I’ll be honest. At first my rice came out absolutely TERRIBLE! I had to throw the whole thing out, but once I started reading the comments and read the instructions on the booklet again, it was perfect!!! I have nothing but great things to say! My boyfriend and I can finally have rice cooked to perfection. I wish I would of gotten this sooner. It’s the perfect size for just two people. It’s just my boyfriend and I so this works perfect.

We are new to having a rice cooker. I can't believe we ever lived without it. The machine makes perfect rice everytime. The timer on the front makes it easy to plan the rest of the meal around the time the rice will be done. If we are not ready for it the keep warm mode turns on automatically.

Small enough for 2 adults. Easy to clean the pot but not the lid as it’s not removable. The instruction does not tell or show how to remove the lid. Only keep warm up to 12 hours. Does the job as a cooker.

Im so glad I purchased this rice cooker! My rice no longer comes out mushy! Definitely makes lunch and dinners a lot easier! I love how easy it is to use and clean! All you have to do is press a button or two and the cooker does the rest! I absolutely love my rice cooker and use it at least 3-4 times a week! I have not had no problems with it, always cooks my rice to perfection!

It was a short learning curve to learn how to use the commands. My cereal which I eat grits or stone ground oatmeal every morning turns out exactly right each time. I have also made rice in it and it came out great.

It's cooked rice, on its own, and cooked with other ingredients in the cooking bowl as well! Just listen to Uncle Roger - don't cook rice in a pot on the stove. Get one of these - it cooks it right, every time.

I have an instant pot already. And I thought that thing would be OK to handle all the rice cooking. But I was wrong. The race never turned out bright. And there was no way that I could cook a meal with rice at the same time. So I bought this little rice cooker. It gets the job done. And it gets the job done very well. I haven't had a single instance where I overcook the rice. And the couple rice cooking settings are just easy to use. And the style of this rice cooker matches the instant pot that already.

I had expected stainless steel instead of aluminum. There is no advice on how to cook short-grained brown rice.

NOT "Digital Programmable," no way to set “Start Time” and "Hour" key is completely useless, not even to specify “cooking duration ". It costs more than Aroma Cooker which allows you to do a lot different things with the touch of a keypad. Amazon is not helpful either. At the returning page, the Aroma alternative for exchange is more than twice as big in size, and no returning label is provided. It's a pain to see this crappy product sitting there doing nothing.

The description claims this makes 2-8 cups of "cooked" rice, this is not true. I would certainly not recommend to put more than 2 cups of uncooked rice in here which makes 6 cups of cooked rice. The rice result is pretty good, and yes, it takes 45 minutes. The second thing I tried was quinoa with veggies. Which turned to be a disaster. The quinoa ended up in the lid and the way the lid is constructed (there are two layers) it is impossible to clean. It would probably be fine if I stick to 2 cups but I think I put maybe 2.5 or 3 which was too much. Because of the lid this makes for a very flawed design and I would not recommend it. Maybe if you make just 1-2 cups of rice then it is okay. However, I am not sure anyone wants to cook in anything that cannot be cleaned properly.

Bought a new rice cooker after the old finally died, first thing I noticed was it takes 45 minutes to cook white rice for 1-2 people. Which it aweful when you are trying to have some rice with your meal. The second thing I noticed was that it saying that it can hold rice and keep rice warm for 12 hours, but I noticed that after a few days it would burn the bottom layer of the rice if I didn't take it out within 10 minutes of it being done. Definitely not worth buying.

I've only used this twice, but the rice turns out much better than the rice I cook on the stove. It's evenly cooked, and the cooker keeps it warm for hours. I've never used any other rice cookers, so I have nothing to compare this to, but I think it works great!

I tried using a rice tray in a different Hamilton Beach steamer, but there is no replicating the quality of an actual rice cooker. This one works great, and does an intelligent job of correctly detecting how long to cook the amount of rice you place in, regardless of the default time on the timer. There is a removable cap to let steam out, and the instructions do not mention it at all, so for those wondering, I have chosen to keep it off and haven't run into any issues.

The presets are easy to use and intuitive. I have only used this cooker for rice and oatmeal - can't speak to the "sear" and "sautee" functions. But it's a very reliable rice cooker, and the "hot cereal" setting lets you make steel cut oatmeal. The maximum is 10 cups - not 20. But you can make 10 cups - slightly more than half a gallon - without boil over. For rice, I appreciated the rinsing dish, measure and paddle included with the cooker.

Stay away! After 3 uses all the plastic on the inside is rattling around. Probably something to do with the terrible burning smell the first time I used it. Cooks white rice just fine. Does not cook brown rice or grains properly. Timer jumps time and when it goes off you have a pot full of water and uncooked rice. What a waste this thing it. So much for trying a "brand name" rice cooker for a change.

