Thirty percent more powerful than KitchenAid's previous 5-quart stand mixers, this remanufactured professional model efficiently tackles heavy loads with its 450-watt motor, direct-drive all-steel gear transmission, and bowl-lift lever. The latter function is particularly convenient, as it effortlessly raises heavy ingredients up to the beater to make mixing more efficient. In addition, the mixer is constructed of durable die-cast metal, ensuring long-lasting use, and comes in an attractive onyx black color that complements both modern and classic kitchens.

With a choice of 10 speeds and three attachments--flat beater, spiral dough hook, and stainless-steel wire whip--the mixer handles everything from egg whites to meat loaf to pizza dough. Rather than rotating the bowl, KitchenAid stand mixers feature a fixed bowl with a unique mixing action: the beater spins clockwise while the shaft spins counterclockwise, thus projecting the beater to 67 different points inside the 5-quart stainless-steel bowl. In deference to its power, the Soft-Start feature prevents splashing and flour clouds by gearing up to each speed gradually. Once started, the electronic speed sensor kicks in to maintain a constant speed even when mixing the thickest batter.

This is a refurbished mixer, works great but had trouble with adjusting the beater to go down because the screw was overturned when inspected. It's still not as low as it should be but otherwise works good [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I love the mixer. It was great for doing my cookie bake for Christmas. However, the part on the side of the bowl that holds it onto the mixer broke off! The weld on it failed. A replacement bowl is pretty expensive, so I'm definitely upset about it. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We have had a KitchenAid stand mixer in our home for several years, and we purchased this for our winter home. It arrived in perfect condition, and it works great. This is our first experience with a refurbished product, and we are not disappointed. It appears to be new. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I was given this less than a year ago and it is already broken. I don't use it that often, so it didn't break because of usage but because it's a very expensive product that works as if I were really cheap. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

KitchenAid continually makes great products and this is no exception. The company I purchased from did not disclose that my product was refurbished so I'm a bit upset with that, but it runs great, it's clean, you wouldn't be able to tell it was a refurbished product. It's insanely loud when it runs, but it's something I'll deal with for the work it does. Any KitchenAid product is going to cost a bit, but you get exactly what you pay for. Well worth the investment. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

We bought it right before Thanksgiving. And we have used it every possible moment we can. Not only does it handle bread and kneading like a champ, but it kills everything else. I need to get more bowls so I can switch them out when I am baking. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I bought this model mixer in January of 2002 as a factory re-conditioned model from Amazon. What a deal! I use it all the time... in fact, it "lives" on my countertop ready to go... I never put it away. I prefer this model over the Artisan series and other smaller models because it has the power to knead stiff doughs, and the added capacity really helps too. I have also used the larger Professional 6-quart capacity model where I work, and that would've been overkill for my personal use at home. My favorite accessory for this machine is the  KitchenAid KICA0WH Ice Cream Maker Attachment , which gets used weekly at my house year-round. Whether I'm churning ice cream for 10 - 20 minutes, or whipping egg whites at a high speed, I've never worried about the motor burning up, and I've never had any kind of problem with it after nearly ten years of daily/weekly use.

I love this mixer. It was a great deal on a terrific mixer at an affordable price. I thought I had a problem with the mixer as the bowl would not stay in place so I e-mailed the manufacturer and asked them about the problem. They emailed me back and told me to press down on the back of the bowl until it clicks in place, or contact them again if it needed repair. Well, they were right I hadn't locked the bowl in place, but am now. I had two Sunbeam mixers before this. One was returned to the store and one is headed for the trash. This machine does anything and it does it well. Thanks Amazon, you did it again

This is a mean working machine. I love it. Works great! I use this all the time and clean up is a snap. I was a little worried purchasing a reconditioned mixer, but I couldn't be happier. The price was right.

