THE WORST MICROWAVE I HAVE EVER OWNED. THE NUMBERS DO NOT LIGHT UP. THE COOKING IS NOT EVEN. THE PLASTIC COVERING OVER THE NUMBERS STARTED TO BLISTER AFTER FOUR MONTHS OF USE. THE DOOR GETS STUCK AND TAKES TWO HANDS TO OPEN -- ONE TO PUSH THE 'OPEN BUTTON' AND THE OTHER HAND TO ACTUALLY PULL THE DOOR OPEN. THE TURNTABLE WOBBLES. I CAN PUT ONLY LIGHT AMOUNTS OF FOOD IN TO COOK, OTHERWISE THE TURNTABLE STOPS AND THEN SKIPS, IF IT STARTS TO TURN AT ALL. IT ALSO MAKES WEIRD GROANING NOISES. I AM DITCHING IT AND WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER PANASONIC PRODUCT. EVER.

My use of a microwave oven is mostly for defrosting frozen food. Fast and evenness in heating are the most important and the main criteria for selecting when buying this microwave. I don't understand why the Panasonic microwave would be advertised as if power and evenness in heating is the most important feature of the product. As it turned out, it is the opposite in actual use. When defrosting frozen raw meat before cooking, it invariably gets a corner or the bottom cooked whereas other parts are still hard frozen. I did a test. Break a raw egg in a bowl, add some water and whisk, to make a thin jelly. The result is, no matter what, I simply could not get an evenly cooked egg jelly. I thought the power level was too high, so set it low and stretched the time of heating, but the result is always overcooked on the edge around but the center is still liquid and never congeal. The same with heating, say, a refrigerated (i.e., not frozen) bowl of stew. After heating, the bowl is so hot it burns my hand and I have to use a towel to take it out. But when eating, the center is found to be still cold. Therefore sensor cooking and evenness of heating is not true as advertised. Before this one I used a cheap microwave but evenness of heating was better than this Panasonic. The solution is to defrost for a shorter time and do not open the door but leave the meat inside for some time to let the remaining heat inside the oven to gradually spread to the entire piece of meat (but this is not fast). Or get the meat half defrosted in the microwave, then take the meat out and put it in warm water. Or when defrosting fish, do not use microwave at all but warm water only. These solutions are true of all brands of microwave I have used. So Panasonic, weaker in even heating, please do not advertise sensor cooking and even heating.

While our old Samsung served us well for 15 years, the need for anew MW was eminent. we chose this because the Panasonic product is rated well and we liked the design. However the functions are quite bothersome. WTH is "Inverter" got to do with defrosting, they sure do not explain very well in the manual. The over-kill options are more bothersome as well. Too many separate functions that make simply heating items a bit like flying a 747. The buttons are much more pressure demanding than our old Samsung Finally, the display screen is quite enigmatic, more questions than explanations. Overall, it heats, but so does less function gifted units that are easier to operate.

I've never had a microwave that got so hot. I always put a towel under whatever I am heating up so I can take it right out of the oven and not have to mess with oven mitts but not with this one. The towel is so hot you can't touch it. I thought microwaves were not supposed to do that and that was one benefit of them. The outside of it gets very hot also. You can touch it but I wouldn't hold my hand on it for too long. Another thing is you can't simmer in it without having to restart it every 30 minutes. The timer will not go longer than 30 minutes. Whoever heard of that? I liked it at first but now I just think it is a fire hazard. I can't get another one so I'm just going to cross my fingers that I don't burn down my house.

We do like this microwave. It cooks and reheats just like it is supposed to. The reheat sensor feature is nice and defrosting in a hurry is easy and convenient. What I do NOT like about it are the 2 features it DOESN'T have, and I had no idea how much I relied upon these features until we bought this unit that didn't have them. For the quick 30sec feature, you have to push the 30sec button, and then also push the start button. Why? The other feature missing is the reminding beep that something is in the microwave. I run a busy household and can't tell you how often something is forgotten inside. Of course we find it around the next meal time, but end up throwing the food away for spoilage.

This seems to be a nice microwave. I am concerned about the many inverter failures I've read about, but in the end I was swayed by the positive reviews overall and from friends who swear by the inverters. It is very powerful, and in fact perhaps too powerful. Even the instructions suggest using a lower power level for most foods. I find myself using power level 8 a lot. Turbo defrost seems to work great. Cooking and defrost do seem to be even, and I think that is why most folks like the inverter models. Like others have said, the instant 30 second button requires a second button to start. I also find that annoying as my prior microwave started immediately upon the first press of the instant (1 minute) button. However in my case it is nice to have the 30 second button..so it is a trade-off for me. What's even nicer is that you can set the power level before using the instant 30 second button. The Sensor cooking option is inadequate. In my experience it barely warms my food even when I press the More button. So I can only used it as a first step, then use normal operation to finish the heating. The popcorn feature allows you to set it for different sized bags. However, in my first use of the feature it ended too soon and stopped before popping had even slowed (yes, I had correctly set the bag size). Appearance-wise, the microwave looks nice from the front, but the sides and top are rather plain. No effort was made by Panasonic to make it look attractive from the sides. I agree with others that it is difficult to read the text on the buttons. Not enough contrast. I guess once you get familiar with it you don't need to read them as much. The button to open the door is stainless steel, so it shows fingerprints all of the time. Why they would use stainless steel for such a button is beyond me. Emphasis on appearance over function perhaps, but in the end it looks ugly due to the ever-present smudges. I gave up trying to keep it smudge free...now only when expecting guests. Be sure to read the manual if you don't need some of the child-safety features that others are complaining about. I bought this to replace a 28 year old Samsung that I bought as a display model. It's too bad that Samsung quality is not what it used to be (I won't consider Samsung appliances nowadays). I'd even bet the 28 year old microwave in its new forever home will outlast this new Panasonic, but hey...it was only 700W, smaller capacity, and had fewer features. Still, I've no doubt it will serve its new owners well.

The interior dimension was t almost 2 inches shorter in width than they listed and as a result it only has about 1.0 cu ft capacity not the 1.2 cu ft as listed. That extra 2 inches of width which my current microwave had would make it a lot easier to grasp and lift large bowls or the platter in and out of the microwave. Inaccurate information wastes a lot of people's time having to send back an order and look for a replacement and I won't buy panasonic again since i feel they are not trustworthy with the accuracy of their information. Its already hard enough to not be able to see a product firsthand and have to guess at what it really looks like in size or features, so in the very least they should have accurate dimensions.

Died just after a year. Support is difficult to reach and will pass you off to nowhere. When it was working, it was noisy and the power fluxed. Microwave model # NN-SN686S is a lemon. Believe the bad reviews. Don’t waste your money.

Had to purchase with little time for research. This microwave if faster so we have had to reduce time to reheat left overs. How great is that? It is easy to operate. I read the instructions and they are clear. If you want to have a chuckle or two read the list of things not to do with the microwave. It is bizarre to think that people have actually done some of those things so they have to put it in manual. Two examples are don't try to deep fry or dry clothes. I know there are many features that we will never use but someone who cooks a lot will love them. It is easy to clean inside and out and it opens easily. We Love this microwave so much we kind of wish our old one had died sooner.

Until it suddenly stopped working 9 months in, this appliance met our needs for light daily reheating. Unfortunately, when it stopped working for no obvious reason I was unable to reach a human at Panasonic to help me either locate a company to repair the still under warranty appliance or to exchange it for a new one. The repair company listed on Panasonic's website says they have not been doing warranty work for years and has been unable to get Panasonic to correct the info online. I have called all the local appliance repair places, and none do Panasonic warranty work. I can't reach anyone via chat or phone at Panasonic. So, I am faced with purchasing a new product... despite this initially seeming like a good product, it won't be Panasonic.

This item worked fine until it stopped, after 9 months. It's going to the dump without me knowing if it just needed a simple fix. Down the drain is a number of hours of my life after going through Panasonic's online self-help toubleshooting pages, none of which helped, my self or anyone. No troubles were shot. My attempts at a "chat" were met with an error message telling me there was no such page where my description of my problem was "submitted" from Panasonic's own help page. Calling was interesting. Back and forth with a number that rang without answer and a number answered by a recording of a person who apparently was in a cave or a well. The recording said they were closed at this time, which was around 11 am Pacific time. I live in a tiny little village called Seattle. So the nearest Panasonic service center is an hour away. To be followed by going round and round about my warranty.

This is a very good microwave. I've had a couple of Panasonic's and they've always performed well. There is sufficient power and capacity and the menu is easy to navigate. That said, there are a couple of improvements that could be made. For example, the Defrost operation leaves the edges too cooked. Then again, the more expensive version of the microwave claims to take care of them problem. I don't know if it actually does that but I have little to complain about since I could have chosen to buy the more expensive version. A more reasonable complaint has to do with the Sensor Cook operation. In order to pick a particular setting you have to press the button continuously until the number of the desired setting comes up. What I'd really like is if along with the number coming up, the name of the setting would come up also, e.g. Fresh Vegetables. It would make it much easier not to make a mistake. All in all a fairly minor mistake.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  This was the best rated microwave that would fit in my kitchen, and replaced a sharp carousel that stopped working after 5 years. It is maybe 50% noisier, about as loud as the old dishwasher. The interior light is so dim I can’t tell if the oatmeal is about to boil over. The surface is mirrored so I can’t see the time unless I’m looking at the time straight on. Other than that it heats well and evenly.