I tried cooking some rice in this when I first purchased it and it wasn't cooking. Put it away. Tried again this week. I put exactly the amount of rice it said to in the instructions. (Don't get me started on them telling you to put tw and half "cups" from the small plastic cut..that doesn't have a half mark on it!!) The rice was cooked on bottom but with a totally raw layer at top. I pressed the right buttons but nothing it did made sense.. it starts out at 45 min which is what it SHOULD take to cook.. then it goes to 8?? * what? It never seems to go to warm. I'm throwing it out. Horrible purchase.

This works really well. This is a simple device that cooks rice. It has steaming features as well, but I haven't tried those yet. I like being able to push a button and have rice cook automatically without burning. The rice will also be kept warm so the timing is not important. Cleaning is easy. I just put the pot in the dishwasher. My one complaint is that the operating instructions were confusing. For example, there are two step 1s, depending on whether you want to wash the rice or not. (I recommend you wash it.) But then, the instructions didn't tell you to add the rice to the pot! That's a rather important step to leave out, don't you think? In reality, the instructions are very simple: wash the rice in the basket, transfer the rice to the pot, add water, close the lid, plug the device in, press the warm button and then the rice button. It takes about 45 minutes. It is also important to control the ratio of water to rice very carefully. The markings on the pot seem to err on the side of too much water, at least for white rice, resulting in soggy rice. I recommend 135 g of water per every 125 g of white rice, which results in perfectly cooked rice.

This product was advertised as an 8-cup capacity rice maker. IT DOES NOT HAVE AN 8-CUP CAPACITY! We purchased it to replace our old 8-cup unit that died after 10 years of service. This new unit is small 6-cup unit. It's marked "6-cup capacity" on the inside bowl and also noted in the owners manual. Falsely advertised.

tossed in two asian cups (apparently they are smaller then a standard cup) fill to the 2nd line and clicked the white rice option. worked great except there was alot of water that blew through the top had to place on a towel for the rest of the cooking but im pretty sure that was user error of some sort, will try again tomorrow.

The reason for my low rating of this product is that on the 30th day of me using this product it stopped working. I'm into fitness, so I eat a lot of rice. This product made it so easy for me to have my rice ready with four meals a day. I've attempted to reach the seller 2 times with no response back. All I really wanted was a replacement. I was not going to write a bad review on the product or the seller. Now anybody out there reading this message don't purchase anything from this seller.

I returned this product because the capacity is too small and not what I am looking for. Be mindful that a “rice” measuring cup is not the standard cup measurement used in baking, but much smaller. If you need it for cooking for 1-2 persons or you enjoy rice occasionally, then this is right for you. But for daily family cooking this is too small. I am not reviewing product quality and performance because I did not use the product.

Like some of the other reviews the rice does take a little while but it does make great rice. Also makes great steamed vegetables, steamed potatoes, poached chicken. And if you want you can put vegetables at the bottom on the steam option with some seasonings and it will give a nice little char. I like it ‼️

This is a stupid product. It takes about 20 minutes to cool white rice in a normal pot, this one takes 45 minutes! What’s the point? Also it comes out mushy which is a clear indication that it’s overcooking. Don’t buy this nonesense

After using it for 3 months it works fine and is easy to clean however it takes 40-45 minutes to cook rice. My old rice cooker with the same capacity took no longer than 20. It just seems too long, I could cook it on the stove faster.

It makes perfectly well cooked rice in 45 minutes. I followed the cooking instructions and I have not had any problems what’s so ever cooking white rice! The digital counter is a big positive because you will always know how much longer it will be until done. It is very easy and fast to clean. I bought it just to cook rice “ONLY” and nothing else fancy and I am very happy with it and I would purchase it again.

This rice cooker came brand new in the mail. Once we took it out of the box and used it to cook some rice by plugging it into the outlet, the rice cooker emitted smoke, exploded, and caught on fire in the kitchen!! It was a fire hazard and a dangerous item. I am asking for a refund.

I purchased this as a gift for my son He's an EMS worker specially nowadays With the COVID 19 going on he is exhausted Long work hours dealing with these critical times I figured when he get to his house make cooking easier.... He is very happy with this kitchen appliance. I'm glad it's making his life a little easier with one less thing to worry about and still be well fed.
What did I buy‽ :)

Great little rice cooker if you only need to make a small amount of rice. I believe you can make up to 4 cups of rice as well as using a steaming basket. Very versatile cooker. Can steam, make rice, make warm cereal. Much smaller than a standard size you would see in a house with a family, but perfect for a single person or the occasional small get-togethers.

This guy cooks up Jasmine rice PERFECTLY every single time, and it's so easy. Easily one of the best kitchen items I've ever bought, wish I had gotten this years ago! Those complaining about their rice turning brown because of the 'warm' feature, it's your own fault for not monitoring when cooking is complete.

