I bought a cheap toaster the first time because I rarely make toast. BIG mistake! This toaster is not expensive but looks chic and the features makes shifting from toast to bagels very easy. I don't know about you, but it seems that cheaper toasters won't evenly toast the bagel. Not a problem with this toaster.

A couple of wonky things about this toaster, it toast the bread more on top than the bottom part, the crumb tray will not stay closed for anything, and, the most annoying, the cord comes out on the side with the controls. Why? It's a small cord so I'd like to store it with the cord closest to the wall plug but then the controls are facing the wall. Bad design but you get what you pay for.

The settings on this toaster make NO SENSE. I'll toast my bread on "4" and it'll pop up practically raw. Then I'll switch it to a "2" to try to finish the job, and it'll pop up completely BURNT. Also, when you pick it up, ALLLLLL of the crumbs just fall out all over the place. Makes a huge mess. GARBAGE TOASTER.

If you like your morning pastries warm but not toasted, this is the one for you. Bagels were one my favorite breakfast item and now they're unhappy warm bread discs that bring me no joy. The crumb trays open while you're putting it away making cleaning a breeze but then you're left with a crumb covered counter. Thankfully we don't use it often so this is no longer an issue for us. Save your money, or if you do buy this save the box so you can return it unlike I did

The product is good. Unfortunately, I had to write this. Toady morning delivery boy came to our apartment gate, but the security code was not working at this moment, or he entered it in the wrong way, not sure though. He called me, I was trying to cooperate. But he misbehaved with me and showed me utter arrogance, which is not acceptable. I don't have much control over the security code and its working issues, it's up to the apartment authority. I tried to cooperate. As a customer, I can't accept this arrogance.

I have been using it daily to defrost + toast my frozen bread slices. They come out soft and well toasted at medium-low setting. I would give 5 starts if it didn't require ventilating the house during first 3-4 toasts due to a strong smell that comes out. It completely stops after 5-6 toasts though. I've seen reviews regarding the smell in other toaster brands as well, so something to do with the technology I guess.

What is the purpose of the lightness/darkness dials? When turned up ALL THE WAY the toast/bagels pop up half done. We always had to repeat toast cycle twice to get a proper toasted bagel/break, even with dials turned up all the way. Waste of time.
We gave this lame so-called toaster to charity.

I had this toaster for less than two months and it broke (the internal mechanism to grab and pull down the piece of bread is busted). I had used it, on average, once a week, so it has BARELY been used. It emitted an odd odor every time it toasted and the settings really made no significant difference or honestly worked like you'd think they would (for example, the bagel setting never even really toasted the bagel, despite trying different number settings along with it). Even as a prime member, it took a very long time to receive, as well, with shipping times delayed and inaccurate. I do not recommend this item.

First if all, no matter where you put dials you have to push down at least twice.
The trays underneath keep popping open when I lift toaster to put away and crumbs go all over.
Hope it breaks soon so I can buy something else

After using this toaster for several months it has got to be the worst purchase I’ve ever made. If you have a Lotta time and you don’t mind resetting the toaster time after time for a piece of toast is for you. But if you want a piece of toast or a Eggo or A bagel in a couple of minutes don’t waste your time it takes at least eight minutes for a piece of toast or a bagel. There Has to be a better alternative the heating elements never turn orange they are always really low even on high power.

I have decided that no toaster works for more than a year. This is the THIRD toaster I have purchased that has bit the big one within a week of its 1st birthday.
For the first 363 days of its life this toaster was a fine little workhorse. It did its toasting duty quietly, taking up very little space on the counter. It was a happy toaster. And I was a happy toast eater.
365 days after its purchase, it bit the big one. Even on setting 7 I can barely get a light brown hue, even after 2 rounds of toasting.
Alas, at least it died on Prime day.

My husband is beyond fussy about his toast. I am embarrassed to say I bought and returned 2 other popular toasters before buying this Hamilton Beach. It actually toasts both sides the same, an even light brown. If you really use toast for breakfast or sandwiches,like BLT, you probably need this toaster.

This has to be the slowest and least efficient toaster I have ever owned. It takes about 15-20 minutes just to get the toast a little brown. If the return window wasn't closed, I would return this toaster. Don't buy unless you have all the time in the world to wait for your toast:(

Absolute crap. This toaster is broken in less than two months of normal use. The warranty says manufacturer should cover it but then I have to pay for all the shipping, which is probably more than the toaster itself. I bought this because the reviews were simple, why pay much for a toaster, I mean all toasters do toast, right?! Fool of me, cheap here is a waste. I wish Amazon would refund me for this, in the end, they're responsible for selling this piece of metal and plastic garbage.

