Cuisinart (CRC-400) Rice Cooker Customer Reviews
Chicken and rice is my favorite dish! This is the best rice cooker I've ever bought and I've bought four of them. The steamer is great for boiled shrimp and rice!

I was tepid to buy after reading other reviews, but I did anyway. I followed the instructions that came with the unit, and surprise, lol it worked as described. Absolutely no mess at all, nicely cooked rice. Very easy to add in herbs, etc to flavor the rice more too. I really don't understand how people are making such a huge mess. Just read the booklet and follow the instructions.

Works pretty well so far. The rice I have made with it has turned out well. I haven't yet used it for anything besides rice and grains though.
One thing I will mention is that it is very important to thoroughly rinse your rice, because the starches will otherwise bubble up with the water and steam and create a huge mess. I usually rinse my rice 3 to 6 times, but with certain types of rice that wasn't enough to keep it from making a mess. With white rice it shouldn't be an issue though.
It's also not very big, but it probably makes enough for 2 to 4 people. The small size wasn't a problem for me since I am usually just cooking for myself, but larger households might want to get a 6 or 8 cup one.

This is my first rice cooker, and now I understand why people love them so much! It cooks any kind of rice, and if you follow their directions, it comes out perfectly AND stays warm until you are ready to eat! How can it figure out how long to cook white rice AND brown rice? Their cooking times are so different! I think this is the best brown rice I have ever made and/or eaten! It was delicious, and done to perfection. (I already had white rice figured out years ago, but brown rice has been another challenge).
I have not yet used it for steaming vegetables, but based on the rice cooking, I know it will turn out just fine.
The Cuisinart Rice Cooker is so easy to use and to clean up as well. It comes. with its own rice measuring cup (why?) and plastic bumpy textured spatula for dishing up rice. The spatula is very nice, indeed, for keeping the rice on top of it and not spilling a single grain.
I am one happy customer! Cuisinart comes through again for me!

Looks nice and does the job. Easy to use. We only ever cook 2 cups of dry rice at a time, so we don't push the capacity limits. It does still bubble up to the lid. I always put a slice of butter in, so Ive never had it over flow. I have not used the steamer yet, but i can imagine the rice bubble goo bubbling up an getting all over whatever you are steaming.
I am over all please with the purchase.

Bought this to replace the older one (same model) we bought used in a thrift store that finally conked out after 8 years. Looks to be the same quality of construction, we're using the pot, steamer and lid from the old unit as they're still in fine shape, it was the heater unit that burnt out. 8 years for used small appliance used 2-3 times a week is not bad. I scanned what was available nowadays for a replacement, and didn't see anything comparable.
This is the only smaller unit I've seen that has the separate steaming basket, so you can do rice and veggies together. Smaller than most toasters, it's very compact but very versatile. We also use it for cooking small potatoes, hard-cooked eggs, steaming fish and heating up leftovers. Comes with a useful operation and recipe book.
Only advice I'd give, especially if you have hard water, is to buy an extra pot from cuisinart, and use one for steaming only and the other for rice. When just boiling water in it for steaming, it will collect minerals deposits after awhile, so nice to have clean one just for rice cooking. After mucking up our first pot we only put filtered water in it.

I love this rice cooker. My parents have this rice cooker at home. My sister and her kids and husband have this rice cooker at home. It’s wonderful because you can use the basket to steam vegetables at the same time, which means you could make 2/3 of your meal with a push of a button. I’ve seen reviews talking about how it overflows but I’m not exactly sure what that’s about since I’ve never had it happen. I use cold water to rinse the rice and then to cook it because I know that usually helps with the over boiling of starch. This is a definite recommendation for me. It also takes up less counterspace than my previous rice cooker.

I have never been able to make sticky rice, until now. My family is so happy they have made me make it everyday since I got my new rice cooker. This is the 12th rice cooker I have purchased over the last three years trying to make sticky rice. If that’s what you’re trying to make this is the perfect rice cooker. You can also steam veggies at the Sam time. Not to mention it takes less than a minute to clean it. It’s the best all around!

I was just commenting to my wife last night that I don't know how we went so long without getting a rice cooker. I could NEVER cook rice correctly, it would always boil over, and never had the delicious sticky texture. Throw a cup of rice and a cup of water in this thing, hit the button and in 10 minutes you have perfectly cooked rice every time. Amazing and cheap. Clean-up is a breeze too - the inner shell wipes clean very easy even with dried on rice.

I pride myself in making perfect rice on the stove - but this rice maker is awesome! Fast, easy and perfect rice. I love the look of this rice maker too, it goes well with my other small appliances. I'm a big fan of Cuisinart.

Love the ease of using this rice cooker. The one thing that is annoying and this applies to all rice cookers I've used, is that they spit past the cover when cooking. It makes for a mess to clean up. The manufacturers need to put their heads together and make a spitless rice cooker. Other than that I am very pleased with this cooker and it is a very attractive appliance.

t is easy to clean. Love everything except the warm feature. I just want to push the button and leave the house. I don’t leave anything on when I leave the house except the house alarm. Sometimes if the rice cooker is fuller and the rice is more starchy, it would make a mess. You just have to cook less, not to the rim and always put the steamer on. Washing the rice and soaking it overnight helps. Besides your belly won’t swell up. It would be perfect if the warm feature is off.