I love this rice cooker because it is so small and I have a small living space so it works out well for me. It does cook the rice well. The first try was a bad try being that I did not read the instruction on how to use this rice cooker. I was going off how I would use my moms bigger one. (my bad). so I tossed that batch out and read the instruction. 4 cup of rice and water up to the the 4th line. (oh my that is going to be a lot of rice). then I hit the warm button and then the rice button and it said 45 minutes. (So now I know how to plan my cooking time). When the 45 minutes were up the instructions said to let sit on warmer for 15 minutes. (so I did.) and it came out just right. Now on to the bad thing I now have 6 cups of rice, However the good side is that I don't have to cook rice for a while now. This too was one of my better buy and I did this with the help of an Amazon Rep. Then asked what I was looking for and then they help me arrow down my search, then help me pick the best and best price product. The reps will even help look for coupons and discounts. I don't know what I would do with out my Amazon. Trista1372

At first I was a bit skeptical of the whole rice cooker thing, especially when I saw the 45 minute cook time. Standard rice routine for me has always been, 1 cup rice, 2 cups water, cook for 20 mins and you're GTG. Well, this is basically the same routine only slightly different. Using the cup provided it still works at 1 cup rice, 2 cups water (adjust up or down depending on how you like your rice) 45mins cook though, time with 4~8 minute cool time and your rice is GTG! I did notice that you may need to keep an eye on the cool down, since the warmer my cause you to overcook your rice. I pulled it at 4 minutes so I was GTG.

it takes 45 minutes for white rice, while all the previous rice cookers we have had did it around 20 minutes. Even after 45 minutes, sometimes the rice wouldn't be fully cooked. We are going back to using the simple rice cooker without fancy options but does the job well faster.

So far, it's been easy to use and works pretty great. Did have issues with the initial unit, but was sent a replacement very quickly after advising Amazon. So far, we've cooked rice and steamed fish and both worked out pretty well. Cleaning the top part takes a little effort, but nothing too much

Me and my girlfriend love this thing! Makes perfect rice everytime and its easy to use. The other piece of crap we had wore out, this rice cooker is a thousand times better. Easy to use with simple instructions and measuring tools, along with being dead simple to clean. I highly reccomned this to any small families. It doesn't cook a crazy amount of rice so I'd say it's perfect for 2 or 3 people.

I love this rice cooker because it is easy to use. For some reason I cannot cook rice but this makes my rice perfect every time. I put one cup of rice and 1 and 1/2 cups of water; perfect rice everytime. I use the steamer to and it works great. great. The only issue is is that the steamer basket is small. You can't steam a lot of vegetables at all at one time.

Best used with Thai Hom Mali (Thai Jasmine Rice). The white rose Japanese style rice gets a little mushy unless done perfectly. Best to use little water or less than normal amount of water by 20% or so. When done open lid after 3 min turn off rice cooker (do NOT leave on "warm") and let steam escape for a few minutes then fluff the rice especially making sure none is stuck to bottom, close lid loosely (do not engage latch) allowing some moisture to escape. The unused portion of Thai Jasmine rice will be perfect next day for fried rice. Cheers :)

Love that nonstick coating, a feature that I really missed when cleaning the predecessor of this cooker. Very easy to use - turn it on, select what you're cooking - yes, just two button pushes - and that's it. Simple. Easy. And it works.

This rice cooker looks very nice but it is to small for a family of three. The description said that can make 8 cups but by it's size I think you can only make 1.5 cup of rice. It could be perfect for a single person or college student but not for a family.

Love my rice cooker! Almost too much. It's so easy. Dump in water, rice, and push a button. Only thing is the cook time is too long. White rice is set for 45minutes but it cooks quicker so I keep an eye on it and stop about 10 minutes short. Otherwise I WOULD RECOMMEND.

It was smaller than thought I had read 8 cups but their measuring cup by is the one that is in it not a normal cup size. We eat to much rice in our household like it probably would have made enough for just my husbands meal. It was nice looking and it was neat that it came with all of the stuff inside.

For the price I am totally satisfied. It makes rice, the rice tastes good, with slight variation in water and leaving the rice warming longer or shorter periods after cooking texture and softness can be adjusted. I like sticky rice, leftover reheated I snack on it all day now and use this cooker every day. There is a little water catch plastic thing on the hing, it doesnt seem to be mentioned in the instructions but it needs to be emptied nearly every use, it catches condensed steam from the lid and fills with a 4 'short cups' of rice the cooker has as its maximum. These are not a cup of dry volume per normal measuring cups, they are smaller but the 4 maximum makes a nice amount for my individual eating needs, would be good for 2 huge or 4 normal side dish portions of rice. Its so cheap, it makes tasty rice, can't really go wrong.

Love how it doesn't spill anything anywhere and when you open the lid, all the steam water goes into the little plastic pouch that you can then pour out. I use this for cooking rice and quinoa. Tried to use the steaming option but it doesn't work very well. Also wish that brown rice cooking option didn't take an hour to finish!