The microwave works well, fits well on the counter, and is nice and quiet compared to my old model. There is one feature that REALLY annoys me, the keyboard is not illuminated at all, not even a small backlight. The keyboard is even hard to read in a lighted room -- the numbers are a grayish color on a black background and blend in together. The clock shines brightly. I often go into the kitchen when it is very dimly lit or dark to heat up an item and push the wrong buttons! It's very frustrating -- I end up opening the microwave and using the interior light to shed some light on the keyboard, or turn on the kitchen light which irritates me more each time I have to do it! It may seem like a minor inconvenience to some, but it feels like a major flaw to me. It's too much trouble to send it back, or I definitely would! Disappointed!

I hate this microwave so much. The Quick 30 button is far from quick as you still have to press the Start Button. What’s the point of it? There are zero options for a 1 click start. Also I have yet to figure out what the More and Less are supposed to do as they don’t add or subtract time and are thus pointless. Also the light inside is very dim so you have to press your face against the door to see inside. Every time I use this microwave I get angry at how annoying it is to use... the only plus is it’s pretty quiet after the first 5 seconds

We have had this microwave for 1 year and 2 months - the magnetron just went out and the warranty only covers parts after 1 year. I would expect this to last longer than a year so I am giving it a disappointing review. Buyer beware.

When our old Panasonic Microwave died we were thrilled to find the same model offered thru Amazon, however, there was trouble with the light not going out when the door closed and the unit not working from the first time we used it. We contacted Amazon who offered to replace it. My husband reset the microwave and it seemed to work fine for about a week and then the problem with the light started up again and the microwave would not work when the light was on with the door closed. So very disappointed! Will be purchasing a different microwave - this time from Best Buy and it will not be a Panasonic. We have always loved Panasonic products, however, this microwave apparently is flawed.

I've always had a 2.2 cubic foot Kenmore microwave with 1250 watts in the past for my family of four; however, since that size seemed to be out of stock when it quit working I took a chance on this Panasonic 1.2 cubic foot, 1200 watt, with inverter technology. Best thing I ever did! Eventhough it's smaller in size my large 5 liter pyrex pan with glass lid works beautifully. It's simple to use; no program buttons as before; but, with the inverter technology everything comes out so nicely. If you want a big punch for your dollar you can't go wrong with this gem in your kitchen.

Let's face it, I'm old. I was a young wife when microwaves became available for the home kitchen. My first microwave was by Sharp: heavy, clunky, loud, and slow. A top of the line unit, it boasted a whopping 300 watts of power and mostly took up counter space. Oh, it also cost about $500.00. (Don't get me wrong, I've had more recent incarnations of Sharp which were terrific.) My point? I've owned many microwaves over the years. I can tell you that, except for hired help who both cook and clean, nothing beats a microwave with Inverter technology. That's what this as well as my previous three microwaves have featured. No, there was nothing wrong with the previous three units. They just had to be replaced because the coating on the inside was wearing off. I know, doesn't seem like a serious issue, but the guide that comes with microwaves says not to continue using them when this happens. So I don't. This new Panasonic is wonderful. It's a quiet, sleek, and has a touch pad that doesn't require a degree in physics to operate. It reheats a mug of coffee in about 30 seconds; thaws meat I should've pulled out of the freezer for dinner, but forgot; and cooks scrambled eggs like a boss. It also makes popcorn, melts butter and cheese, cooks great bacon, and cooks rice and vegetables without overheating the kitchen. I can easily stack two plates of leftovers to reheat without issue. The Inverter Technology heats quicker and more evenly, so food is hot through, and defrosted meats aren't cooked along the edges and frozen in the middle. I use this unit at least twice a day, and its yet to fail me.

Microwave worked fine until after 2.5 months of use. After that I got the H97 error which is basically a part failed and needs to be replaced. Basically this microwave is defective. I have had cheap brands last longer. Not worth the headache. BTW its loud. Returned this product and went with the Toshiba which I knew I should have done in the first place.

I did a lot of research and just couldn't wait to make an in-store purchase of a new microwave. My 14 year old acts as if heating something up on the stove somehow equates to making a full course meal in the dark ages. It works great; food heats up evenly, which is a totally new microwave experience for me. The sensor option to reheat leftovers really works; that really impressed me. I don't use it often, I just don't...but the others in my house seemingly love it way better than our old one! For <$150 it's a great deal and this one is rated really well, which matters to me.

This replaced an older, better microwave oven that failed after about 10 years. Heating performnce is good, but nothing special. There are some important drawbacks indicative of cost cutting. 1. The noise level is bad. It sounds like the fan or fans are very small and operating at high speed. The sound travels far beyond the kitchen. I don't believe it is defective, just the way it is designed since others also complain about that. 2. The control/user interface is poor. The buttons are hard to read due to poor contrast and not very sensitive, sometimes requiring multiple touches. The sequence and number of presses to get something heated are inefficient. The display is squashed vertically so the characters are shorter than they are wide and poorly legible. 3. This microwave is much lighter weight than the older ones. In combination with the press-to-open door, the microwave slides backwards on the counter. I may have to wedge a block of wood or something behind it to maintain a space in front of the wall. 4. Despite the noisy fan/s, there is not enough exhaust airflow, so the window often fogs up after heating an item.

Very annoyed by the new design. Why in the world would you put a Wave Guide Cover that is removable or easily damaged? My MW arrived with a broken corner of the Wave Guide Cover. The only way to replace it is to send the whole unit back. The reason I ordered this one in the first place was because my original MW was a 26 YEAR OLD Panasonic that finally died. It was easy to use, easy to clean, etc. The design of this one is beyond belief. The rotating plate is easily dislodged because the holder is not designed like the old one. You have to be really careful when you clean NOT to damage the Wave Guide Cover. DUMB! DUMB! DUMB! On top of that I was given the name of a local Panasonic repair person!! I don't know how he qualifies because his phone number doesn't work and the address was a mail box at the local UPS office!! Really???

The microwave was very nice looking, large capacity and easy touch buttons. However, it took WAY more electricity than it was supposed to resulting in popping the circuit breaker almost every time I used it. I even had an electrician come to see what was wrong with my wiring, but he confirmed that the wiring was fine and the microwave was using close to 18 amps! So I had to return it.

I'm giving it two stars because, frankly, it heats food very, very well, and is easy to use. BUT IT WILL KILL YOUR WIFI. I've had many microwaves in my life and unlike many others, I do not believe that they give you cancer or that wind turbines cause migraines. But this microwave, undoubtedly, killed my wifi for *months* before I figured it out. It didn't just interrupt it while it was running, it would overwhelm devices so badly they'd freeze or drop off the network entirely and wait to be rebooted. Consistently it fried my router over and over to the point that I would have to hard-boot it to get it back to life. I even replaced the router thinking that IT had the problem. Look, it makes great food. The defrosting is ok, not great, always more powerful than I needed. Reheat works awesome. But I like my fritter with a side of Facebook, Italian with a side of Instagram, and my pizza rolls with a side of porn. This setup does not support that in any way, shape, or form. So if you are the tech guru in your family and do not want to enter into a two-month-long argument with your spouse that always starts out like, "Why is the INTERNET out, Todd?" "I don't KNOW, Margo!", I would 100% recommend against this particular appliance. For your sake, and everyone else.

This microwave gave out after 9 months of minimal use (purchased in late July 2019, stopped working in early May). The microwave now only gives the dreaded “H98” error. Not only is this microwave garbage now, but Panasonic’s warranty is also garbage. They only cover the repair and where I live I would have to have it shipped to an authorized service center. Panasonic refuses to cover the shipping costs despite that amounting to half the cost of the microwave. Why the customer has to pay 150% of the original cost of the microwave for what was faulty quality control by Panasonic is beyond me.

Inverter microwaves are awesome--power is reduced at lower settings rather than cut off for a period of time. You can reheat certain foods much better at a lower temp (like pasta, veggies, and meat), and don't get all dry around the outside. This is the only inverter microwave I've owned so I don't have a comparison, but if you're looking for a microwave which reheats just about anything well if you use the right settings this one is great! The interface is a bit lame, but it's a microwave--it has a clock and a timer, what more do you want?

Was working properly for awhile, then Wham conked out? Tried resetting panel, nothing. Keeps showing an H98? across screen? Chatted online with associate and wanted me to pay a charge to another website just to ask same question? Why should I pay for tech help? Always do research before buying.

This Panasonic was purchased as a secondary microwave to our main Jenn-Air one over the oven. The glass carousel tray is extremely heavy in this and it never fit correctly on the circular plastic ring. So it was a constant battle putting anything into this microwave to cook, especially anything heavy with a lid, like Corning Ware cookware. Simply defrosting frozen butter for popcorn set it flashing and arcking this week and right into the trash. Bought a nice LG 1.5 which has got to be an improvement over this.

