Is there any way to set how long to cook manually as opposed to the programmed times?

This was a gift for my daughter-in-law... she seems happy with it, but I don’t know how it works. Silly review, but you asked for one!!!!

Perfect little rice cooker! Easy to clean, easy to use and perfect rice without any hassle.

I bought this in expectation of it being a 3L that holds 12 cups cooked rice 6 cups uncooked, but I received a 1 Liter which only holds 6 cups cooked rice. I sent back and told them it was the wrong size not once but TWICE and each time I was sent the 1L size. So 3 wrong sizes later I decided to buy another brand.

I was worried about the positive reviews being all bots but I figured I give this rice cooker a chance. While the removable parts might be daunting to someone it turns out they are very easy to clean if you just wipe out the steam after use. The rice settings work nicely I will test the rolled oats sometime and maybe update but given the good experiences with rice so far I'm sure it will be fine. I did take to heart the warning some people gave about the keep warm setting possibly burning rice so I just unplug when it's done cooking and the rice has been fluffed. Easy to care for if you make the effort after each use.

Rice comes out great every time! A few extra pieces needed to clean each time, but not unmanageable. Overall, I'm really liking this robe cooker!

Makes rice a good base to put stew over.

Steamed rice so soft, great taste. Simple to use as well as cleaning. I Recommended to friends, they love it.

I like Toshiba, and It is a good product. The only thing I don't like about it is that it takes too long to cook the rice. It takes one hour to cook while it takes other brands between 15 to 25 minutes. To me, it does not matter what electric rice cookers brand you use, the rice would still turn out to be the same if you follow the instruction correctly.

This product is very easy to use, clean and store. The included manual was easy to navigate, understand and quite in-depth. The rice is perfect and delicious. Cleanup takes only about three minutes. I'm very happy with this rice cooker.

I always wanted a fancy rice cooker that I see in K-Dramas or C-Dramas. This rice cooker seemed like it was easiest to use for me than most of the other ones out there. I tried it for the first time yesterday when it arrived for white rice. Let me tell you: I've always either use a pot on the stove or a cheap $30 rice cooker, but this....THIS! It made my rice fluffier, stickier (which my kids love), and doesn't burn at the bottom of the pot (my cheap rice cooker did that when kept warm). You could also keep the rice warm for up to 24 hours without fear of it burning at the bottom. This is definitely worth the investment! I'm so excited to explore more options I can make through the rice cooker (like porridge)!

Perfect rice every time

I've owned 3 zojirushi's, a Tiger, and now, A Toshiba. The Toshiba is the best one yet. I retired my most recent, a Zojirushi, due to the deteriorating condition of the bowl, which was missing a lot of chips of teflon which, I assume, I ate. I bought the Toshiba because of reviews which specifically lauded the bowl. I can tell you that the bowl is 2-3 times heavier than the bowl in my Zojirushi, and the whole cooker reflected the same superior quality of design and construction. A wholly superior product. The rice, incidentally, is excellent, and clean-up, is a breeze. Highly recommended.

Straightforward rice cooker. Easy to clean. The rice tastes like it should. One con is its size and storeability. It is an awkward shape and a little bigger than most cookers I've seen.

The Toshiba rice cooker works well so far. I clean the rice in another bowl then dump the rice into the non stick pot. It comes with measuring cup and has lines inside the pot to fill up to water level like 2 cups of rice needs water filled to #2 line in the pot. From there you can adjust how moist you want the rice and keep in mind rice from different countries may cook differently. It has other options like brown rice, multi-grain, porridge, etc. The rice is cooked evenly and I do not see any area where the rice is cooked more than other areas in the pot.

First time spending this much on a rice cooker but it was 100% worth it. Coming from a Tiger rice cooker that was cooking unevenly and on it’s way out. I must say that this is an upgrade.

I got this item during Amazon Prime Day as usually goes for $150 but was around $100. I had an old cheap rice cooker and the rice was sticking to it as nonstick coating was't workig anymore. So I finally decided to upgrade to a nicer one during Amazon prime day. It is nice size for my family of 3. It cooks rice good. It had nice quick rice feature to cook rice in 30 minutes. Taste pretty good even if fast. Easy to clean up. Overall good.