This multi cooker appliance is so convenient, for making many side dishes and meals. I've made pot roast, white rice, beans, and some steamed veggies. All have come out great. What is unique about this Hamilton beach multi cooker, is that on the menu you can choose the LOW slow cooker or the HIGH slow cooker feature. I'm home a lot so the high slow cooker feature is what I use most, but if you are gone most of the day, and you want dinner then of course it's convenient to be able to choose the low slow cooker feature. I do like having that option. The lid on this has a glass see through window, doesn't really give you a good view because of the condensation that forms on the window. If I want a good look I just quickly pot the lid open, no big deal. This comes with a steaming basket, rice paddle, and measuring cup. It is a 4.5 quart capacity. We are a family of four so this is a perfect size for us. The removable pot is nonstick and is easy to clean up. All the main and side dishes I have made have come out great. Once each meal or side dish is done, it will automatically go into warm mode. It really does save me time. I was confused about how to make the rice at first, I just didn't understand it. Once I got the directions clarified, my rice came out perfect. There is no need to set an amount for the rice. You just add as directed your rice and water and set to which rice you want, either brown or white, close lid and wait for it to beep and it's done!! The menu is easy to navigate, and choose your setting. Overall this is a great handy appliance, and I use mine at least three times a week. Also It doesn't take up a lot of counter space which is a plus for me. I'm excited to start making soups, since it's starting to get cold now. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was sent the multi-cooker to try out. It came just at the right time! I ended up getting the flu two weeks ago and my appetite just wasnt there. so of course I ended up making myself some chicken and vegetable soup to have something in my stomach with my medication. This thing is awesome it cooks just like my old crock pot. I put the onions carrots celery and chicken in and let it cook for a few hours and yuuummy. It was just what I needed to help me kick some of that nasty flu out of me. Thank you Hamilton beach for such an awesome product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This cooker is so useful! It makes it so easy to cook great food. You can use it to make soups, steam vegetables, sauté, make rice and hot cereal. I've made broccoli and cauliflower plenty of times on the stove in a kettle. It turns out ok. I never knew how much better it could be until using this. I just added water to the bottom then put the tray on top and added my vegetables and butter. Then it cooked for 20 minutes. It turned out perfect. I am so amazed by this cooker. You can put a whole meal in it and let it cook on high or low depending on when you want it done. It will turn out amazing. All you have to do is the prep to add the food. It is several devices in one. It doesn't take up much room at all. It comes with a cup and spoon. It's so easy to clean out. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Great for big families. So easy to set up. All the instructions that are included thoroughly go step by step for every function. Steamer basket, measuring cup, & serving spoon are all included. I started out simple and made rice for orange chicken, and it cooked it perfectly. No crunch at all (that's an issue I have on the stove). The exterior of the unit doesn't get hot to the touch either, which is great for when kids want to help. I've gone more advanced and have made a soup too, and all the buttons and functions are easy to navigate and make starting a batch super simple. Has a nice size screen as well. And when all is said and done it's such an easy appliance to clean. This multi cooker is a fantastic appliance. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The 4.5 qt digital multi cooker is a wonderful addition to my kitchen. It's a good size for a single person. It is easy to use. There are pre-set buttons on the menu for things like cooking rice, making soup or hot cereal, and steaming vegetables. I especially like that it has a glass lid so that I can see how things are coming along as the food cooks. I can easily see the number of minutes left until the food is done; the number is in red. The lines for how much water to add for rice are clearly marked. I also really like that it has handles I can use to easily lift the inner pot out of the base! I have used it so far to make goulash, to cook different kinds of rice, and to steam vegetables. The steamed vegetables came out perfect - not underdone or mushy - in 15 minutes once the water heated up. The only draw back, which is why I didn't give it 5 stars, is that the holes in the steamer basket are too big. Some of the green beans I was steaming fell through the holes into the water below. It's okay for vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower, but French green beans will definitely fall through the basket and cook in the water below. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was in the market for a multi cooker, and after much research settled on the 'Hamilton Beach 4.5 QT Multi Cooker with Glass Lid'. I made my choice for a couple of reasons. Firstly, as the title reveals, this multi cooker has a 'glass lid'. Most of the ones I came across in my research did not. This feature is important to me in that I like to see how my meal is coming along without having to open up the cooker. It just looses too much heat that way. Secondly, I wanted a cooker that had a number of functions... without being an overwhelming amount. A few I looked at had settings for 'porridge' and such. I mean, when was the last time anyone made a batch of porridge?!? This Hamilton Beach model seemed to fit the bill. I received my Hamilton Beach 4.5 Quart Multi Cooker with Glass Lid and was immediately impressed. Firstly, I loved the fact that the lid was attached and on a spring hinge. I didn't have to worry about it getting broken or misplaced...or my cats getting into my 'cooking creation'. Secondly,I liked the removable non-stick pot. A number of the cookers I researched came with stainless steel pots. I know they are nice, but they can be a bear to clean. And third, I found the attached swing-away handle to be a nice feature. It will come in very handy in taking a batch of my meatballs over for Thanksgiving dinner. I was extremely anxious to try out my new Hamilton Beach 4.5 Qt Multi Cooker with Glass Lid. I was in the mood for chili and settled on making some in it. Rather than dirty a fry pan to brown my meat, I decided to use the 'Saute' feature on the multi cooker to do just that. I found the controls to be a little confusing having to refer to the directions a couple of times to figure it out. But after I did, things were fine. My meat browned nicely as you can see by the attached photo. I easily drained the meat using the handles built into the removable pot. Very nice feature. It was now time to load all the ingredients in the pot and get my chili cooking. I found that I could really load it up. The size of the pot is deceiving when you first look at it. But it easily held a full batch of chili. I set the 'Slow Cooker-Low' function for 8 hours and let it go. After cooking was complete, it was time to give it the 'taste test'. I must admit, it was the best batch of chili I had made in a long time. The flavor of the seasonings was nicely infused in the meat and it was nice and hot....just like I like it. I was very happy with how my Hamilton Beach 4.5 Qt Multi Cooker performed. And cleanup was a breeze. (I was worried about cleaning the glass lid being it wasn't detachable, but not a problem. It cleanup up easily.) All in all, I can highly recommend the Hamilton Beach 4.5 Qt Multi cooker. As my title suggests, it's a very capable unit that has many useful functions and works well. The control set is a little hard to figure out, but one you do, you'll be on your way to making some great meals. Five stars! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I tested the Hamilton Beach Multi Cooker & realized I was out of date! This cooker takes the place of several cooking items. I always have a mess to clean up on my stove...with the Multi all is contained...easy to clean. The settings confused me at first. Hold down the menu button until it reaches your selection...the rest is easy, add food plus right amount of water or sauce for the amount you are making. I learned not to add too much water or sauce (it will take longer to cook). I like the fact you can cook or steam such a variety: meats, seafood, rolls, rice, veggies, cereals etc. To start I cooked brown rice then added rice to stuffed pepper ingredients-placed in cooker then added sauce. Next using steamer basket cooked fresh carrots & finally frozen mixed veggies. All came out so tasty and tender with a little salt & butter. This cooker is so smart..it will let you know if water is needed. The warm feature is automatic when food is done. Being a family of two, cooking can be a challenge to make the right amount. With this cooker I can make small batches, or large for company or going to a potluck. The carrying handle is strong and makes transporting easy. Another important factor is that the lid opens by simply pressing the button! How great is that? I would definitely recommend this product. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This rice cooker takes forever to cook. 2 cups rice takes 45 mins to cook. Are you kidding me?? Plus, some parts of the cooked rice were wet and mushy. Tried all sorts of measurement but same result. Better get a traditional rice cooker with one push button which cooks 2 cups of rice in just 15mins. This product is unbelievable.