I never write reviews but I don’t want anyone to waste money on this like I did. My husband bought this for me for Christmas and it’s already stopped working. That’s less than five months and we don’t use it excessively or anything like that. It gets used maybe 3 times a week for normal things (steaming veggies, heating leftovers, etc) It already stopped working on me once at the 3 month mark and after viewing various troubleshooting tips and websites, I was able to get it to work. It worked for another month then today quit working completely. I don’t recommend wasting your money on this at all!! I wanted to add that it was still under warranty so I reached out to the company and that was another issue in itself. First off, they had told me that they only had one facility in Texas that handled the repairs of their smaller appliances. I was fine with that, so they shipped me an empty box so that I could ship the product back to them. The address that they were having me ship it to however was in Florida and I ended up having to call them again to verify that it was going to the right place because I was told there was only one facility in Texas. I was informed it had been moved to Florida. I sent the product back in the middle of May. I never received any type of confirmation or anything from them that they even received it. Months went by with no word from them. I didn’t even know if it had made it to the right place. We eventually just broke down and bought a $50 Hamilton Beach microwave because we weren’t sure when ours would be back or if it even would be coming back. One day in November I came home to a big package and it was the microwave. I plugged it in to make sure it actually was fixed and then stuck out in storage because at that point we already had the other microwave and it was working great. I just wanted add a warning to people about my experience with the warranty process. I will never not another product from this company. It’s just been a bad experience all around.

The item I received broke after just over a year of use. When I contacted Panasonic for warranty support, they directed me to the service website. This model is not listed, therefore no support options are available. Do not purchase it as Panasonic will not support it and Amazon won't take it back. It's not a Panasonic product.

We moved into a new house with one of those old over the stove microwaves. In remodeling we did away with that and got a real hood. So I bought this microwave. It came in quickly and well packaged. It works wonderfully. It's a higher wattage and therefore takes less time to cook things. I did burn popcorn because I was too used to the low wattage. I'm really loving it!

The microwave was smaller than I expected but still large enough to suit the needs of 2 retired people. Cooking settings are easy. The "finished" sound is 5 beeps that sound even if you open the door before they are done beeping. Only a little annoying. The beeps are a little quiet for my hard of hearing ears. Again, not a show stopper. Setting the power level is a royal pain. You have to keep pushing the power level button until it gets to the level you want. Other machines let you just choose a number for the power level. The worst part of the machine was that it didn't work long before it failed. We use a microwave every day and expected this one to last longer given the reviews. It was ranked higher when we bought it. It failed once after a week and we reset it it. It worked another week and tonight failed and will not restart. (Yes we checked all circuit breakers and the outlet.) I tried calling the number Amazon gave me for the manufacturer and it was a sales lines for cruises and other things. It was NOT the manufacturer. Disgusting. I requested a refund and will ship it back to Amazon. They, at least, are honest.

This is a great microwave! I moved to a new house a couple of months that had a microwave already. At the old house, I had a great one built-in but the new house was over the counter but it was slow and not powerful enough to heat up anything. After long research, I went with this one and I am extremely impressed. It heats up everything very quickly. The setup and understanding of the user interface is extremely easy. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 star is because it is slightly louder than the previous one I had but not obnoxiously loud. I highly recommend it.

I liked the design but I wasnt aware that this microwave has a mirror like tinted. To have a wife with OCD about cleaning it's a pain. Also, my biggest problem is the noise from it. I had to place something under neath it to balance out noise. Pros: This microwave is very powerful. Warmer, pops or cooks things fast.

I love how this microwave auto adjusts microwave output power automatically for the needs. It lowers the power used until the food/liquid is at a temperature that will absorb the microwaves and then goes to high output. Very efficient way of heating food/liquid. Update: Microwave is still great but causes interference with Bluetooth devices. Have never experienced this issue with other microwaves.

I like the size, the price and the color. Our old microwave was close to 20 years old and showing signs of going out. I bought this one to match my other stainless steel appliances. I like the power level too. It seems to heat plates of leftovers good. The only food I have cooked in it has been potatoes/sweet potatoes. Other than that, we use it to pop popcorn and reheat food. It works great for that.

we bought this in the midst of renovation so I only started using it a couple of months after we bought it. Soon after we started using it, starting became so random. you would hit the start button and nothing would start. I couldn't return it because i was outside of the return window. I call panasonic and they ask me to drop it off to a repair shop in tacoma! seriously? they want me to drive for about 1.5h each way to get a $120 machine fixed? it would cost less to simply buy a new one. This time lesson learned. Never buy electronics from amazon ... if I have to deal with the manufacturer myself ... and needless to say no microwaves from panasonic if their repair way is to send you to other side of the city to fix issues with their machines.

Good microwave so far. I wish the end beep would shut off when you open the door, but only b/c I’m used to my old one doing that. For a couple of days about a month after getting it, the back light on the clock went out. But, then it came back on and has stayed on. It seemed strange. That’s why I gave it four stars. I bought this one b/c consumer reports gave it good ratings.

Bought to replace another Panasonic microwave that had the same functions. Like everything this microwave does. I don't use all the functions but great to know that I can if needed. My old one had a 1 minute button and the new one has it for 30 seconds but that is not a big issue to me. One improvement I noticed is that the light stays on when the door is open. Door also seems to close a little bit easier. Can't ask for anything more on this microwave. I really like the sensor reheat feature. I usually don't have to cook longer so it does take a lot of guesswork out of trying to decide how long to cook and not overcook. Very pleased that they still make this microwave.

I’m now in my third year of owning this microwave and it still looks and works great. As far as the fancy presets to get things just perfect, sorry I’ve never been adventurous enough to use them. Okay I did once but it’s just easier to look at the directions on the box and warm something for four minutes if it says four minutes. Be careful, however, because this microwave really is more powerful than what those cooking directions are based on. My main reason for buying this was I thought it would look good on my dark granite kitchen countertops and it does look very good on a dark granite countertop.

I am a nerd when it comes to researching appliances before I buy. I haven't had a microwave for about 10 years. I never did more than melt butter and pop popcorn. When I researched how Panasonic holds several patents. One is that the inverter allows the constant flow of heat. ALL other microwaves can only approximate this. It is truly modern technology. It seems a little noisy but mine is currently sitting on the countertop 10 feet from where I am most of the time when it is on. Several independent review labs rated it number 1. Amusingly I have really enjoyed the feature that has presets for popcorn. I don't mean the one where press popcorn and then listen for the popping to slow before you remove this "vegetable." This Panasonic has the preset (shared by a few other brands) where you select popcorn and it allows you to further select the ounces. I literally have less than 10 kernels un-popped. The only negative...I am building a new home and there is no trim kit for this model. Disappointed but I will have to approximate one.

Listen, I'm not the kind of person to write angry product reviews. I try to be an informed consumer, I research products before buying them, and I try not to assign blame where it isn't deserved. But my experience with this microwave was ridiculous. Setup of the microwave out of the box was painless, pop the rotating tray inside, plug it in, you're good to go. The sensor heating worked well, operation was reasonably quiet, no complaints! ...for four days. On day five when attempting to defrost some hamburger, the microwave stopped working 30 seconds into a cycle and the display said "H97." A quick look in the user manual said of this error simply: Contact Panasonic Support. And here my troubles began. Panasonic's support website is labyrinthine, and does not list a support phone number. The first point of contact I could find was a live support chat. Clicking on the support chat link gave me a DNS error saying that the server could not be reached. I eventually figured out that the support chat line is only operated from Monday to Friday during Eastern Seaboard business hours, and outside of those hours they just... turn off the web server? Keep in mind that this is an international consumer electronics giant. Attempt #2 was when I found a separate page on the Panasonic website for making a service/repair request. Emailing the repair request email generated an automated email saying that I would get a reply within 48 hours. 48 hours later, I received an email telling me to call their support phone number, the one that was not listed anywhere on their website. But whatevs, I passed their first temple guard and now I had the magic number. I called the number, an automated voice told me that I could expect a 30 minute wait before hearing a human voice, and that I might be charged a $9.95 service fee just for calling them(!?). Ok, I'll fight that battle when I get there. I follow through a nesting doll of "Press 1 for X, Press 2 for Y," until I get to a menu for "Consumer Microwaves that display an H97 error." Jackpot! I Press 1. The automated response is, "Visit the service request webpage to submit a repair request ticket. Have a nice day." Listen, I'm not a luddite who is scared of phone robots. I know they serve a useful function by funneling calls to the appropriate channels of large corporations with millions of customers. But this particular phone robot made me want to travel back in time to 1995 and kill Dr. Myles Dyson before he can invent Skynet. I return to the computer the next day and try the support chat once more, making sure that I'm doing it during "banker's hours." The website does work this time, and I'm connected with what I'm fairly convinced was a human being. After asking the basic support questions, "model number, when did you buy it, did you try turning it off and on again," I was given this stupendous piece of advice. By a paid human employee. Of the Panasonic Corporation, formerly Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd., established 1918. "I suggest you just return it to Amazon for a refund and buy another one." Listen, I believe in science. I feel I know enough about electronics manufacturing to understand that sometimes, every once in a while, an appliance or device can be shipped with a defect, a bad inverter or a weak fuse. I know that my experience with Panasonic microwaves is not going to be a universal experience. Someone else's Panasonic microwave might last for twenty years without a lick of trouble. But know that if you ever do experience a problem with your Panasonic microwave, and if you attempt to seek support from the Panasonic Corporation, you will be drawn into a Kafkaesque customer service nightmare that will make you want to brick yourself up in the wall of a Catholic Church and become an anchorite. I did return it to Amazon. I did receive a refund. I'm not buying another one.