It worked nicely...for a few days. Now if you put it on highest setting (7) it browns an English muffin as if on medium. You couldn't burn anything on this particular toaster. I think we just got a lemon that's all. BTW for some reason there's no toasters to be had in WalMart or other stores. WTH? So we had to order one online.

Worked perfectly until it didn't! I've had it just shy of a full year, now I have to replace it. It will no longer keep lever down to toast anything, I have to hold it down until its ready, which is pretty dangerous as it sparks when I let it go.

Despite its price, it does exactly what I want done and well. It has the cancel button so I don't have to ruin everything by yanking it up. It has the bagel mode which I doubt I will use but why not have it. Yada yada, easy to clean and easy to use. Good product from a reputable brand.

This toaster is a piece of junk. The coils heated unevenly so I didn't like the way the toast browned and the entire outside of the toaster got VERY hot. It was not worth even the low price I paid for it and I will not be using it at all.

Nice basic toaster. Resists fingerprints, too. It replaced my 80 dollar KitchenAid when the electromagnet just stopped working. The only difference is you can't lift to check toast while its toasting.

Problems with this toaster:
1. Always toasts unevenly (the side towards the middle is much more done).
2. Very light weight construction (flimsy)
3. The top of the bread is above the heating elements.
4. Made in China
We had an old Hamilton Beach toaster that was excellent until it stopped working. This new toaster does not compare.
Update: Toaster failed after 3 months. Save your money and do not buy!

This toaster has great features. My two best is the defrost button for frozen waffles and the bagel button that you can also use for buns, it will only tost the inside so you don't get a burned bun/bagel too.

Seems to be hit and miss. Mine toasted very unevenly because only half the elements on the inside of both slots heated up. New toaster was actually worse than the 10 yr old toaster it replaced.

I like the fact that the openings are wide and can fit bagels and aren’t super thin that make putting one slice of bread in a challenge.
I didn’t like the fact that when it was done it didn’t ding or pop up and it got jammed a few times. It’s easy to fix by pushing up with a little pressure.
The design is sleek and fits in well with the other appliances on my kitchen. The features are easy to use and it doesn’t burn my bread/bagels even on the highest setting which my old one used to do.

When you first open the toaster, you will want to run the toaster for a couple of cycles in a well-ventilated room (or outdoors if you have the option). The product will produce a very bad chemical smell that will fade after you run the product a few times. I ran the toaster about 5 times without any bread in it to completely get rid of the smell. After that, it works perfectly as a toaster. I only really toast white bread and found this toaster adequate for that use case.

I found my order at the bottom of my stairwell of the basement, no one has ever delivered anything to our basement so it was a few days before I even knew it was here. It was just in it's manufactured packaging, not protected in a another box. When I opened it I heard loose parts and the traps at the bottom wouldn't stay closed. One side of the toaster would not stay down when I pushed the lever. I'm very disappointed in the way it's made. I'm disappointed that the driver couldn't find my front door as well especially since I had a previous delivery that same day.

Bought this toaster, sleek looking, very different outcome from previous owned toaster. Had to fine tune settings to taste. This was easily done for toast, split bagels comes out perfect. I would suggest this toaster to anybody

I will never buy another Hamilton Beach product again. Our toaster of many years stopped working so we replaced it with this one. I have never seen such uneven toasting. Sometimes the toast will just pop right out after 15 seconds. Very inconsistent product.

Poor quality unit for the price. Even set at level 7 toast pops up not toasted. Push toast back down then it comes out burnt one side only. The center heating coils are useless.

Really a nice looking toaster. Consistent toasting. However, the toast is a tiny bit lighter on the bottom. I don't have toast often. Ican live with that, my last toaster either burned or had to toast 2x to get toast on the same setting. This is a good overall toaster priced right.

Bought this toaster Nov. 22, 2019 -- 29 days ago. Never once did it brown toast on the first try. Always browned it on the second, but not before turning the bread into rock hard inedible crap. Today, it died. Completely, totally died. The modern toaster was invented in 1919 -- 100 years ago. Toasters are the most used household appliance of all time. You would think with that kind of history and popularity, Hamilton Beach could make an inexpensive product that actually toasted bread on the first try and lasted longer than *almost a full month*. If I still had the box, I'd send it back. Complete trash.