This is really nice. I love it so much. I used to own the Aroma instant pot and the interior became sticky after 2 months. It became really difficult to clean and the steam holder (the little plastic transparent container) stinks if i dont dump the water every time. But this one doesnt have any of these problems, which is surprising. I already have it for 2 months or so and it still feels like new. Cooking for 3 people or less, this is sufficient.

Any $15 throw-away rice cooker is better than this "full feature" device unless you spend $100-$150 on a Zujiroshi. It takes twice as long to cook, and then the rice is mushy, and then if you leave it to "warm" it burns the bottom layer. The mystery-metal dish has a Teflon-like coating on the inside, but the exterior black coating weirdly washed off in stages over the next couple of weeks and became discolored. I missed the return date so this is going in the trash.

My husband loves this product and uses it to cook rice, saute and as a pressure cooker. Everything he cooks in it comes out great! Apparently I need to go to cooking school as I have not had the same successes - but I don't think I can blame that on the instapot. I think I just need to take the time to read the instructions and recipies. Surely I will get better ?

It cooks and keeps rice as needed, but I was surprised by the cooking times. It takes my unit about 40 minutes to cook white rice and an hour to cook brown rice, which was disappointing because I've known other rice cookers that take only 20 minutes for white rice. Even stovetop cooking at my slowest has only been a 30-minute wait, so I'd recommend preparing rice well in advance of when you plan to eat if you decide to buy this rice cooker.

So, oops! I put the old rice cooker on top of the fridge and my other half failed to notice before opening the freezer and accidentally destroying it. Good news though is that I chose this as a replacement. Don't get me wrong, the old pot was sufficient and cost about the same despite having a larger capacity, but this pot. Wow. I am SUPER in love with the texture of the rice after having used it. No crunch and the rice has defined grains to it rather than just the mush that you get with similar cookers. It dies take longer (the last pot was about 25 minutes, this one set itself to 45 for plain white rice), but it was absolutely worth the money. Highly recommend and there was no delay in shipping/no issues with the seller :)

Works great, cooks my veggies and rice with ease! I love that it comes with a recipe/instruction book, made it easy to get started, i just hate that when i would make quinoa or rice in it there would be tons stuck to the inside of the lid which is a little challenging to clean.