We bought this microwave 4 months ago and only started using it 3 months ago. It started not heating stuff and the outside of it started getting extremely hot. It’s unusable. We'll have to buy a new one. We are EXTREMELY disappointed. DO NOT BUY THIS MICROWAVE!

The microwave was working great until it didn't. It happened only 1.5 months after we bought it. Suddenly the screen went blank (we weren't using the microwave when that happened) and it won't turn on when connected to electricity. We have checked and the outlets are still working. That's very disappointing seeing that our previous microwaves worked for many years without any problems. I did not expect this from Panasonic.

I purchased this microwave in December of 2017. Within six months, the paint started chipping off along the seams inside the microwave. I am the only person using this microwave and have always been extra careful using my appliances and following the manufacturer's instructions about usage and care. So after applying appliance repair touch-up paint it was acceptable as it covered the chips and rust that started to form. Well, it was ok only for about a month when the touch-up paint chipped away again and spread even further. Today, October 2019, I got the error message H97 which means and I quote from the manual "The oven's power supply has failed please contact an authorized Service Center". We, as consumers, all know what this means (expressing this politely) the customer is just plain out of luck and out of $170.00! DO NOT PURCHASE THIS MICROWAVE.

I use a microwave pretty much daily, since I cook a lot and have frozen meats on hand and love leftovers. While it did defrost meat and other frozen things well, I was never in love with this microwave. Its controls weren’t very intuitive and often required the manual to be close at hand. And now, it hasn’t even been 3 years, and it died. Pros: - Pretty powerful; it heated things up quickly. - Good defrosting: I liked the relative ease of specifying how much of a thing I was defrosting (you can indicate as little as 0.1 lb) and it defrosted evenly for the most part. - Spacious. You can put an 11” casserole in there no problem. Cons: - Beyond just heating and defrosting, controls are pretty complicated and I had to have the manual nearby because one can’t possibly be expected to remember which number stood for cooking potatoes, softening butter, warming a cold pastry, etc. - The interior light doesn’t go on when you open the door. It’s only on while cooking. You might not think this is a big deal, but it really is annoying when you open the door to look at your food and check how it’s going, and you can’t even see it! - The “Quick Minute” function requires you to push “Start” after pushing it. Again, it doesn’t seem like a big deal, but it’s counter-intuitive from all other microwaves’ functionality. This button also only works on the fly if the microwave is on. If you open the door mid-cook to check on your food (in the dark!), and you think it’s not quite ready so you go to add a minute, it does nothing. You have to close the door, push “Start” again, and then push the “Quick Minute” button. Again, these are all minor, but Panasonic wasn’t thinking about how all other microwaves work or something when they made this interface. - Another interface quirk: power level needs to be entered *before* cooking time. If you put the cooking time in first and then pushed “Power Level,” it did something other than change the power level (I forget what exactly). And to choose a power level, you had to push the power level button repeatedly to get to the level you wanted (e.g. if you wanted 60%, or Level 6, you had to push the “Power Level” button four times - it went backward from 10!). Why not allow you to push one digit to indicate the level?? Very weird. - Apparently not long-lived. Mine wasn’t quite 3 years old, and it is now a late microwave. It is not pining for the fjords; it has ceased to be. Now I have to buy a new microwave. I think I will go with a Toe Shee Ba one or one that rhymes with Ham-Hung (I’m being crafty so competitor names don’t get removed), as these also have good reviews. Good luck, all!

Had this microwave for less than 6 months and it was working fine until this morning when I was warming up butter in a glass dish and suddenly there was flames and smoke coming out of it. The inner door had caught on fire !! I read the reviews of other people's catching on fire but I didn't believe them or thought it was a rare occurrence. ITS NOT. Don't get this microwave, it's faulty!! And amazon does not care to provide a refund, and Panasonic is uncooperative. Trust me, go with another company for a microwave.

I had originally purchased a 1100 watt Panasonic microwave after my Frigidaire started making noises after only a few days. That one had a hard to see keypad. This 1,200 watt microwave oven is very easy to use and has the 0-9 numerical keypad. The inverter helps to heat and defrost foods more evenly. It's pretty quite (It's a bit louder than my old 1,000 watt oven, especially when using turbo inverter defrost but not an issue for me). It's easy to clean fir being stainless steel on the front of door and door opening button. Fingerprints or smudges wipe away easily. The only thing that I don't like about it is the reminder feature to remind you that your food is defrosted or heated through. If you're busy cooking something else ir doing whatever, it doesn't have the intermittent beeping to let you know it's done, it just goes straight to clock time. Other than that I've had zero issues.

It worked fine for the first 4 months and one week. Then I noticed a lot of smoke in the microwave while cooking. I opened the door and observed that a section of the top of the inside compartment had been completely BURNED AWAY. There is a huge black hole on the internal ceiling of the microwave. I am never buying a Panasonic product again. After all, their safety engineers/regulators/inspectors must work on other Panasonic products as well.

Considering most of the positive reviews for this product, the one I purchased must be a rare lemon. There are several issues it's having. For one thing, it appears to be leaking a lot of radiation as well as heat. We did the cell phone test (which Panasonic's support website says isn't accurate) and all calls went through to and from the inside of the oven. Also, when the oven is on, it will disrupt our home wireless network, affecting cell phone, iPad and Apple TV using wireless signal. The latter is affected even though it's 10 feet away and behind a wall from the microwave. Range for disrupting the iPad has been around 6 feet. The oven gets very hot on top when operating for a minute or more and water vapor can be seen condensing and evaporating around the edges of the closed door. And finally, this oven is very noisy. That seems minor compared to the radiation issue. Anyway, I'm going to replace this oven with a Kenmore, which is what I had previous to the Panasonic and which had none of these issues. It's too late to return this oven and I'm not going to foist this on an unsuspecting Goodwill customer, so I'll take it to recycling.

The box and external casing and cosmetic appearance looked ok, once connected to power there was a popping, clicking and grinding sound internally. In less than one minute my entire kitchen went black and powerless. The microwave shorted out my entire kitchen. It was necessary to call out an electrician to correct the damage. Returned the product to Amazon.

The microwave works ok, but not any better than the cheaper models. I bought this because it had "sensor cook". Every time I have used this feature I have stopped it because my food was getting over cooked. If I use the sensor cook it is usually for servings of 1-4. The sensor defrost works ok, but will still cook edges just like any other microwave Ive used. I HATE the quick minute feature. You ALWAYS have to push start afterwards. The popcorn setting works ok. I will say the 1200 watts does heat a little faster than my old 1100 but when it comes to reheating my coffee we are talking a difference of 10-15 seconds. I only use this for some reheating, popcorn and defrosting. I don't do major cooking in it, so if I had it to do over I would have bought another $60 microwave.

I purchased this microwave in October 2018. In May 2019, while still under warranty, the microwave has stopped functioning. It will run for a few seconds and then shuts off. I tried trouble shooting online and with the manual and have contacted Panasonic Customer Support. I was instructed to bring the microwave to their closest repair shop (50 miles from my house). I brought it in for service on June 1st. I was informed that the microwave was fixed by the repair shop, drove the 50 miles (each way) to pick it up on June 10th and then on June 12th, it started having the exact same problem. I called the repair shop and also replied to the Panasonic Customer Support email chain. I received no response as of June 18th. I tried contacting Panasonic on June 14th via their online chat (which was 'down') and their phone lines (which were also 'down'). On June 18th I was able to connect with a Panasonic live chat representative who escalated the chat to a supervisor who requested my original claim number and replied that they usually get back within 2-3 business days. All in all, ABSOLUTE WORST customer service I have ever experienced from any company. It is impossible to get through to them on the phone, difficult to get through over live chat and their response time via email is appalling. DO NOT BUY THIS MICROWAVE. I have had microwaves that were nowhere near this price point that have lasted me years whereas this one stopped working after 7 months, while still under warranty. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER.

This microwave heats food super fast... except in the middle of the platter. And I don't mean it leaves the center of a big chunk of lasagne cold, I mean something flat like a slice of pizza ends up cold in the middle. I have NEVER seen a microwave that fails to heat the middle of a slice of pizza before. For frozen dinners that require stirring in the middle of the cooking time, this almost always means you have to break up a big chunk of frozen food in the middle of the dish in order to stir it. MUCH larger than in other microwaves I've used. The user interface is like something from the 90s. To put it on half power you have to press the power button 6 times. So, for example, to reheat a couple slices of pizza at half power for 4 minutes requires 10 button presses. My last microwave (from 2004!) took 3. And if you accidentally put the time in before you set the power level you have to reset and start over. The "Sensor Cook" feature forces you to look up (or memorize) the correct "recipe" in the Sensor Cook Chart so you can enter its number. This means I have to keep the manual (or a printout of the chart) on top of the microwave as a reference. Really seems like we could come up with a better interface in 2019. It also lacks a "beverage" setting or recipe. So, all in all, it's not a TERRIBLE microwave, but if you want even heating or sensor cooking without needing a reference chart, I would look elsewhere. If I had bought this at Costco I would return it, but having bought it here, it's not QUITE bad enough for me to package it back up to ship it back.