Looking in the book under troubleshooting they tell you in one step to NOT soak rice before cooking and under that they tell you to soak the rice. No help at all. Very easy to cook, just add rice and water to the guide line and you will be all set. Notice that if you want your rice soft and not dry add a little more and your cook time will automatic drop less than 10 mins

The most important thing for a rice cooker is that the cooked rice is delicious，it did not disappoint me！

I'm new to rice makers, so I may get the hang of it and be glad I have it. The instructions for making rice are vague and basic... "white" or "quick" options for my white Basmati were both too long apparently. My first attempt gave us overcooked rice. My first impression is this thing is HUGE and I don't know where to store it'1

Just cooked white rice and it was so easy! I love to cook and this rice cooker/steamer is of high quality and easy to use. I've purchased products from the high priced brand name and yes, they are good, but for the price/food outcome, this Toshiba rice cooker is a great deal. I was looking to order the higher-priced Toshiba model, but it wasn't in stock and I have not regrets with this one. The white rice I made was tender and fluffy. I read the owner's manual before cooking. It was simple and straightforward. The clean up was a breeze. I even made room on my counter to keep it out (looks like a mini boombox, very cute). I'm ready to try other types of rice and recipes. Perhaps the only improvement could've been a recipe booklet? I've heard you can make cakes, soups, etc. Time to search online. Very happy with this product!

I have been using this cooker for several times now and the rice is cooked perfectly, tastes good, much better than the Cuisinart one I had before. Nice design. The only cons is that the inner pot capacity is smaller than it supposes to . I usually cook 3-4 cups of uncool Jasmine rice and is a little bit less than 6 cups cooked rice (Under the 6-cups max mark inside the pot. I am pretty sure it can't be 12 cups cooked rice. Overall, I like this rice cooker very much. No doubt with products made in Japan.

It was time to replace my old Aroma rice cooker and I'm so glad that I chose this as a replacement. Cooks good rice every time, and I mean every single time. Consistency is important when cooking rice. Set the timer and 50 minutes later you have a fresh cooked rice. I can leave the rice in warm state for more than 12 hours and still taste freshly cooked. Worth the extra cost as an investment.

I. Love. This. Thing. Best rice cooker ive ever had. Different cooking modes. Timed cooking. Should've bought one years ago. Asian style rice cookers should be the only option domestically. They're just better.

I've had this rice cooker for a bit over a month now, and make use of it every day. It has cooked my calrose and jasmine rice perfectly every time, and I've been able to have rice ready to eat at all hours of the day by making use of the timer and keep warm feature. None of the rice ever burns, which is an issue I've had with rice cookers in the past, so cleaning and maintaining the non-stick insert doesn't require much effort. The inner lid and the steam vent can also both be removed to clean and dry, making it easy to prevent the accumulation of bacteria and mold. This rice cooker makes consistently great rice, and is designed for easy cleaning and maintenance. In just a month it has saved me a lot of time and money, and is more than worth the $129.99 I paid for it.

The box of cooker was torn at the top, so I am hoping this was not a previously used- returned item. Disappointed. It is not as convenient or easy to make returns during this pandemic.

Cooks good rice and keeps warm with drying out or melting it. But I returned it because it did not have a reservoir to catch the water when opening the lid after cooking.

As a total Japan nerd, being able to get a Toshiba rice cooker is more than I dream of since some time ago, let alone at a reasonable price! It is working wonderfully with the multi functions. It is also of the right weight for a hard-working Japanese style rice cooker. Compact and easy to carry as well! Sometimes I don’t have the time to soak my multigrain rice and the cooker still cooks multigrain thoroughly and deliciously. You won’t be wrong to trust the traditionally advanced Japanese rice cooking wares!

Product was much too complicated and not what I wanted. Nothing like the write up. When I went to return seller would not include postage. It would have cost them $2 or $3 with their discount???