I used to have an Aroma rice cooker and cooked it with bean soup, rice congee perfectly all the time for 6 years until I changed to this Hamilton rice cooker. This small cooker is okay with cooking 2 cups of rice (note: the measuring cup is less than a standard 8 oz cup). But when I cooked bean soup following the hot cereal instruction, the water spew from the air vent all over to the counter so I had to stop it! Never tried to use to cook soup/congee/cereal again. I could not find the answer from the Trouble Shooting page. Disappointed.

I bought both the Cuisinart and the Hamilton Beach (cheaper). Cooked rice in both of them to compare. The Cuisinart cooked a cup of rice in about 15 minutes. The Hamilton Beach in about 30 minutes. I believe due to the hotter cooking temperature of the Cuisinart, water boils more violently thus cause the steam to splatter (Cuisinart has a direct glass lid which has a hole in it for steam to escape, but when there were too much steam, the hole could not handle and cause steam to escape everywhere. The Hamilton Beach has a locked lid, so steam would be channeled to the capturing cup on the side instead of splattering around the lid. Each model has its own advantages. The Cuisinart has a see-through glass lid which, has a nicer stainless steel chassis, a simple Cook or Heat latch, and cooks faster. The Hamilton Beach has a locked lid so steam doesn't splatter, comes with 5 control modes (white rice, whole grain, Hot Cereal, Steam, Warm) and a time-display window. The keep warm feature on both are too warm, so they share the same disadvantage. My wife decided to keep them both. The Hamilton will be used mainly for cooking rice, while the Cuisinart will be used for cooking other dishes (vegetables,..) since she can see what going on thru the glass lid.

I've cooked rice at least once a week for years. I always just threw it in a saucepan on the stove in a 1:2 ration and let it cook. No more thought given to it then that. Sometimes it would need more time and still be crunchy, sometimes it would have a burnt layer on the bottom that I needed to soak off for a day....I didn't really care that much. Then I decided to give this rice cooker a try...I had no idea what I was missing out on! I can rinse the rice right in the basket, dump it in the cooker with the perfect amount of water, and count on the fact that I will have perfect rice everytime. For the price of this thing it is 110% worth it!!

I had purchased this for my mom since we eat a lot of rice as a Latino family and the 4 cups uncooked capacity was perfect for us and having a few guests. It does not have a 4 cup uncooked rice capacity. The box says it does, and at the time of writing this the website does as well, but upon opening it you'll find it's too small for that and the instruction manual reflects this saying it has a 2 cup capacity.

OMG this thing has made my life so much easier. I am always on the go and do a lot of meal prepping but rice just didn't keep in the fridge more than a day or two. This thing is so easy to use, I start it in the mornings when I go to work and come home to fresh hot rice at lunch time. I even throw some veggies in the top and have those steam at the same time the rice cooks. If I'm really in a time crunch I'll steam my salmon while I walk the dog. This thing is a life changer for sure. I've had 0 issues or problems with this thing after 9 months of use!

I love this rice cooker. It’s very functional and makes great rice. I love that it isn’t limited to rice as many others are. I gave low marks for easy to clean because the metal plate on the lid is not removable and nearly impossible to clean; it gets a gummy coating of rice starch that doesn’t want to come off, The actual rice bucket and steamer are a dream to clean. Eight cups of rice is pushing it a little maybe—-if you are steaming something in the basket I wouldn’t go over 3-4 cups, but it probably mentions this in the manual.

This rice cooker is just the perfect size, especially if you have a a lot of other appliances in your kitchen. It certainly cooks the rice evenly compared to cooking it on the stove. You don't have to worry about burning the bottom of the rice! Besides rice you can use this to make soups and steam vegetables!

I don't like the controls. They are not intuitive and seem quirky to adjust. I would not advise this unit and would not purchase this again. For the price, there are better and more rice makers out there. The main issue is the odd timer controls or lack of them.

I returned this rice cooker. It took over an hour just to cook rice. We had a previous rice cooker with the glass top, and it was so easy to use it. During cooking time, I was able to lift the glass lid and check or stir the rice. Also the rice was ready in 15- 20 minutes. NOT WITH THIS TYPE OF RICE COOKER. Once you lock the heavy top lid, you can't see the cooking process anymore and took an hour to cook the rice. Husband was hungry and grumpy. He wanted to re-buy the old type of ricecooker. So that's what we did. We returned this one and we bought that type of rice cooker again.