We bought one of these units in December 2013. It worked as expected until we noticed that the paint on the inside of the unit was flaking off. Being out of warranty we bought another one in March 2018. Now, after less than a year the interior paint on the new unit is flaking off. While this one is still in warranty their customer service is non-existent. Unless you want Chinese paint in your food try another brand. I'm finished with Panasonic. They, like so many others, used to be a great company. Now I have to go through the hassle of "properly disposing" of this piece of junk.

I wouldnt recommend this for a small countertop, it is a bit noisy but the watts on this microwave is amazing. You mostly likely will cut your heating time as I've noticed. You WILL need to cook your food in intervals (i.e. if your are doing 1 min. I would do 30 secs then another 30 sec) as the microwave is so strong it will heat the outside and sides of foods quicker than center if not mixed.

I would never buy one of these again. For years we had a Sharp brand microwave which was cheap and simple and did all we needed: reheating foods and heating liquids and occasionally thawing meat. I’m not too impressed with the automatic settings on this one and find it rather complicated. However, my main complaint is the rotating turntable. In the Sharp, the roller support was a three pronged device that fit into hole in the bottom of the microwave and had to be lifted up to be removed. In this Panasonic it’s a ring with rollers with little wheels and the turntable sits on a sort of gear in the center. It takes very little to knock the turntable off of the center and it’s very difficult to put the glass turntable back on without knocking the ring out of alignment. My husband refuses to even try!

I purchased this item in 2016. Yesterday evening I was cooking a frozen entree that required 4:30 min to cook, but 2 minutes into the cooking I heard it make a pop thump type of sound. Luckily I was close by. I rushed into the kitchen, opened the microwave and Black smoke came billowing out. I immediately unplugged it. All sides were extremely hot to the touch. I grabbed the entree and put it in the sink and doused it with water. My security alarm company installed fire alarms went off, and sent the fire department. ADT Security, thanks soo much. The fire department arrived and they removed the microwave from my house, along with the charcoal black wet entree. I was shaken and scared to say the least. My dog was terrified. Thank god the fire department was sent over, they had to open doors and set up fans to get all the smoke out of my house! This was only 3 years old. I live alone, so it doesn’t get a lot of use. It could have been worse, if I had not been close by, it could have caught my house on fire. I still have a residual smoke smell in my house! Not happy at all!

Seems to work fairly well for most purposes. Very quiet. Heats a bit faster than my older microwave, but I'm not sure the Inverter Technology does any good. Heating is not noticeably more even than my 35-year-old microwave, and I'm not sure if the sensor does much either--it may prevent overheating of items, but that doesn't mean they are fully heated when the microwave stops. It loses one star because the alleged good features I pay extra for don't seem to have much benefit. It loses another 1/2 star because the cord is very short so I had to use an extension to reach the nearest outlet. They seem to think we will always put these on a counter within 2 feet or so of an outlet, but we don't all have outlets every four feet, and some of us use a separate cart or stand for the microwave. It loses the final 1/2 star because it doesn't cook popcorn well and there are no directions at all for how to cook popcorn unless you use one of the stupid pre-bagged popcorn packets that are loaded with bad ingredients. No directions for cooking just kernels, regardless of what type of bowl or microwave popcorn maker you use. The popcorn setting doesn't work for regular kernels. Only by reading reviews of popcorn makers did I learn to try other techniques like reducing the power and moving the container off-center. That info should have been in the directions so I wouldn't have burned several batches trying to get it to work. You need to pay very close attention when cooking popcorn. Try reducing power to 8 (which is a little more hassle to do than it should be), but there doesn't seem to be an exact formula--cooking time still varies from one batch to the next, so watch, listen, and smell carefully.

Bought this microwave on January 2017, paid $152.84. When we first received it we noticed that the light would flicker when the microwave was on, assumed the sight was lose and we used it like that. Today Feb.,2019 i was warming vegetable and it smelled burned, i opened the microwave and the vegetables were cold and there was smoke coming out of the light vent. I waited for it to cool off and tried again later in the day and in less then 20 seconds it started smoking again. I have never had this happen with a microwave before. Very disappointed in this product, will not buy a Panasonic microwave again.

I bought this in September, 2016, and tonight, February 15, 2019, almost two and one half years later, it almost caught fire, the previous microwave did catch fire, same brand and model. I only use it to heat food, so it didn't get heavy usage, but a few minutes every day. I now have to look for another, but it will not be this brand.

Bought the first of this model around 2014, second one jan 2019 after a kid overcooked a cookie in it (5 minutes) and I couldn’t get the burnt smell out. (Clearly NOT the fault of the microwave oven!) Amazon reviews did not convince me that any improvements had been made to inverter ovens in the past 5 years, so I did not try an upgrade. Why tamper with a good thing? My prior oven (and my new one) never had even a hint of trouble. Especially like it for heating things like the morning oatmeal, which is easy to dial to 50% strength for 5 minutes, and it never oveflows (on other / prior microwaves that are not inverters, the oatmeals bubbles up then down then up then down and eventually over the top.) I’m sorry, I never used fancy features except defrost, which worked extremely well also. Incidently, it is possible to set this oven to be completely silent — need to follow the instruction sheet. I don’t mind the loud beeps when you push every button, and the five loud beeps when it’s done (even opening the door doesn’t stop the 5 beeps) but I could imagine people being annoyed. The microwave is not silent when it’s on, but not too loud, a sort of whirring sound. Wish the plug in back were a flat plug, but you can buy a flat plug angle piece if you need the room. If the (3 prong) outlet is directly behind this oven, count on placing this mcrowave oven 2-3/4 inches from the wall. Otherwise, it can go flat against the wall (depth is 15-1/2”, counting a rectangular area projecting out in back.) enjoy.

I've had Panasonic microwaves for years. I even used them for cooking. I have been thru 4 total the last two months...ALL returned. I even went to a 1250 Watt Panasonic. It's getting worse too. I'm real sorry I got ride of my old Panasonic. The only difference I could tell in different Watts was the unit size. The power was the same. I''m so thankful Amazon and Walmart gave me a full refund. I can't box and unbox or put them in place and paid $40..00 or $50.00 to have that done. If one would have worked right it wouldn't have been so bad.

Description says stainless, but it is painted. Description says 1200 watts, yet it takes longer to boil a cup of water than my 10 tear old 1000 watt microwave. Very annoying "quick" 30sec button requires the start button to be pressed after each entry. The internal cavity coating seems quite thin, so thin that it will likely allow rust to form. The unit rattles as if the screws are loose.

The product was great and worked great until it died without warning after about 11 months of use. According to Panasonic support website, the only way to get warranty service in the U.S. is the ship the thing to Texas at my expense, meaning weeks without a microwave and paying a sizeable chunk of the cost of a new microwave in shipping fees. I am very disappointed in the reliability if what I thought was a good brand.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video.  I purchased this microwave as a gift for my parents last Christmas (2017). It has worked well until recently, and my mom really liked all the features it has. In the last few months; however, it would occasionally act like it was going to start up, with the light and timer working, but would not start the heating element, and then shut down completely after 1-2 seconds. It would start up correctly when you tried again, so it wasn't a huge problem. Tonight it failed completely. It will no longer heat, but simply "starts" with the light and timer going for a couple of seconds and then completely shut down. We have tried unplugging it, holding the door shut tight, and resetting it with the stop/reset button, and nothing works. The microwave my parents had prior to this one lasted them 40 years, and while I didn't anticipate that kind of longevity from this one, I did expect years before it bit the dust, not months. I expected better from this unit based on the fact that Panasonic used to be a pretty good brand, and the decent reviews that it has received.

We've only had this NN-SN6865 Microwave oven for a few days. First impression, the fan is LOUD. I can hear it from all around the house. Hopefully the trade-off will be long life because the components inside will be kept cool. Second impression, I did not realize that there wasn't a "Beverage" button on the control panel. There's no "Beverage" setting in the programming, none in the manual, none I could find online. I even called Panasonic "support" only to be told that they could not advise me how to heat beverages. Without a doubt, beverages (left-over coffee, forgotten tea, etc) make up a good 1/3 of my microwave use. I ended up testing mugs of water with a timer and thermometer to determine how long to set the machine to run. I make M/W popcorn twice a year, but my cold coffee, that's every day! Really miss that button. This is my second Panasonic M/W, and the first one had a beverage button, too bad the thing died after about 11 years. Hope this one lasts at least that long.