I was able to set the rice cooker up in minutes. Then place my first 4 cups of Daipoong Gold rice and presto in 30 minutes (quick cook mode), I was able to have an excellent rice bowl. The standard cooking mode is 50 minutes, and rice comes out with more moisture and softness like a bowl of rice my mom would make. It's just the right size with a maximum of 6 cups. I even made some rice porridge to boot. I'm sure I will continue to make all kinds of wonderful dishes of delight with this portable cooker.

This is my first rice cooker. I wanted a Japanese style one from a brand I knew or a brand that was trusted in this field. I ended up choosing toshiba for the price and capacity they offered. This thing is amazing. I’ve made basmati and a Japanese sticky rice in it and both have turned out perfect multiple times. It is super easy to clean up and makes getting perfect rice effortless. Couldn’t be happier with the purchase.

Cooks any type of rice to perfection at the push of a single button. It is a high quality rice cooker that has additional features. Although I haven't tried all the other features I'm confident that this awesome rice cooker will not dissapoint.

I like that is easy to clean, very simple instructions however my rice comes out to dry needs to be eaten immediately otherwise the texture is hard and flavorless.

Easy to work rice cooker! planning to get one for my mom.

I love rice and this cooker makes perfect rice every time. This is especially important if you are buying organic jasmine rice. We were previously burning 10% of our rice. Rice is an easy leftover. We like perfect rice. Toshiba delivers perfect rice at a fair price.

We eat brown rice often - always perfect. So easy. I especially like the keep warm feature. Even if it sits and is warmed for a while, the consistency is still just right.

Everything about this rice cooker is awesome. The flavor is awesome and I am only cooking Jasmine rice for now, I turn it on leave and voila 50 minutes later it is cooked to perfection. Here its a secret, all rice must be washed and rinsed multiple times until the water runs clear, this removes the starch from the rice so when your body digests it it will not turn into sugar and make you fat!

We were constantly cleaning the stove top because the rice water would boil over. We love to cook Basmati rice and had to stay near the stove to monitor and deal with rice water boil overs. Now we can put the rice into the cooker and walk away. No more boil overs and messy stove top to clean. The rice is tender and moist!

This is my first big kitchen applicance since I moved in my new apartment and I couldn't be more pleased. I've been thinking about purchasing a rice cooker for a few months now but never followed through. But then I ran across this bad boy and couldn't pass it up.

I ordered it and then they arrived super quick and the rice cooker looks so fancy sitting on my kitchen counter that I don't mind leaving it out. And it looks so sleek fabulous that my roommate is now excited to have our new rice cooker and to use it!!!

Unfortunately for me life got hectic as soon as this item arrived so I haven't been able to test it out yet. But I have researched several recipes and I am excited to put this rice cooker to the test. Plus I've read that you can make other dishes besides rice dishes as well with this so I am so looking forward to put my creativity to the test.

I'll be back soon to update my review after taking this rice cooker for a test drive :)

Product easy to use. Rice cooks great every time.

I’m an amateur cooker but to be honest cooking rice in a regular pot does not work to me. I tried many different recipes but still the same issue. So I had an idea to purchase a rice cooker and the machine is amazingly awesome. You just need to mix the rice and the water (onion, salt, etc) and select the right mode and that’s it. In about 30 minutes is done and you are able to enjoy a delicious rice. I liked a lot.

Mom approved. The Toshiba TRCS01 rice cooker is an awesome small kitchen appliance. It makes rice beautifully. It's lightweight and compact so it won't take up too much counter space. It's easy to use. The functions are pretty straightforward. It's easy to clean. The inner plate with sealing ring on lid actually comes out and can be washed. The vent steam reservoir can also be removed to be emptied and washed. A minor con is when the lid is opened after "keep warm", some condensation drips down onto the rim at the hinge. But its nothing that can't be wiped with a paper towel. Some improvements I would like to suggest to the company is 1) make the cooking time manual adjustable and 2) longer cord. I tried to adjust the minutes down but it just cooks at the preset temps. I would still recommend this rice cooker to anyone. I'm still extremely happy with it. Definitely worth a 5 star rating for price and quality.