I was a little disappointed. I think it’s made more for a bagel than toast. I had to put the number all the way up to get my sourdough bread toasted. Eventually it’s done. Now a bagel is perfect, make sure you turn it down!

I like my toast toasty, meaning well-browned and a bit crunchy on the edges. I have to crank up the dia to almost the highest, but it brown and toasts beautifully without burning anything.

One thing I will say though -- for a "wide slot" toaster I was surprised to find that it's still not wide enough to accommodate a wider, flatter bread like you often see with rye or pumpernickel. I still have to cut a bit off the end to get them to fit, but not very much, so I'm not too miffed.

I bought this toaster despite the negative reviews, my mistake. It's junk. I don't even understand why a company would produce a product that doesn't even do what it's made to do. It can't toast an english muffin on the highest setting, not even in bagel mode. Regular bread barely gets any color either. Absolutely junk, and Amazon should be ashamed for selling it.

It doesn't hold large slices of bread, they stick out the top. But it toasts pretty well. It is a little on the flimsy side, but it was very inexpensive. Not bad for what we paid for it.

Only thing, it feels cheap because it is lightweight and at times it is kind of hard to keep the lever down every so often when lowering the bread into it.

I'm so happy I got this! We love our Hamilton beach toaster with extra wide slots, the fact that I know that we can fit any type of bread even if is wide is great because I know it won't get stock and it won't get burn either. The High-Lift toast boost is a plus because the bread can be easily removed from the toaster with no chance of getting burn. This toaster comes with peace of mind thanks to the auto shutoff, no need to turn around after leaving the house to make sure I turned it off. Love the shade Selector feature, the fact that everybody can get exactly what they like is awesome, my kids are very happy every time. I really like how the buttons light up so I know what I pushed in case I forgot or even if the kids push it, the bagel and defrost are extremely helpful, from the freezer to the toaster, what a time saver ! So easy to use even the kids can help in the morning, they love to feel helpful and independent. The little crumb tray is just so easy to clean, and also is very easy to remove from the toaster.
We toasted bagels and wheat bread and they both came out perfect and crunchy, just like we like them!!
I also love how easy it is to clean it on the outside, the shine of the material is great and it looks good on my countertop.

This toaster works great! It is lightweight and has several very useful features. The high lift function on the lever allowed me to remove items without burning my fingers. Loved the Defrost function, which let me toast my frozen bagels in one step without having to thaw first. The Bagel option toasts on one side which gave me bagels (and English muffins) crispy on one side, but still chewy on the bottom. The slots are also wide enough to accommodate even thick bagels (that maybe weren't cut very well). I tested on a variety of items including bakery sourdough bread, frozen blueberry bagels, English muffins and whole wheat seeded grain bread. This toaster handled each beautifully. The lever was very easy to push down and catch. I have had toasters before where I had to push the lever several times to get it to catch. There is also a Cancel button which is handy if you want to stop the toasting process. Cleaning was very easy by just sliding out the crumb tray and wiping it off. Deep slots, so I don't have to turn my bread sideways.
Bagel feature and extra wide slots for toasting bagels or my husbands hamburger buns.
Bread lifter feature, so I don't burn my fingers removing the toast.

I really like the slide out crumb catcher tray. No unplugging your toaster, turning it upside down to shake the crumbs out. So convenient.
I also like the stainless steel look, the fact that the outside stays cool and it toasts evenly.
The only suggestion I have is that they change the design of the "shade selector" knob. The edge of the indicator that points to the numbers should be highlighted to make it more visible in order to choose the correct number. When we first used the toaster we wanted to set it on 3, but ended up setting it on 6 and burnt our first toast. However, after looking a little closer we realized our mistake. On my second one since 7/27/19. Got the second one today and one side has stopped working already. Sparks flew and that side won't even go down. So after paying for one and paying the postage on the replacement toaster I have a 2 slice toaster not a 4 slice toaster.

This is probably the best cheap toaster I've ever seen. It toasts thick toast incredibly quickly on just the first notch of the time setting. I'm afraid to turn up the knob!