Wonderful little cooker. Having recently purchased it, we have used it four times, and each time our Jasmine rice has turned out perfectly cooked. We also have used the steamer basket to cook zucchini squash, and it too turned out perfectly. It's easy to set up and to clean. Looks clean and modern in design. It doesn't take much space on the counter top or in the storage pantry. All in all very satisfied. We will update in the future as our use continues.

I feel like the title really says it all. This is a great, versatile little cooker that does exactly what it needs to for a very good price. I've used it for everything from plain rice to chicken and mixed grains and everything has come out wonderfully. The biggest complaint I have it is that it can be quite frustrating to clean. I don't mean the steamer basket nor pot that it comes with, but rather the lid and grooves around it. I've noticed that unless you are very vigilant about wiping in between the grooves and washing down the lid (which doesn't detach so you have to place your arm at a weird angle to scrub it) after each use crust and gunk starts to build up very quickly. Finding something small enough to scrub in between the grooves can be an issue too. I've found that using a chopstick to guide a paper towel through helps, but this isn't the perfect solution. Overall I can definitely recommend this product for what it's supposed to accomplish, but do warn to save yourself some extra time for clean up with each use!

Lied about capacity . It clearly says that it holds up too 8 cups of rice. It only holds up too 4 cups of cooked rice, and arrives with this little scooper claming to be a measuring cup that does not meat standerd cup size. This is the “cup” of measurement you use. I am not upset about anything but your diseatful sales tactics. You should be ashamed of yourself.

I used the steamer to steam carrots and sweet potatoes the first time I used it and ended up staining the steamer....haven't been able to get back to white since. Otherwise, it still works great and is super versatile for making all sorts of sides and dishes. So great to be able to fill it up and walk away to let dinner cook!

I bought this to replace another rice cooker that died after many years. I chose this because of the great reviews, but I think the design is TERRIBLE. The lid is attached to the heating unit, which means that even though you can take part of the lid out and clean part of it, the "seal" attached to the unit cannot be cleaned. And, there's no proper lid to put on any leftover rice if you want to put the cooking bowl in the fridge (so you don't make even more dishes to clean). It's very difficult to lift the cooking bowl out unless it's completely cool because the lip is so small that you can't grab it with anything but your fingertips (burning them). The instructions were also not very clear, especially if you wanted to make smaller batches of rice. I'm sure there are way better designs out there.

I recently had to retire my three year old rice cooker and this one is amazing! I love the sleek design and I think it cooks my rice perfectly every time. I like that it has a little drainer that catches the water vapor when you open the lid so it doesn't just drip all back into the rice and get soggy. I haven't tried the steamer basket except to use it to rinse the rice, which works great. I think it's a great product for the price.

If you like steamed vegetables and/or rice for a very reasonable price, this item is for you! And believe me, if you’ve never eaten rice from a legitimate rice cooker you haven’t lived! Provides an efficient way to make a complete meal. The only regret is the size. It’s only big enough for a one person meal when utilizing the steam basket. For instance, a slab of salmon and a veggie will fill the basket, but you can make up to 4 cups of rice simultaneously.

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my bodybuilding teeanager. He is all about grilled chicken and rice after his gym sessions. So easy to use, that he has now taken responsibility for his own rice making. INcludes a spoon and rinsing basket. YAY. Cleans easily too. So far so good. Looks great on the counter. I also ordered the rice keeper /container to pour and measure. My boy is happy and so am I.

Trust the earlier reviews: This thing takes FOREVER to make rice, FOREVER to steam something, FOREVER to do anything. Not kidding: Brown, long stem rice, 2 cups, took almost 2 hours to finish. Are you kidding me? Basically if you want to make rice for Tuesday dinner, you should plug the thing in on Monday noon, dump in your ingredients, and walk away. Good grief. Fastest thing it will do is make a pot of white rice in 45-60 minutes, depending on its mood. It's also a joke for steaming veggies, as it takes approx 20 minutes to heat up before steaming your goods for 10 minutes or whatever time you wanted. Needless to say, sending it back. I cannot imagine a single advantage to using this thing as a cooking device over a stovetop pan with a steamer insert and lid, which will do everything this does in a fraction of the time, with far less hassle. Does anyone make a steamer that's actually faster and more convenient than stovetop cooking?

Love this! Just wish it didn't automatically keep rice warm for 45 minutes. If there is a way to not have it warm after cooking I havent figured it out. Fantastic for rice. Still working on proprtions for oatmeal -- instructions say put in rice settimg - DON't! Works better on whole grain setting, but still trying to get proprtions correct. I'm concerned that steaming fish would leave the plastic smelling like fish forever (I don't have a dishwasher). But extremely happy with it as rice cooker. If anyone knows best way to make hardboiled eggs in it please tell me!