Here is the chronology of my experience with three different models of panasonic microwaves, including this model. I had a circa 2007 version of today's panasonic NN-SN966S-1.6cu (sorry, I don't remember if the model number was the same in 2007) which ran absolutely fine till October, 2014. I had to recycle it since it rusted from inside, otherwise no technical issues. I was pretty happy with that product and so went for panasonic again. In October 2014, I got a NN-SA661S-1.2cu from WalMart at $110. This one failed in August 2015 with error code H98 (i.e failure in Magnetron circuit). Luckily, it was under the 1-year limited warranty so the Magnetron was replaced by panasonic service center with free labor & parts. In July 2017, it failed again with error code H98. Since it is no longer under warranty, so I dumped it this time. Next, I wanted to buy a better one which would last longer, and I landed up in NN-SN686S. It looked a bit premium than the earlier model, so I wanted to give a shot at panasonic again. We got this one from amazon at $141 in August 2017. After 14 months, it failed last week (20th October 2018) with error code H98. Our usage is pretty light (not used for cooking but only for warming foods) and we maintained it well, so didn't expect it to fail so soon. I called up Panasonic customer care to check if they would cover the repair, because Magnetron is under 5 year warranty (but labor is limited to 1 year). The automated voice assistant said that it will charge $10 for any out-of-warranty products. I was fine with that too, but panasonic customer care never landed me to a human. I tried with panasonic support live chat, which does not work at all. Basically don't expect any customer support from panasonic. So, I called up the panasonic service center which is now located 20 miles away. They said Magnetron is covered but labor will be $65 and they accept carry-in for repairs only Mon-Wed. I haven't decided yet if I would take this route.... Neverthless, it seems none of the recent panasonic models run longer than 12-15 months. There is definitely a durability issue of the magnetrons. So, if you want to buy a panasonic microwave, consider it as 1 year investment (i.e the warranty period of panasonic). Here is an update. The panasonic service center charged $25 to diagnose the issue. The inverter is burnt out completely. The inverter is not covered by warranty and the price to replace it is additional is $162. The total cost $162 + $25 = 187 is more than the price of the microwave. The inverted burnt out which is not covered by warranty. So I dumped it. Will never buy Panasonic in my lifetime.

Our old Panasonic died after nearly daily use for 15 years. I did a lot of research on Amazon, and found this one. We have white appliances in our home, and it was nice to find another white one. One caveat: I drove a Semi for 16 years over the road. I made my own coffee in truck stops and used their microwaves. I've used about every kind of micro you can imagine, so I am using that knowledge reviewing this one. Overall, this is a great unit. That being said, it didn't sit level on the counter and I had to shim the front rubber foot so it didn't wobble. You would think quality control would find things like this out. The door does open by pressing a button, which I thought would be a deal killer, as I've seen units with broken buttons, hard to push, etc, etc. This one is very smooth and easy to push, and the door swings open easily and nearly fully, so you can still hold the dish in one hand and open the oven with the other. Now, the main reason I bought this besides the color, was it's nearly the same as the old one we had, so the learning curve on how to use it was very flat. The buttons are arranged a little differently, but that's not a big deal. Cooking however, is vastly changed. It cooks much hotter and faster than the old one, and following the instructions on the package produced an almost burnt dinner. (I do the cooking and we don't eat a lot of pre-packaged meals, but heating veggies, coffee, etc is the primary use.) My wife said she reheated her coffee and the sensor part worked great and the coffee was just the right temp. The ring under the glass tray is smaller, but the trays are the same size, so we're keeping the old one just in case. Other than the above, it's really a nice oven, works as it should, and looks nice in our kitchen, at a reasonable price. Bon Appetite.

It works well, isn't too noisy, and the "inverter technology" keeps small portions/greasy things from spattering during the "on" portion of a standard on/off cycle. However getting to a low-power mode is clumsy - one must repeatedly tap a button to lower the power 10% at a time, and once the microwave is started there's no indication of what power setting(s) it's on. The various special-program keys are not well-differentiated. The "Quick Minute" feature requires at least two taps - one (or more) to add the minutes and another to start the oven. Why couldn't the first tap start the oven immediately?

The microwave was quickly delivered in good condition. Be sure to read the start up instructions. Many people said they don't like the beeping when pressing buttons and this CAN be turned off. The light is on when its running and when the door opens. The sound is no louder than my old GE that died. The look is smart and so far I am happy with the operation. The only issue I have is that it doesn't have a quick 30 second button, only a quick minute so you need to put less time in manually or adjust the power down lower. Over all I am happy and would buy it again provided it lasts as expected.

Admittedly we used these microwaves in a restaurant so they get high use so we only expect them to last 12-18 months, but I received two of these on August 5, 2018. The first visibly caught on fire and we could see the flames on August 16th (11 days of use), the second died today, 08/25/18 and while we couldn't see flames smoke and the smell of burning were very apparent. I most definitely should have spent the extra $60 per microwave as my Sharp Countertop Microwave Oven ZR651ZS 2.2 cu. ft. 1200W Stainless Steel with Sensor Cooking which I bought two of in December 2017 are both still in use in the same application.

My previous microwave died and after doing a lot of research on line, I decided to purchase this one. I've had it about 3 months now and really like it. It's super easy to use, and after a week or so I learned I could just punch in a number (for seconds) and hit the start button. Prior to that, I was using the "quick minute" button and then hitting "stop/cancel" after counting down a few seconds. The reason for using "seconds" to heat up something is because my very spoiled puppy likes her dinner slightly warmed. A minute was way TOO hot. This is a powerful microwave when it comes to re-heating things and I've learned to cut down the time compared to my old microwave. Same for cooking. I love the exterior size (true to the dimensions given in the description) and it is very spacious inside. My older model was much bigger (exterior) - but the revolving glass tray from it is exactly the same as this one. Now I have a spare if I break one. I'm very happy with this purchase and do recommend this model.

So far, I really love this microwave's features. I was worried because of bad reviews about poor customer service and product breaking soon after delivery. I have only had it a few weeks so I still worry that it will break as in other reviews. But for now, I love it. Easy to set and easy to use. the defrost wonderful because it runs full time at 30% rather than running at 100% power for 30% of the time to defrost. Sensor reheating has been perfect. No problems at all. Since other reviews were so negative about repair problems, I truly hope I got a good one and not a lemon. If it keeps working the way it has.......I will continue to be thrilled. The inverter technology and sensor technology is well worth the extra cost.

This is an update of my earlier review: I did drive to south Seattle, and the repairman said it was a locking mechanism problem, which he fixed. The microwave has worked well since--it's now 16 months old--but a week ago, I noticed a flap of white plastic hanging down from the "ceiling" of the oven. The oven still works, although I have no idea if it is safe to use. I had purchased a "protection plan," but it turns out that only mechanical and electrical failures are covered, not physical self-destruction..... The earlier review: I liked this small, speedy microwave a lot for the first couple of months after I bought it, roughly 9 months ago. Then it started not always working. I would set the time and push Start and nothing would happen. I found that if I worked the latches up and down a few times and tried again, it often would begin working. Sometimes I would have to jimmy the latches several times before it would work -- and then itwould work just fine for days or weeks. A few days ago I was talking to my daughter on my cellphone while standing perhaps 6 feet from the microwave while it was running, and the interference was terrible. Today I performed the test where you put your cellphone in the microwave and get someone to call you. If the phone doesn't ring, the microwave isn't admitting radiation and therefore presumably radiation can't get out either. My phone rang -- which is not good. Perhaps I could get the oven repaired as it is still under warranty. But when the problem started occurring, I learned that the nearest Panasonic-approved repair shop is a goodly drive away and open 5 hours a day, 5 days a week. I thought maybe this was my punishment for having purchased a microwave online, but when I checked with my local Home Depot, I learned that they don't take responsibility for the appliances they sell, either, so I'd still have to drive to south Seattle if I'd bought the microwave from them. I don't know what I will do, and I don't know what you should do either.

Have had it a month--so far so good as far as durability. Will report if any problems as others have reported. Easy to use and helpful functions. Heats almost 2x as fast as our old Amana microwave so the upgrade was well worth it. Happy with the evenness of cooking--it's as even as I would expect a microwave to be (which is nothing like convection cooking). To set the power level to less than high (10) you have to press the power level button as many times as steps lower than 10 you want. So level 5 takes 5 pushes. Would have been nice to choose the power level using the keypad but a minor detail. Be sure to take off the almost invisible plastic film from the keypad and clock. ** UPDATE ** Have had it 2 years now (Apr. '20) and no problems. ** UPDATE ** Have had it a year now (Mar. '19) and no problems. The inverter technology seems to work very well: when choosing a power level less than max the microwave power is reduced rather than cycling between max output and off. The lower microwave power (as opposed to cycling) seems to make heating more even--there's no spattering--which is what happens when cycling between max and off. Defrost works well too. As mentioned before a microwave can't duplicate a convection oven but this performs as well as I would want in a microwave.

Our old microwave that my wife had in college (1992) finally died. We did a bunch of searching and researching and ended up with this one - which we knew seemed similar to our older one, but when it came, realized it was simply a newer version. At first I was a bit bummed, but then I realized, the old one worked simple and was great. We don't use many of the "sweet" features they try to sell you on. But it warms things up. It defrosts things. It will keep things warm. It works well and is big enough for most things that our family of 7 eats.

