I've had a Breville blender for the last decade or so. My biggest use is to make smoothies and iced drinks. I liked my Breville a lot but when it finally broke down I decided to "up my game" and get a Vitamix after a lot of research.

The vitamix blows me away. It has so much power it grinds ice cubes into slush with no problem (a task that my Breville did, but labored to do). The base of the blender is built like a tank. I also really like the automated "modes" which work really well. Here's one gotcha... don't buy the "extended" warranty because the manufacturer's warranty is so long that even the longest "extended" warranty choice doesn't actually extend it! (read the fine print!).

The one negative I'll say about this blender (besides the really high price) is the "cleaning" aspect of it. A lot of people tout it and I'm not really sure why. Yes, there is a "cleaning" mode where you put liquid and dish soap into it, turn it on and it "cleans itself". It's kind of impressive parlour trick, but ultimately it's kind of a pain in the behind. First you have to get the "bulk" out of it yourself, then you have to put exactly the right amount of liquid in there. Too much and it will foam out of the top and make a mess on your counter, too little and it won't clean the top. But even after it's "cleaned itself" you do have to do throw out the water and actually do some cleaning of it. Personally, for cleaning, my old Breville wins on this aspect. I could just throw it in the dishwasher and it would be perfect with no effort on my part. The Vitamix is not machine-washable.

I still love the vitamix though. Worth the high price (so far at least) and it really does expand what one can do with a blender.

Tried different blenders over the years with mediocre results and they always ended up in the trash. Waited years before making this purchase and read countless reviews by professionals and consumers. After enjoying a super smooth smoothie at the local health food shop, I asked what blender they use. Vitamix was the answer. After using it every day for a month I am amazed at how well it blends. Not that I would try this but it seems as though you could put gravel with a little bit of water into this blender and come out with a smoothie Fred Flintstone would envy. Ice, vegetables, whole flax seeds, fruits all perfectly blended into an exceedingly smooth consistency. Clean up is a breeze. I've owned mine for a month, use it every day and hope to continue to do so for at least a few more decades! What are you waiting for?

Bought on the recommendation of a friend, I have used this machine every day since it arrived. It is a sleek powerhouse that makes me wish I'd bought one years ago! The 64 oz. container size is ideal for morning smoothies for two or three. The machine is a bit noisy when pulverizing ice, but for me, that's a tiny trade-off for a perfectly blended smoothie. No problems encountered when handwashing the container and lid, either. Comes with a recipe book with a decent variety of basic recipes to get you started.

Two observations: the cord is a bit on the short side, and even with the "low profile" container, the assembled unit sits pretty tall, but neither issue detracts from my enthusiastic five star rating.

If you are looking for the top of the range blender, that can blend pieces other blenders shy away from, then this is the blender for you. It comes at a premium price but with a 7 year warranty, this will last you a lifetime.

I have been using an older VitaMix blender that has 3 pre-programmed settings for over 10 years, and it has been excellent. It got LOTS of use. Bearings started to age, so sent it to VitaMix to service it (“gifting” it to my daughter). She is very happy with my older reconditioned one, and I bought this newer model for myself. Love it, love it, love it. If U R thinking of getting a decent blender, invest in one of these. It will last a long time, and is a workhorse!

It's a vitamix what more needs to be said. I've wanted a vitamix for years and I finally got this one last Christmas. I may not use it every day but I use it often and it's so nice to be able and put it onto auto and let it run through the course without me having to pulse it. Occasionally I have to use the tamper tool but it's the machine that makes it all so very nice and easy. Plus it's easy to clean.

I have had the opportunity to compare the Pro 750 Household mdl (VM0158A) series to a much earlier (10-15 years earlier) model, the Commercial/Household model (VM0103). I have also used the Rival Mdl X1-14402C (don’t think they are made anymore).
Due to a medical condition everything I eat is through a PEG tube and all foods must be near liquefied for consumption.
As far as performance, the new model does just as well as the older model and processes the food in a very short amount of time. I have processed sausage (patties and links), hamburger patties, Bacon wrapped turkey & chuck tender filets, Panda Express Orange chicken & Sweet Fire Chicken both with chow mien, pizza, meat loaf, pork tender loin, and others.. As of this review I have not found anything that the blender (s) could not liquefy and do it in 1 to 2 minutes.
The Rival does ok but when processing meats a strainer is highly recommended.

The only downside of the Vitamix blenders I can comment on at this timeother than kcost, is that both mdl blenders are a little bit noisy but the new model seems to have a little more vibration in it.
Can’t wait tell I can eat normal again so that I can try some of the other food processing techniques listed in the Vitamix cookbook.
If I base the durability rating off of the earlier mdl blender I would have to give it a 5 star rating, the newer mdl I have only had for a month so can't comment on that one yet.