NEAR THREE MONTH UPDATE: Today this rice cooker died and no longer works at all. What a waste of money. I had one for $20 that lasted more than a year and never had the same problems. POS and will probably never buy Hamilton Beach product again. UPDATE: Still the worst rice cooker I've ever used. I've had better luck with $12 ones. You can barely cook two cups of rice without the top blowing off as well; just in case you you think this thing has any redeeming qualities, rest assured: it does not. Completely ruins the rice. Unless you eat your rice right away this rice cooker is absolutely trash. A few hours on the warm feature and your rice is hard and there's a solid film on the bottom of the rice.

I have used cheaper rice cookers which cooked a lot faster but the quality of rice cooked wasn't the best. I am pleasantly impressed by the quality of cooking. I eat mostly Basmati Rice so unfortunately you can only cook 2 1/2 cups of Basmati using this rice cooker. The rice cooker takes little bit longer when cooking Basmati and end product is as good as cooking in a pot without having to check continuously. This cooker is ideal for two people if you are having mostly rice with your meals.

If you want a product to fail in 4 months or less buy this cooker. From one day to the next the cooker got stuck on boil and after unplugging from power, it won't come on at all. It has some nifty settings. Not well designed product because the cover door does not separate from the cooker, so the top cover is hard to clean. Many times I had to scrub the cover door while upside down under the kitchen faucet so as not to get any water into the main body compartment. I would not buy again! Even if it is a Garage Sale for $1!

I bought this to be used as a rice cooker, and it takes 45 minutes regardless of the amount of rice you're cooking. It is really a pain to clean because it's one piece. You have to leave the lid open, because the moisture inside will remain inside, unless you clean it out every time.. I ended up buying another one that has the detachable bowl and lid, so you can take that piece out and put the actual cooker away.

I love how easy it is to use. When steaming other foods at the same time as making rice, though, keep your rice to a very small volume. I tried cooking chicken with rice and too much rice cause it to not cook as nicely as I would have liked. Cooking just rice, though, it's FANTASTIC!

This aims to be a "set it and forget it" cooker for "white rice," "whole rice, or "cereal." It does that, but has issues. To use it, there are a few small but absolutely inviolable rules. First, it has a measuring cup for the rice, and, second, the cooking pot has lines for one cup, two cups etc. he "don't stray from this" parts are (1) always use the cup and make sure you measure well, and (2) when you put X cups in the rice cooker, then fill the water in the cooking pot EXACTLY to however many cups you put in. These are essential because apparently whatever insanely simple algorithm runs this thing absolutely expects and requires those things -- perfectly measured cups and a water line perfectly aligned with the embossed "numbers of cups" on the pot. I know this because everything I tried to cook with this failed horribly, undercooked or overcooked, until I learned The Two Laws of Rice. Where this starts to fall down is when you go to fill the water to the prescribed line. The cooking pot is colored a dark brown and the "cup number" indicators are deep in the pot, so you'll need either a lot of light in your kitchen or a flashlight to see how to obey The Second Law -- "measure the water perfectly." Where it gets insulting is when you look at the pot. It's thin and, I imagine, aluminum. As it sits with sticky stuff in it heating for hours, Hamilton Beach has added a non-stick coating. Unfortunately, though, it's the original 1965 Teflon coating, or at least it WORKS like -- look at it sideways and kapow, you have a scratch in your nonstick coating. (There was no nonstick coating on the inside top of the cooker, and it needs it -- rice can bake onto aluminum like, um, white on rice. The other problem is that the entire METHOD of how this works is when you offer it either all white rice or all brown/whole rice. Offer it a mix and the brown will be undercooked and the white will be library paste. And you wanted to cook WILD rice? Uh, no, can't do that. Well, you COULD, if you started from, say, two cups of wild rice all by itself, and then if you played with the water level until you found a new "wild rice" setting. Or if the thing blew up because you didn't give it a "pure white" or "pure brown" load. Kind of.

I have used this product many times. It cooks rice OK. After the rice was done, I would wipe off the inside top of the rice cooker with a paper towel or sponge to remove the residue left behind. Today, I got it out to make some quinoa, and it was coated inside with fuzzy mold. Upon greater inspection, I found black mold behind the rubber seal and in the rolled aluminum that is part of the lid. This is so disgusting and impossible to clean off unless you take the entire product apart, screws and all. And, the rolled aluminum creases remain moldy. DO NOT buy this product. I don't think it's safe. Unless you like mold...

Disappointing, returned. We've had a Zojirushi for years, and needed to replace the scratched inside pan. The replacement pan cost more than this whole Hamilton Beach unit, and since we've had to replace it every few years I thought we'd give it a shot. The rice it cooked was fine if a little softer than we liked, but the performance is just not good overall. Leaking after a few hours on warm is a major electric hazard. Unlike Zojirushi, unit turns off and will not continuously keep warm - this is nice feature when you make rice and want to keep it on hold over the course of the day for different meals. It also burned quinoa after being in the warmer for only an hour.