I really like how this one just shuts off when done. That is a feature that is hard to find. Now I don’t have to remember to unplug the rice cooker to keep the bottom layer of rice from getting overdone. can be used to make many dishes, other than plain rice: jambalaya, rice and beans, mushroom rice, ahi tuna with shiitake - all can be accomplished with this

I’m really surprised at the flawed workmanship and quality of the Toshiba Rice Cooker. On the outside it looked great. It has the latest feature with “fuzzy logic” that many other brands promote. It has a non-stick pot. And it has multiple settings for the different kinds of grains and rice that you may cook. It doesn’t have the sauté option found in some other brands but I don’t mind it so much as long as the core functionality (as a rice cooker) is solid. The rice cooker comes with a nice carrying handle and a display screen with multiple settings. What you also see is how Toshiba’s quality control has gone downhill. Look at the measurement lines on the pot in the photos I attached. It’s so crooked that you cannot honestly cook more than 4 cups with any type of confidence. If Toshiba’s been making rice cookers for the past 75 years and couldn’t get this part right, then it’s failed in the rice cooker department. Regardless of how many software features Toshiba adds, the core functionality of a rice cooker SHOULD include straight and aligned measurement lines.

I've been using a Zojirushi NS-TGC10 for nearly 10 years now and it is going strong and I love it. We've recently started making more variety of things in it and thought a second rice cooker could be nice--that way we can make both brown rice and white rice for dinner and people who want one or the other can have their preference. OR we can make overnight oatmeal, have some left over and staying warm and still have rice for lunch or dinner that day. Stuff like that. As referred to above, we like to make steel cut oats in our rice maker. For the Zojirushi NS-TGC10 (let's call that "Zoji" from here on out), we set it up overnight, set the delay timer and have breakfast in the morning. It works pretty well, but I noticed that this Toshiba TRCS01 has a specific steel oats setting, so it seemed to be a great fit for what we wanted. Turns out it did very well with steel cut oats. More on that below... I wanted to test these cookers out head-to-head and see how they did. If you want the final verdict, I'd say this did just fine, but the Zoji did better overall. Here are the things I noticed: 1) The cord on the Zoji is retractable and makes the whole unit store very nicely. This one has a detachable cord--the same style you would see on a desktop computer or monitor. It works fine, but it pokes out and so you have to detach it and put it somewhere to get it to store as well. +1 point for the Zoji 2) The Zoji has a little paddle holder which is really nice when you are using it. This one does not. +1 more for the Zoji. Both have a detachable lid shield which you need to clean between uses. The Toshiba has an added feature where the lid won't close if you don't have this shield in place. That could be good, I suppose, but I've never forgotten the shield on the other. 3) Although the Zoji says it will cook 5 cups of rice and this says it will do 6, it turns out the inner pots are exactly the same size. The Toshiba is just a bit heavier (40g, to be precise), which I would expect means you should get a more even cooking result, except that the Zoji is already pretty darn even. Note, however, that the 6 cups ONLY applies to white rice. The instructions make it very clear that if you are cooking anything else, it is not recommended to go more than 3 or 4. I didn't try it out and see how it went, but I suspect it could handle 5 just fine simply because the Zoji for sure does 5 just fine--I HAVE tried that many times over the years. 4) I was rather dismayed to see that the inner pot markings on the Toshiba have 1 set of lines for white rice and 1 set of lines for porridge and that's it. No brown rice lines. No steel cut oats lines. Nothing like that. The Zoji has white rice, sushi rice, brown rice, and porridge. I was going to jump straight to +1 for Zoji, but then it occurred to me--maybe it does SOMETHING so that the brown rice setting actually uses the same amount of water. I doubted it, but thought I'd try it out. so... 5) I cooked 2 cups of brown rice in the Zoji and in the Toshiba using the exact same amount of rice in both (the cups you measure out with are the same) and being very careful to fill to the designated lines with the same temperature of water. Just for reference, I also cooked 2 cups of brown rice in my Instant Pot. The Instant Pot requires a recipe for brown rice, so I had to measure the water out using the cups instead of lines, but then I got them