The slots are nice and large. The defrost feature is nice. It has the bagel feature and we've used it. Nice that you can "boost" the bread up, since I often buy smallish bakery breads that are difficult to reach without this feature.
It seems to take a while to toast, but honestly, this my 4th toaster in my adult life and I've always felt every single one took too long to toast. LOL

I love this toaster. The bagels toast well on one side while the other side is warm and soft. The appliance is so light weight, wide for thick breads, if bread is small.......you can lift lever to reach the bread—so you won’t get burnt, and the sides of the toaster do not get hot. It’s worth the money. I would recommend this item for the person who love bagels and toast.

Broke after 6 months. Lever no longer stays down so won't begin toasting. Hamilton Beach customer service not very helpful. Fist they said item was out of warranty even though included paperwork said item was covered for 1 yr. Finally agreed to replace but want $12.50 for shipping. Would not recommend. Will never buy another Hamilton Beach item.

Might be because our legacy toaster was so heavy - this model feels so lightweight in comparison. Toasts 4 slices just fine - a big time saver - just a little light (at the darkest setting) to my taste. Husband is going to fiddle around with it but overall we're pleased. Good value for a 4 slicer.

Still waiting for Hamilton Beach to get back to me, one side of the bread gets toasted. Had on line chat with customer service if Amazon and explained my problem on 7/3 and she told me she or Hamilton would get back to me..... nothing so far!

Its a toaster that works. Not too big, which is good. It doesn't seem very deep though to let the toast go far down. Biggest drawback is the lack of a pull out crumb tray. It does not feel cheap like someone else said, but I could have got an equal one much cheaper without the metal sides. Happy overall.

I missed my window of return. I optimistically thought that perhaps it just needed to “break in”. This toaster deserves minus stars! It doesn’t toast!
The picture that I uploaded is typical if not better than most days. I am not going to donate this appliance to charity for fear someone else will lose their money as well when it appears in a thrift store.

Love the toaster except for getting use to how to defrost (e.g. bagels) and then toast. Otherwise it is light, makes great toast and is easy to clean.

We had a Hamilton Beach toaster for over 15 years so decided to stick with this brand. This one is lighter and seems cheap and the toast holders are not as sturdy as our last one. It also doesn't toast as evenly as the prior one. Other than that, it is great for our purposes. Just 2 of us most of the time.

First of all, Amazon is not at fault for my review.
Out of the box, it was making a rattling noise. Looking inside, I noticed that there were parts misaligned because the lower portion of the cooking section was bent.
(This was internal, well protected by not only the outer housing, but the packaging as well.)
I was able to carefully align the out of place components and the toaster now works as expected.
I do not expect to be required to complete the assembly of a toaster when I buy one.
I could have contacted Amazon and returned or replaced it, but for the 10 minutes it took to correct this one, I believe it will work out fine for us.

It's very simple, extremely light-weight, and does the job. I prefer not to use the bagel feature because it doesn't seem to toast it sufficiently. But the normal heat works great with bagels and toast and waffles,.

Nothing was wrong with the toaster; however, when it arrived it was on my front porch in the toaster box with a sticker on the outside of it. Thank goodness it was just a $25 toaster, otherwise I'm sure it would have immediately been stolen off of my porch. Unacceptable and unprofessional to say the least.

I bought this toaster thinking it would be reliable. Well, it does go down and pop up, but the toasting of any bread or other product put in is very uneven. One side might be toasted but not the other. The bottom of the bread might be toasted but not the top. I do not recommend this as a reliable toaster.

I had a perfectly good white plastic toaster, had it for 8 years, worked great, gave it to goodwill when my pretty new toaster arrived. This is an attractive toaster, light weight, slim design. I threw it in the trash today when it stopped working in just 2 months. It toasted unevenly. Due to the metal around the top, it would burn your fingers when removing a toasted item. Sure wish I had my cheap, white plastic, reliable, working great ugly toaster back!

This toaster is Junk!!! It is supposed to toast Bagels by heating the center sets of coils as a normal toaster would and only allowing the outer sets of coils to do a warming function. I had to set the browning dial to 7 (the highest) and had to run it through 2 cycles to get a slightly toasted bagel. I also ran a piece of bread through at the #7 setting but not pushing the bagel button. It did toast both sides but did not turn the bread very dark, it was still eatable. I would have thought the highest setting would really make the toast very dark. I called the HB consumer office and was told it was defective and to return it to Amazon. I did this and reorder the toaster (#2). This unit works the same as the first. If you are looking for a CHEEP made toaster that does not work as advertised this is it!!!!