I bought this rice cooker about 3 months ago. I eat rice as well as other grains (barley, quinoa - which I also cook in this cooker) multiple times per week. I have used the rice cooker to cook all of it, and have had no negative results whether cooking brown rice or white rice. I use the rice-water ratio according to the package, and usually add no fat or other ingredients - just the rice and water. The only sputtering I have experienced is right around the steam escape hole on the lid, where some rice starch collects during cooking. As I have to wash the lid anyway, this is not a problem at all. I have cooked up to 3 cups (rice measurement) and as little as 1 cup (rice measurement) plus the required amount of water. No overflow. No mess.
Maybe the product has been improved from when the prior reviewers bought theirs - but I don't see any issues at all.
In addition, please be aware that:
- the cord retracts right into the cooker itself - and pulls out smoothly. A big plus in my opinion.
- the unit looks wonderful on my counter, and due to its size and shape takes up half the space of the big clunky round unit I used to have (before my daughter fried the cord). I wanted something that I could leave on the counter, and this fits the bill.
Highly recommended!

Excellent product. Cooks rice perfectly. Easy to clean. Power cord is retractable so no messy wires. My only tweak is I added an on/off switch to the outlet so when not in use is completely turned off. The larger size gives room for adding vegetables and other things to the rice without overflowing.

I love this not only because you can steam fish or vegetables but it is pretty and a great rice cooker! I have cooked many batches of rice in this machine, I wanted to clarify the reason the brown rice appears to not be done on other reviews has to do with the simple fact that you have to use more water when cooking brown rice. It's as simple as that. I love this!

This is the second Cuisinart CRC-800 8-Cup Rice Cooker I've owned. I use it regularly for so much more than cooking just rice or quinoa (which is does wonderfully). I use the basket for steaming eggs (which is actually, in my opinion, the best way to make hard-boiled or soft-boiled eggs), steaming vegetables, and cooking fish. It is a handy compliment to the kitchen :) It's also easy to clean. The pot needs to be hand washed but the basket and lid, I just throw in the dishwasher. The base just gets wiped with a cloth.

Not my first rice cooker, as a matter of fact I have another ( that I hate) stored away deep in the dark confines of a cupboard. Within one hour of receiving this I put it to the test. Excellent rice.... Can't wait to use the steamer....

To all the people comlaining about the water spilling over, just like in the video the guy posted below. You don't put the lid directly on top. You still need to put the steamer pot on top even when you're not using it.

I hate making rice - I only occasionally get it exactly the way I want - usually too wet, or overcooked, or dry.
This has been perfect for me. Don't know about the issues related to self-altering the ratios or adding covers, but I was pretty happy with the outcome. The rice was perfect (I did 3 cups dry long grain) and worked very well. It does sputter out the top a bit during some of the cooking that got on the counter, but I can live with that - just need to remember to put out some paper towels just in case. I'm very pleased.

Really good! We use the hell out of our rice cookers. Read the reviews on proper use and you'll be just fine with this one. Compact, stainless steel and fast. Well worth the money. Used 25 times before writing this review.

Love this little rice pot! I don't boil or microwave veggies, so this is wonderful when rice is part of the dish. I use it 2-5 times a week.
When I first learned to cook good rice 35 years ago, I was told 3 secrets. One was to let rice sit 1/2 hour after cooking, so the warm feature is a must for me.
Unfortunately, if I store the lid on top of pot, it slides off when I take it out, so I store it separately.
Veggies at our home are always steamed, never boiled so the steamer is an added bonus. I was skeptical at first, but after it put out fresh broccoli cooked just right as the rice cooked. Perfect for my small family!

Have been using a micro cooker for rice for several years. Spoke with a Japanese lady asking how she cooked rice after mentioning my method. She uses this machine without any failure. Purchased this and boy was she right. Just make sure you follow the directions and really perfect fluffy rice.
May 7, 2016 Unfortunately, my comments above still are to my liking but because of my fault, I burnt this one up. With that said, have read several comments from others that if you place the stimer basket on the cook pot instead of the lid, you have little boil over.. So, wola, fantastic. I have spent $50 on a new one because of my lack of knowledge. We use this cooker at least 2 time a week. Simply fantastic way of cooking rice. Now, I use brown rice and must add another cup of water. So, be aware!!! I love this cooker!

I really like this rice cooker. I was hesitant to buy a cheap one, and didn't want to buy one that was too expensive. So this one worked out great. Cooks well and simple to use. I do give a quick spray to the bottom with a non-stick cooking spray and/or a pad of butter to the mix. A little more water than recipes call for always helps, too. No burning and easy clean up. So far, very happy with my purchase.
I like that it's stainless steel so I can leave it out to match my other appliances. I've always had good luck with Cuisinart products and don't hesitate on this brand. Great quality, value, and like that they have spare parts directly available from their company website online. What's not to like?

Originally I was nervous about purchasing this product because I saw a lot of reviews stating that the rice/water always bubbles over onto the counter and left a starchy mess. I read a tip somewhere to leave the steamer basket on top of the rice cooker (with the lid on) even if you’re not steaming anything to prevent spill overs...and I have never had a single mess. This product makes consistently delicious rice and grains and couldn’t be easier to operate. Clean up is fast and easy. Would recommend to anyone.
