WM for wife's Mothers Day per her request only to arrive with a chip in the ceramic pot portion...disappointing! The chip was visible and justified the return... The return/exchange process was a bit cumbersome but managed to ship it back, now waiting ?? Days/weeks? To get the new one, now anticlimactic given the celebration to get this is gone. Let's see what next one will be like.... When doing a store pickup, best to fully open the entire content to make sure...

The slow cooker I had for 20 some years finally stopped working. It was another brand, so I shopped around looking for the same features and I chose this one. I wanted the digital timer. The stainless steel wasn't my first choice, but, it has not been that hard to keep clean. Instructions on how to use are clear and easy to follow.

I had been looking for several weeks for a slow cooker that allowed me to insert a 2 Qt. Cassarole inside the cooker in order to steam certain recipes. Although it barely fits (rests on the sides), it does the job. In addition, I wanted to be able to set the time and the cook level where I wanted to and not be stuck with 2 settings on low & 2 settings on hi. I also wanted to have the cooker automatically switch to warm after the cooking cycle was finished. In addition to meeting those specs, this cooker is smart looking. In addition to above, Walmart shipped it free compared to 14.90 for Amazon. I recommend it.

This was one of the slow cookers that was recommended on America's Test Kitchen and I ended up buying it at a really good price. Used it twice so far and the food was cooked perfectly each time. I really liked the feature of it's keeping the food warm once the cooking time ends.

I purchased this entirely because America's Test Kitchen rated it as highly reliable. They said it achieves and maintains the correct temperatures on both low and high. I had another model, from your company, which I bought just a few years ago, and its temperature on high only barely approached the correct temp. for low. So I went looking. Interestingly, I found nothing in your literature which spoke about the temperature reliability of any of your models, including this one. That is the feature that is most important to me, and I had to rely on the Test Kitchen to identify it. You are missing an opportunity here, because I'm finding this appliance to be just what I wanted.

The croc pot arrived faster than I had expected. It was exactly as pictured and looks great on my countertop. I used it the first time on Saturday and prepared a pot roast with all the usual fare, carrots, potatoes, onions and celery. It cooked slow for about 8 hours. When I arrived home that evening the aromas throughout the house were incredible. The cooking was done and the cooker had gone into stay warm mode just as was stated in your advertising. All I had to do was pop some biscuits in the oven and I was ready to enjoy. It was great. Thanks for making such a great product..

This crock pot is the perfect size and it has done a great job with the food I've prepared so far. I made 2 recipes from the book that came with the crockpot and I loved having the main dish ready at dinner witout any extra effort from me. I didn't particularly care for the lemon chicken, since it was rather tasteless, but I learned that a whole chicken may not be the best recipe to fix in a slow cooker - not enough area gets the spices to keep the flavor throughout the bird. The chicken casserole was wonderful as it used breasts, which acquired spice from the stuffing and other ingredients. I didn't find that the food closest to the heating element cooked the food any more well done that any of the rest, which was great. I fixed a brisquet in the cooker for sloppy joes and we really enjoyed them. I plan to cook a roast soon, as I think meats like that will be better using a crockpot. The crock pot is very easy to clean. I don't have a dish washer, so can't share an opinion on that method of cleaning, but hand washing is very easy - no sticking problems what-so-ever!

I like the size of the unit and the workmanship. I like the digital controls but they didn't go the extra mile. I think it would be nice if you could select LOW then have a range of temperatures. Or HIGH then have the same functions. Almost forgot the glass lid which is wonderful. Over all it is a very good unit.

I absolutely love my new crock pot! The switch over feature from cooking to warm had me sold. I know that when I get home from work my recipes will not be scorched. The design is classy. I only have one small complaint - one of the rubber feet came off and I had to super glue it back in place.