I admit I can sound like Abraham Simpson from time to time, ranting about the good old days when appliances lasted practically forever and were repairable when they weren't, but this time it's justtified. I grudgingly began the online shopping process for a new microwave after the 10 year old unit (a hand me down from my grandparents that replaced my prior 15 year old unit) finally quit, and as is often the case, nearly every unit whose reviews I checked (not just this brand, but also Sharp and others) all reported a high number of D.O.A. units or premature failures. Well, with trepidation I ordered this touchpad unit which arrived promptly and well packed, and I was initially thrilled with its special features like sensor reheat, as I cautiously placed it into service. Something told me I should "save the box". Sure enough, after four delightful uses, most with sensor reheat, and certainly less then ten minutes cook time, the unit failed utterly with an "H98" error code (bad Magnetron/Inverter circuit), and won't recover. So after just a few days, it is back in the (original, saved) shipping box, and lugging it to UPS for a return. Dagnabbit they just don't make 'em like they used to.

We got this microwave today. After unpacking and setting up, I noticed the control panel is hard to see unless you are almost nose-to-nose or looking at it from a diagonal angle. The light white lettering against a pale grey background is very hard to see. The lettering should have been, for example, white against a black background for maximum visibility. I am really surprised that Panasonic either didn't customer test this feature, or if they did, they ignored it as it is OBVIOUS. I would request they create a upgrade accessory that would fit over the existing space to correct this issue. Very disappointed as this is the primary contact area you have with the microwave. Other features worked OK.

Nothing could be better than this inverter technology microwave. In case you don't know what that is, when you set a power level, the power level is the same ALL DURING COOKING !! Without this feature, if you select 50% power level, 100% power is applied 50% of the time and so on for other power levels so food item doesn't have a consistent amount of heating applied to it. Non-inverter microwaves overheat the food and them let them cool down so you don't get a steady amount cooking energy applied.

I chose white--looks exactly as shown. It has cook sensor-- choose the number of the food type from the legend inside the door(see my pic), push start--no guessing, cooks it perfectly. Has sensor rewarm, also. The timer alerts bother some people (sleeping babies, etc)-- you can program them not to ring. Light comes on when door opens, is on when cooking--can see food. Spacious interior. Can choose a delay start, can preprogram cooking stages (so many minutes at this power then so many minutes at another power-- I think you can program cooking pauses, too). Can choose "keep warm" up to 30 minutes . Was light enough for this senior lady to unpack and place on shelf over the stove. The only thing it can't do is crisp--those micros cost way more, are bigger, and too heavy for my shelf. I love this one and the price is good. Prime=no delivery fee. Ps: any negative reviews about bubbling of the button handle--the person probably didn't remove the protective cling film which you can't see at first.

We have had this product for a year now. The DAY it went out of warranty, it started to act very oddly. The food stayed cold, but the microwave itself go too hot to touch on the outside. It made a crackling noise and the lights dimmed in the microwave, and it blew the GFCI plug. The fact that the exterior of this microwave got so hot, tells me it is unsafe. Panasonic want nothing to do with us as we are just out of warranty. For a relatively expensive product, it does not deliver and has some serious safety concerns (see other reviews). We will not buy panasonic again.

I've had the microwave for 3 months and it's starting to fail. I thought it was a fluke the first time but now almost every time I try to use it, it acts like it is going to work and then just stops and resets itself. After just 3 MONTHS! That's horrible! I was limited in what kind of microwave I could buy based on the space in my kitchen cabinets and this one fit perfectly AND good descent reviews. It worked great for the first 2 months. I'll reach out to Panasonic for warranty support, I really hope they stand behind their product. I'll update if they are helpful.

1) Buttons too hard to read (should be bright white, not gray letters/numbers) 2) First use instructions don't even work! -- bad quality control for instructions Turning off beep does not work (section "Using the Microwave for the First Time", item #3). (Web searches confirm the beep cannot be turned off, contrary to instructions). Toggling kg-lb does not work (section "Using the Microwave for the First Time", item #2). This microwave is also much louder than my 15 year same size one (not to mention the rattling noise). Loud enough to be unusable.

The microwave turntable stopped rotating within an year. Fortunately, it was within the warranty limit, so contacted Panasonic tele-support. They generated a case number and I was supposed to hear from the nearby support team within 24 to 48 hours but still waiting after 3 weeks even. The Panasonic online chat support is not responsive as well. I have contacted Amazon support and returning the product.

This microwave was good. While it lasted. The final time we used it, it flashed a bright light and a acrid black smoke poured out of it. It was 21 months old. Our previous Panasonic microwave lasted 26 years. Admittedly, microwaves do not last long these days, but I certainly expected a much longer lasting product from Panasonic. The replacement was a Samsung from Walmart. We bought the 2 year replacement warranty for $14,

I am still in the learning stage of this new type of cooking and am happy with everything I have done with it. Have overcooked more things than I had hoped to but have had great success with most. One thing it did was to make me buy some microwave cookware and I am extremely happy with this advantage that I am now using. I really just needed a new one as mine was relatively inexpensive and old so since I was buying it I decided to try something new and the price was lower than any other I saw with this new feature.. The fact is --I am 95 years old and have difficulty with any of this new technology. I also live alone and have no young folks in my family to help me figure out technical problems, So, I recommend it 100% for people who are mostly young and tech. savvy unless you are curious and want to do what you can to keep up with this wonderful world and what the heck it only cost a little bit more and you can do as I often do , just use it like the old fashioned one. model.

Just received this microwave yesterday so I cannot really say how long it will last. After reading countless reviews, we decided to get Panasonic brand again based on our experience with our former microwave which was also a Panasonic purchased in August 2008. It still runs, we never experienced any problems with it and the only reason we decided to get a new one was because we just had our kitchen remodeled and are transitioning to stainless steel appliances. Our former microwave was 1.6 cu ft. We decided to get a smaller one since we use it mostly for reheating leftovers or microwaveable items. Some reviews mentioned problems with the lack of light inside, wifi interference, etc. This microwave has a light that comes on when you open the door and while the food is being cooked and so did our former one. I have not noticed any wifi interference. The door latch seems to work very well, no problems with the keypad. We noticed the microwave moved a bit when we opened the door, so we put a non skid mat under it and that solved the problem. This is called stainless steel, but actually the case is more of a silvery grey non shiny color. The door latch and the bottom of the door are a shinier metal which may be stainless steel. The window on the door is more of a black mirrored finish which will probably require a bit more care to keep clean and smear free.It looks great on our counter and if it works as well as our former one, we will be happy.

We bought this model for the inverter feature to defrost frozen food better, and that did work pretty good (at least better than a regular microwave). HOWEVER, the inverter died just inside the 1 year warranty. Panasonic was great about getting it repaired and a local service provider repaired it while we waited. It worked great for about six months more and then the inverter just died again. Now, out of warranty, the cost is $110 to repair it. What would you do? It's a shame we've come down to such disposable appliances these days.

We recently got this model at work and I really liked it. 1200watts, silent/beepless mode, what's not to like? I ordered one and got it in a timely manner. Turned out to be a dud. After less than 90 seconds into a cooking cycle it completely shuts down. No clock, nothing. Amazon is great as always and quickly sends me a replacement. It too turns out to be a dud. Same exact problem. I'm disappointed to say the least especially since I can't find another brand/similar model with a beepless mode. I'll hold on to my refund until my research brings me good news. TL;DR If you only want to use it for 60 seconds at a time, this might be perfect for you.

The microwave arrived in two days as expected. Unpacked, threw away the packaging material, plugged in power, LED lit up, all worked well until trying to test heating a glass of water - set heating time to 30 seconds, pressed start button, wham! house circuit breaker tripped, electric power to my kitchen all went down. May be the microwave's power was too strong? reset circuit breaker, set microwave's power to its lowest level, retried, wham, house circuit breaker tripped again. The microwave was an obvious defective product, what a surprise to me, this shouldn't ever happen to Panasonic brand. Went through the Amazon product replacement process, two days later, the replacement microwave came. Extremely carefully went through the setup again, this time, everything worked, including the heating function. What an ordeal. The microwave worked just fine. If not for the first defective product experience, I would give this a 4-star.

It arrived in one day and the box showed no signs of damage and it appeared to be packaged correctly. When we unpacked it and placed it on the counter we noticed that the door did not close completely - a gap appeared on the top between the oven and the door. Placed a cup of water on the turntable just to test if it worked. We set it for 1 minute than pressed Start. The turntable did not rotate, the light went on, then it stopped after about 2 seconds. Then the light would not go out. We're assuming it arrived defective. Very disappointed.

Admittedly, I just received this microwave oven today. However, I want to report that, unlike others have reported, the door to this particular microwave oven opens easily AND the light goes on whenever I open the door (not just when it's cooking). As others have said, the microwave oven does seem louder than my previous microwave oven and, it seems to me, it is because it delivers microwaves constantly to the food. I say this because my previous microwave oven DID get loud intermittently. Considering its overall size, it is remarkable how large the interior is: roughly 13.5 inches wide x 14 inches deep x 9 inches tall. I say roughly because that's the size for the opening. In fact, the interior walls and ceiling are indented providing more room. I ordered this model because the next size up was too big for my needs. That version had 4.5 stars and great reviews. So I was excited to find this smaller version and ordered right away. I did not read the reviews until after I placed my order. Oops! Here's hoping this one lasts and does not die within 3 - 13 months from the date of purchase like other reviewers have reported. Fingers crossed!I UPDATE: It has been roughly 9 months and this microwave is still functioning perfectly.