Toaster looks nice and works great! The bagel setting is a neat option that only toasts the insides of the bagel slices if you prefer a softer outside. It also gives a consistent toasting experience as opposed to my previous toaster, which would burn your stuff one time and barely brown it another time. Adjusting the level of toasting is easy and the knob has clear adjustment settings. Assuming it holds up, this is a good purchase.

Full size croissant sandwich maker. I love this machine. It thaws my frozen bread perfectly. Toast my Costco croissants to perfection. Hot dog buns, hamburger buns, etc. I am just mad I didn't get the four slot toaster. Great machine for any household and the price is even better. You don't need a thousand buttons or options. You need crispy bread! This does it to perfection!

Had the previous model that had the tongs, this one doesn't have them and promises that everything is easy to reach - this is not always the case. I wish they included a new pair of tongs with this one. It's going to be a PITA to clean after a few years as they have not innoviated in any way possible with the crumb tray or the ability to open and clean the device.

I have had this for a few months now and am pleased with it. I bought and threw away 3 toasters in the last year because they didn't pop up or the darkness settings meant nothing or the bagel setting didn't work. This one has worked well and has easy to see large buttons for bagel and cancel.

So, I plugged in the model number of my broken toaster and purchased this updated model version.
It works fine, and it does have a smaller / narrower counter footprint.

I bought this toaster because our old one didn’t have slots large enough for bagels and it was old. This toaster is great and has a blue light that comes on when it’s in use. There is also a cancel button that will pop the bread up immediately.

Mine does toast, but not evenly. On the middle setting it toasts dark at top and gradually lighter as it goes down, to almost no toasting at bottom. Both slots toast exactly the same, if you call that toasting evenly. Very disappointed. I will have to return it. I have never had a toaster that toasted so poorly.

This toaster will toast your bread and bagels to a nice golden brown color if the knob is turned all the way up. If you like your toast a little burned around the edges as I do, or even just a darker brown, it's hasn't the power to do it in one cycle. Push it down a second time, though, and it will incinerate it if you like.

I can fit a bagel in it and there is a special setting for them so it toasts the one side and not the other. It is hot and toasted with the side you put cream cheese on.

I have only had this toaster for about a month, but so far I really love it.!!! It doesn’t take up a lot of space on the counter and I like the feature that you can lift the handle to take out your toast easily. Nice variety of toast settings also.

This is a disappointing purchase that was made in late December, 2016. It has now broken (3 months later). This product was selected because our previous simple Hamilton Beach toaster lasted us many years. This newer design belies its poor quality which includes a smaller toast section which barely fits a standard size loaf slice, a pop-up mechanism that keeps the lever at the half-way mark resulting in burning fingers from reaching in to grab hot toast, a flimsy crumb flip door at the bottom requiring you to pick up the toaster to access (the previous version had a much more desireable and functional crumb pull out tray on the bottom), a below surface design flaw which places a sub-surface rim around the outside of the toaster which collects crumbs which are difficult to remove, and, as mentioned by other reviews, an oddly placed cord which is attached to the bottom at the front of the toaster body (who would ever plug in a toaster from the front?). Yes, this was an inexpensive appliance, but there is no excuse for such poor design and quality. I should just chalk it up to bad luck, but I don't want others to have the same experience, so I am writing this review.

its good for the price. It is not the best. I don't get proper toasting on settings. it has its own mind but I only paid small amount. I bought it cuz of the size. Its not wide, long which is what I needed for my space. It is definitely not any wider than the regular toaster as it is advertised. I doubt if it will toast a bagel properly.

I bought this to replace an ancient Cuisinart toaster. Since I almost never toast bread, but always toast bagels, I thought this would be a good alternative. The toaster does a decent job, but I find that, if I do not put the shade selector on the highest number, the bagels get warm enough, but they do not really toast. I think that buying this toaster was a good idea, and I like that it can fit even larger sized bagels with no problem.

I have never left feedback but felt I should warn others who are considering buying this toaster to NOT buy it! I thought since I was purchasing a toaster that was midrange in price that it would be better quality. As soon as I took it out of the package, I could tell it felt cheap. It doesn't toast even when it's on the darkest setting. It just basically drys the bread out without actually toasting it. DO NOT BUY! Horrible product!