I bought this mixer primarily for making yeast breads; there are a lot of great dough formulas out there that are really too wet to work by hand. I have used it ~10 times now for bread and other baked goods and have been very satisfied. It looked brand-new when I opened the box. At first I thought there might be a problem, because I couldn't seem to adjust the bowl height to provide clearance for the mixing attachments (there's a little screw for making minor adjustments, but I still couldn't get the clearance). Then I realized I just hadn't pushed the bowl all the way down in the back, where it snaps into place. The bowl is wide enough that I can theoretically add additional flour etc. while the mixer is running, but there's less chance of mess if I stop the mixer and lower the bowl (plus it's usually necessary to scrape down the bowl a couple of times early in the mixing process). The motor has no problem kneading stiff doughs with the dough hook; the top of the machine barely gets warm even after over 5 minutes of continuous kneading. This is a great machine. (But the casual baker probably doesn't need this model; it's quite large and heavy-duty.)

Got it when it when on sale, but would have paid more for it. This is a much nicer product than an Artisan and has all the benefits of a Pro 6 without the cost. All the professional models come with all-metal gears, unlike the more popular Artisan or cheaper Classic. The bowl lift model is different than the tilt head most are used to, but I think it is great; you don't have to worry about the tilt head clearing a cabinet either. Yes it's both heavy and loud, but it's a high quality product and I don't feel that those negatives would be worth getting a different model. Also, it says under the "What's in the box" only the flat-head beater, but mine also came with the wire whip and the spiral dough hook. Would never know this is refurbished, a great savings in my opinion.

Why buy new when you can get one for $162.00 plus free shipping? I have made pancakes, mashed potatoes, meatloaf, bread and countless cookies and bars with this bad boy and it just takes all that I can dish out. It is a bit big but it needs to be with such a large motor. All the utensils are easy to wash but they can go through the dishwasher as well. This mixer makes baking and cooking fun again, it is all hands free!! You just pour your ingredients in the bowl and the mixer will take care of the rest! One thing to consider: Do NOT pick the wrong color, meaning if they are having a closeout on orange and you really want red or black, be patient and wait for the color you want. This will be sitting on your counter for 15 or more years. Also, consider the room between the bottom of your cupboard and your countertop. I do not have a lot of room so I chose the model that goes up and down, not the model that arches back. If you do not have a lot of room you should pick the model that goes up and down, otherwise you'll have to move it to where you have more height every time you use it. Did that make sense? This product weighs 25 pounds so putting it in one place and leaving it there is important. It comes with three attachments: a wire whisk, a flat beater and a spiral hook for breads. The flat beater, at first glance, does not look like it can do a lot of work but let me tell you: it can and it does. It is just so much fun (and tasty) to throw stuff in there and let the mixer do the work. My kids and I really enjoy baking and what a nice alternative to Playstation 2! And let's be honest: Stuff from scratch really does taste better. There are other attachments as well: a meat grinder, a juicer, a slicer, but I am passing on those at this time as I own a Vita-Mix which chops stuff up very well. I really recommend this mixer.

Buying reconditioned is the way to go. It looked like it had never been used. Why spend $450+ when you can spend $199.99?! It has a little trouble powering though really tough mixtures (like stiff royal icing). If you are going to do HEAVY mixing, I would suggest getting a slightly more powerful mixer (like the Professional 6)Otherwise, it's great for day to day mixing!

For those of you wondering whether you should get the 5 quart or 6 quart size, this machine is enormous. I'm still getting use to it, learning how to make batches of batter for a single cake or whip one egg. The stuff sits waaay down on the bottom of this huge bowl. It is very powerful, so much so that if you don't use a splatter shield, your ingredients will end up covering your kitchen. Also, if your recipe calls for mixing two types of ingredients (e.g., mix flour-baking powder-salt and oil-sugar-eggs), you need two bowls. I bought an extra bowl and a splatter shield. Most receintly, I bought the ice cream maker attachment, but I haven't tried it yet. There is almost no price variability on these KA stand mixers. If they go "on sale", it's for $20 off. Whooo Hoooo on a $300-$500 machine. I bought a reconditioned one, and so far I think it works ok. They are heavy and take up a lot of room, so plan carefully where you are going to use and store it.

I love my mixer! It makes everything a tad bit easier. It came with all the proper attachments and looked brand new. For that price, you can't go wrong.

Wow, we absolutely love this mixer! We have used it for pizza, bread dough, pancake/waffle batter, plus many other things. It handles anything we throw at it. And I love the fact that because the bowl itself doesn't move, it is very firmly held in place. Have not had any problems at all with this mixer, and have had it now for almost a year. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone else looking for a mixer.