I bought the previous version of this microwave, the NN-SN651W. Same exact size, same button panel. First, the older model had some real issues. About 6 months in I had an arcing incident, where a small piece of food on the mica diffuser plate caused some slight damage to the inside of the unit. See some of the other user images of blackened insides - mine was not as bad but basically the same thing. After cleaning, the arcing was no longer occurring, but the damage was done. The button panel was messed up, it often would fail to actually microwave, and sometimes it would need to be unplugged and plugged back in. Most of the time it was fine, but it was having bouts of major fits. Panasonic offered to have a service center look at it, at my cost to ship it to them and back. No thanks. Almost exactly 3 years later, it straight up died. Nothing on the screen, kaput. Not happy with that lifespan, but I was in a jam. I needed a replacement that was 12" tall, white, and not total junk. That left me with another Panasonic or a Sharp, and I wasn't impressed with the the Sharp. Oh well, time to roll the dice again. It arrived about 5 days ago. Exactly the same footprint and height, it's white, and it's a familiar and seemingly high-quality microwave. But a few differences. First the worse. The beeping on Cancel is more annoying. Buttons seem less responsive. Heating seems... less consistent? The door opens a few degrees arc smaller (nearly exactly 90 degrees, no further). The better - the light comes on when you open the door and when you microwave!!!! That was a huge improvement. I can confirm, the light comes on when you open the door! Next, the door opens and closes in a much smoother way via button. Seems higher quality. Seems like it's more powerful. Overall, it's a good microwave. But time will tell.

Much more complicated than my simple needs, but works well. I've only had this microwave for 8 months, & it just died! Panasonic support has banker's hours & isn't open on the weekends. It's still under warranty, so I only need support to let me know they'll replace it or pay to repair it at the nearest authorized service center.Update:I tried contacting Panasonic via live chat twice, & live chat was unavailable both times. I then tried the phone number in the accompanying handbook, & it referred me back to the website! I will never buy anything from Panasonic again.

I bought this recently to replace an old Sharp microwave that we had for over a decade. It is larger inside, yet overall smaller outside which is better for our limited counter space in our small apt kitchen. The extra power takes some getting used to, but once you realize how much better and faster and more evenly this microwave cooks and defrosts, you'll adjust nicely to its use. It has many presets that are very useful for a large variety of foods which takes the guesswork out of figuring out how much time to set, as it uses a humidity sensor to detect when the food is done. I have had no issues with seeing the keypad, as others have stated, and the sheen of the exterior i find to be beautiful and easy to maintain, with a quick wipe down. We are very happy with our purchase, as Panasonic has always been a trustworthy manufacturer that makes reliable and rugged products, and this microwave is no exception.

We purchased this product in December 2015 and it broke in February 2017. The code flashed "H98," which means that "The oven unit power supply source failed." The product booklet also tells you that the remedy is to "contact an authorised Service Center." But when I called Panasonic, I was told it would cost me $10.95 to talk to an agent since the product was out of warranty. I guess you get what you pay for. I'll never buy a product from Panasonic again.

I purchased this unit August 8th, 2016. It displayed error code 'H97' on December 12th, 2016. This error code requires a technician to debug / repair. Panasonic states you can return a product for any reason within the product's standard warranty period. What is not provided is how to make that actually happen. Technical support will not help. Contacting sales to initiate a return is within a small window of business hours EST. I am beyond disappointed with the product and the company's service.

What can I say, it's a microwave that works! 1200 Watt, so it doesn't take long. The only thing is once a kitchen timer has been set and in use, you can't use the microwave function. Unlike most microwave ovens, if you press 1, 2, 3, etc. you don't get instant 1, 2, 3 etc. minutes of run time. It does have a re-heat sensor that I mostly don't trust because this is the most powerful oven we've owned. The re-heat sensor seams to let it run longer that what I'd guess at, but so far no explosions! The price we paid was fair for this quality microwave.

I really like this microwave. I tend to over research everything and after agonizing for hours this one came out on top. We needed a new microwave as our old one was about 9 years old. I wanted to make sure our new microwave would have room enough to heat up my neck wrap and booties. These are both rice filled and our old microwave was way too small and heated them unevenly. This new one is perfect! It has a large turntable and still takes up about the same counter space as our old one. It's also very light for its size. My six year old can operate it no problem so it's fairly intuitive. The light comes on when you open the door and the touchpad is easy to use. It also looks very sleek. The front surface is extremely reflective so it does pickup fingerprints easily. I wouldn't say it's quiet but it's not noticeably noisy. Very happy with this choice.

I really like the inverter defrost and the fact that you can actually dial back the power level rather than just the duty cycle on this type of microwave. The finish is nice and it runs fairly quietly. The sensor cooking actually works fairly well and the sensor reheat is decent for one-touch leftovers. That said, I have had two issues with this microwave in the short time I have owned it. First, the number pad/buttons are a kind of plastic/rubber printed film that will scratch/ripple/deform if you brush it with a fingernail. The number 2 and the start button have basically begun scratching off after only a few months of use. Second, somewhat careless removal of a coffee mug from the carousel took a large chip out of the edge of the glass. I have owned several microwaves and never have I seen such fragile glass used for the carousel. Thankfully it broke cleanly and didn't crack the rest of it and still works fine.

First, the things that are annoying: 1. The light does not turn on when you open the door. This is a weird configuration, but rarely a problem when my overhead kitchen light is on. If it's nighttime, I turn on the oven hood light to see what I'm doing. 2. It's hard to see inside when it's on, even though the light is on. The problem is the metal screen in the window -- something about the configuration of the little holes just makes it hard to get a clear sight of everything. I can see inside enough for most purposes -- for example, to see if something is boiling. 3. The end alarm is a series of short beeps, which can be missed if you're in another room. It doesn't beep again to remind you that it's done. (My old one would remind me -- I miss that feature.) 4. The display is hard to see at an angle -- which includes when you're standing in front of it, looking down. I don't use the display as a clock, so I find the narrow viewing angle only mildly annoying. 5. The top gets a bit warm when it's cooking. This concerned me at first, but I guess this will just teach me not to add clutter to the top of my microwave. ;) So why give this four stars? Despite these annoyances (and in some cases, questionable design), I think it's a keeper. I LOVE the inverter technology. Foods heat up evenly and water boils faster. Despite having a bigger interior than my last microwave, it takes up less space. And I didn't pay much more than I would have for a non-inverter microwave. So all-in-all, worth it.

So far, I'm really impressed by this unit. I had a previous Panasonic and it worked beautifully, except, at the end, the door had to be slammed, then didn't work at all. I was initially leery of buying another Panasonic; but upon researching the reviews, the company kept coming up to the top of the lists. Then, I found this one - it has a notch so the door will close with a light touch - I was sold and so happy to continue with Panasonic. It has many features that I'll probably never use but should. It's easy to clean and with 1200 watts, it's one of the highest powered units available. I chose this smaller unit to take up less space; but it did not disappoint - it still has a 13.5" turntable and does everything I need. Shipping was quick and it was packaged correctly. No wonder it's a best seller from Amazon!

I bought this microwave because it has a sensor, which works as I expected.. Put in a plate of cold food, press Sensor Reheat, and no matter the quantity of food it will heat it up the right amount of time to get the right temperature. Some other microwaves have a Reheat button, without a sensor, but just gives a set amount o time, which is useless. Reheat used to mean it had a sensor, but apparently now you have to look for the word Sensor. It also has a Sensor Cook button which I don't find useful. You have to press a number 1 through 12 after pressing the Sensor Cook button, for different kinds of food, as listed in the manual. If you don't have the manual, it is useless. The screen does not tell you what the codes are, nor is it printed anywhere on the oven. Even if you know the number, you still have to adjust for the amount of food, so what exactly is being sensed is not clear to me. Others have complained about the light not coming on when you open the door (it goes on only while it is cooking). It does not bother me as I can see inside well enough when I open the door, and I like I can leave the door open to air out the oven, without a light burning. You need the light while it is cooking to check that something is not overflowing. Regarding the door opening mechanism, I would prefer a handle, as it gives your hand a larger target area - an 8 inch long handle - to shoot for when opening compared to the 2 inch x 1 inch rectangle. But it is not a deal breaker. The mechanism itself is fine. I find that it opens and closes smoothly without much effort, unlike some other reviewers here who complained about that. I am looking forward to using the Keep Warm function. That sounds useful. I like the simple numbers to set the time. I have gotten used over the years to press 11, 22, 33 seconds and so on, fine tuning the amount of time while minimizing the button presses. Some microwaves today you cannot do that - the numbers are for number of minutes, not seconds - but not for this microwave. There is a One Minute quick start button. It would be nice to have a 10 Second quick start button, and also to start immediately without having to press Start. Overall I am happy with this microwave. The Sensor Heat works as I expected. Because of what I think is a redundant Sensor Cook button and the lack of a handle, I took off a star.