all started. Not surprisingly, the Instant Pot finished first by like 20 minutes or something. Toshiba finished second and Zoji finished last. It was actually interesting--both Zoji and Toshiba say they use fuzzy logic, but the Toshiba does not vary the cooking time at all. For brown rice, it is always going to be 90 minutes. The Zoji doesn't know how long it is going to cook until it is well into the process because it is determining the best amount of time based on the cooking conditions. As it turned out, the Toshiba finished 90 minutes after starting and it wasn't until a minute or two after that the Zoji even displayed a finish time of 10 minutes (remaining). Does the Toshiba use fuzzy logic? I can't say, but it doesn't vary the time, that's for sure. And the cooking results? All taste testers (me, my wife, and a couple of the kids) said that, hands down, the Zoji had the best texture -- the rice was soft but not at all mushy. The Instant Pot came in second, although the rice was a bit more on the mushy side. The Toshiba was boarding on crunchy, but I wasn't super surprised since brown rice needs more water than white and they only gave us white rice measurements. I added extra water (80 ml) to the Toshiba and let all cookers sit overnight. In the morning, the Instant Pot had burned a thick layer of rice to the bottom, so it was out of the running. The Toshiba rice had softened nicely and was now quite edible. The Zoji was still the best. I was going to take the rice out and stick it in the fridge, but had something else to take care of and forgot about it until the next day. When I came back, the Toshiba had turned itself off (turns out, it auto-turns off after 24 hours). The Zoji was showing that it was 36 hours since it finished cooking. Neither had really degraded flavor and texture-wise, other than the fact that the Toshiba was now cold rice and that's not so good. Verdict? Zoji does the best brown rice by far. Instant Pot cooks the fastest and isn't any harder since you have to do the same amount of measuring as the Toshiba, however, it does not do well keeping warm for more than a couple hours. Zoji wins. Well, next I thought I'd try steel cut oats, since the Toshiba had that as a specific setting. Neither model has measurement lines for oats, so I just used the same amount of oats and water for both (2c oats, 3x that much water which took us to the #4 line for rice). Again, the cook time was predetermined in the Toshiba, but the Zoji didn't know until much later how long until it would be done. I had both cook overnight with the delay timer. It is also interesting to note that the Zoji very much overestimates how long it will take and finished nearly 1 hour early. There was an awful lot of beeping while setting the delay timers on both models, but even more on the Toshiba than the Zoji. HOWEVER, when it started cooking, the Zoji plays this little melody which goes on for several seconds whereas the Toshiba just does an ascending set of 4 beeps (like a video game power up sort of sound). Since I set the delay timer to start cooking in the wee hours of the morning, I don't want a bunch of sounds to wake me up just to let me know it started cooking, so Toshiba did better here. And the results? Turns out the Toshiba's oats had a better texture than the Zoji. Just the right amount of snap in each grain without being crunchy. Toshiba won this one. BOTTOM LINE: The Toshiba did fine. It's lack of measuring lines inside are its biggest weakness, but its steel cut oats setting does a very nice job. I'd take the Zoji over the Toshiba any day, but if I only had the Toshiba, I wouldn't try and "upgrade" to the Zoji because it does perfectly well.

First time using a rice cooker! I have always used instant rice because I could not cook rice for the life of me !! Finally finally I was able to eat good rice with this rice cooker !!!

Bought this rice cooker for our new house and it works amazing! Very stylish, compact, and easy to use. It is light weight with a carry handle for portability. Sometimes I use it for pot lucks and my friends like it too! I love the multi function options that it provides for different types of rice as I use them all. Toshiba has always been extremely reliable and works forever! Everyone needs a rice cooker and this is THE one. Highly recommended!!!

I got this product under promotion and I think it was the best deal I ever had. I love that the rice cooker has multiple options to cook different type of rice and also oatmeal and porridge. The rice was cooked to perfect, fluffy and soft. I also tried making Japanese cotton cheesecake which was obviously not perfect, I cooked for 70 mins using the mixed rice program. I will try to make the cake again using a different function with longer cook time. In general I’m satisfied with my purchase.

 Order my rice cooker Thursday night, receive it in Saturday and try it out. OMG!! It is absolutely amazing, my rice came out just right. I am a island girl so when it comes I don’t play!! I highly recommend this product because it is better than all the other ones that I have used.

I cook meals everyday and rice at least 4 times a week. This rice cooker is so easy to use and I'm so excited for this purchase... my rice usually comes out mushy and sticky but with this rice cooker it came out perfect every time. I cant wait to use it again. !!!!!

I really enjoy having this rice cooker. I received it at a discounted price for submitting my honest review. After using it several times to make both brown and basmati rice, I can report that it cleans up easily, is simple to use, and makes beautiful, tender rice. The only problem I found was that it doesn’t ship in a box meant for shipping, and upon arrival the box and the cooker were damaged. Since it is only cosmetic, I won’t worry about exchanging it, but I would suggest that it gets shipped in a sturdy box.

I only used once so far and although my rice was a bit mushy, I think that was on me adding a bit more water than instructions said. Easy to use. Multi-function is a plus! White rice, brown rice, and a number of other items can be cooked in this Rice Cooker. Nice product

This is my second rice cooker (first was a different brand) and I must say, as someone who loves kitchen gadgets, this is probably my new fav! After just one use, I know I'm never preparing rice any other way again. The cooker has programming for different types of rice/veggies and a timer, I will make perfect rice every time! It also comes with some handy utensils and is very easy to clean. I like that it is not too large so storing it when not in use isn't a problem. Definitely a great addition to any kitchen. I'm sorry I didn't have it sooner.

So I've used it twice. Both times on the same setting (quick rice). When the timer got down to 8 minutes, it kicked off/stayed at 8 minutes for about ten minutes. So the first time my food came out a little dry/overcooked. I watched for it the second time and set a different timer for the remaining eight min and food came out perfect.

This is the rice cooker you want!!! It was easy to use. Easy to clean. I'm going to use this regularly to add rice to my dogs meals. The rice came out perfect. Not mushy at all. I'm also loving the handle which makes it convenient to move from counter to shelf. I will update my review as I try it on other things.

Took awhile to arrive but worth the wait! Really like the ease of cooking rice and oatmeal in this and that it has a preset so it can be ready on my time. Large enough for our family of 4 and easy to clean since we have little time since we have so many kids lol. Large buttons and clearly outlined instructions. Love that it came with utensils and measuring bowl

I had been looking all over the internet for different recipes I could do in my rice cooker beside just making ‘perfect’ rice and found lots on Pinterest. My rice cooker is sleek and easy to use. I’ve steamed vegetables and baked cakes and they all have come out lovely. I was not disappointed at all with this purchase. It was well worth the money.

The box was slightly damaged I’m assuming from it not being cover during shipping, however once i opened the box everything g was in tact and packages well. There are no scratches or dings and it’s pretty nice quality and It has a sleek design. It comes with a measuring cup, and 2 utensils-that’s a plus.

I don't know what took me so long to purchase! This rice cooker is one of the absolute best. I am definitely not one to consider domestic so anything that helps me out is great! I was able to put on my dinner this morning before church and come back to a nice, fluffy, just right, pot of white rice to add to my pot roast! The package came with measuring cups and spoons which was a added bonus and the instructions are the easiest! I love it!

Near perfect basmati rice. I’m sure there is some user error in the rice/water ratio but this is so much better than I’ve cooked it before without this rice cooker. Comes with everything you need, including a measuring cup and spoons.

The instruction manual is really good, giving recommendations for each type of rice. I thought 50 mins for white rice would be too long but my the time I set it, then did the prepping and cooking of the meat and veggies for my Indian-style dinner, it was ready.

Definitely will be using this at least weekly.

Great rice cooker cooks rice to prefection nice and fluffy but I also use the steam strainer that comes with it to steam vegetables I let them steam for about 30mins and they are good to go restaurant style veggies so it can be used for more than rice!

Whenever I left my rice on warm for more than 5h,my old rice maker made my rice super dry turned into pebbles, but this one even after 15h still keeping the rice as good as it's just cooked.
