Hamilton Beach Waffle Maker Review + Demo
4 years ago

this video I review and demonstrate my Hamilton Beach waffle maker, model: 26009. It has 650 watts and makes 2 square, Belgian~style waffles at a time. The finished waffles are approximately 3/4" thick. They come out nice and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. It's a small unit that's perfect for small kitchens, small families, singles or college dorms. It's also great for waffling other foods like grilled cheese, cinnamon rolls, etc... I've included my own homemade waffle recipe here which I used in the video: Homemade Buttermilk Waffles 1 c. All Purpose Flour 1/4 c. Cornstarch 2 t. Baking Powder 1 t. Baking Soda 1/2 t. salt 2 T. Sugar 1/2 c. Melted Coconut Oil ~or~ Melted Butter 1 c. Buttermilk 1 Egg Preheat your waffle maker. Preheat your oven to 200F. In a medium mixing bowl whisk together all of the dry ingredients, make a well in the center and set aside. In a small bowl mix together the buttermilk and oil. Add the egg to the milk mixture and whisk to incorporate. Pour the milk mixture into the well of the dry ingredients and whisk just until all dry ingredients are moistened. A few lumps are ok. Do not overmix the batter. When waffle iron is up to temperature, lightly oil the top and bottom grates, then add batter. (The Hamilton Beach model takes slightly less than 1/2 cup per side of the waffle grates.) Bake until golden, about 3-4 minutes. When finished, transfer waffles to warm oven and lay them directly on the oven rack. (If waffles are placed on a plate or pan, the bottoms will become soggy.) ENJOY! My channel contains video reviews of products I own & have purchased with my own money. I am not in any way affiliated with any company that manufactures, sells or represents these products. My intent is to be helpful in sharing my own experience with these products. I initially bought a single Nostaligia maker and it took 6 minutes per Chaffle. This cuts the cook time down to 2.5 minutes per 2 chaffles! Very happy. I have mine set to half temp. I'd buy again and recommend.

Perfect for me, I'm live alone. Only 1 to cook for. Larger irons make way too many waffles to eat at one sitting. And they don't taste the same microwave reheated. Easy release of cooked waffle; easy cleanup.

I've never owned a waffle maker or waffle iron.

I've had this just a few days and all ready have used it three times.

I've made traditional waffles (mix, have the heat just slightly right to center, takes 6 minutes) and I've made hashbrowns on them (7min, med-high heat).

It does have a three prong plug-in, that maybe a challenge for some, but otherwise a pretty slender machine that wipes clean. I'm very happy.

As in any appliance...practice makes perfect.

The waffles were delish!

Love the Belgium grates and the storage compactness.

I've been making homemade waffles for over 20 years. I needed a new one. This one heats up in about 4 minutes initially and cooks waffles in about 2 minutes and one batch after another. I can set my timer for 2 minutes each batch (1/2 cup batter per square) and they are done right each time. No need to spray or put any shortening already non-stick. I have used for several months. No issues with sticking and easy damp cloth cleanup. Not super deep Belgian waffles, but somewhere in between which I like. Very nice waffle maker and reliable so far.

This is a great bargain waffle maker. For the price it has a lot of great features and is a great price.

The build quality is quite nice. I use it almost every weekend and am going on 2 years of usage without having any issues. The temperature/browning control works very well especially since I like my waffles a little bit crispy.

I do wish there was not as much plastic on this device, but for the price I guess I can't complain too much. If this one ever fails I will hopefully buy another Hamilton Beach that has a bit less plastic.

It serves its purpose but I kind of wish there was maybe a timer or some way to know that it’s done instead of opening it and possibly ruining the waffle. But overall nice and big and looks good in my kitchen.

Honestly I've always wanted a waffle maker but couldn't see spending a lot of money on a waffle maker just to make waffles. I love this waffle maker. I love the way the waffles come out It's always perfect. Only thing I do not like is that the plates are not removable. It's not really hard for me to clean because I have a spray nozzle but I think if you didn't have a spray nozzle it would be extremely hard to clean. It would be worrisome if you would get water in it and ruin it.

Update: I still love it and think that it cooks perfect. Although is a little difficult to clean. For the price it is definitely worth the buy but next time I'm probably going to go in and get removable plates on a waffle maker.

After getting one of these for myself, it was SO easy to use and clean that I got one for my sweet Mom who was rather tiring of the pancakes charade. She absolutely LOVES it! It is lightweight and easy to store and even easier to use with very little clean up. Great product and cooks waffles perfectly even with things like blueberries or strawberries added in:) Great price too!

For all the Dads/Moms looking for a waffle maker because you wanna create memories for your child, this one fits the bill. Not only is it cheap, the waffles come out easily and tastes pretty good. I make sure to wake up extra early to make a waffle and eggs/grits for my boys a couple times a week so hopefully they can remember fond memories of “hanging out with dad during breakfast.” One tip, always spray upper and lower grills with a shot of Pam.

It works great but the outside casing gets hot enough to burn you. You need to use a hot pad to touch the hot waffle maker or else make sure you only touch the plastic parts.

I've used this about 5x so far. It cooks well and evenly from what I've experienced. The only thing I don't care for is the cleaning but I knew the plates were not removable before I bought it. Just take a few min and wipe down each plate. Not bad for the price.

I love the feature that it stands up on its side... takes up less space. BUT, when you're cooking and need to open it to take out the finished waffles, the handle is SO hot!! It builds up steam there and I slightly burn myself every time I open it. I probably wouldn't have bought this if I would have known, but I guess I'm just going to keep it.

This was my second waffle iron of this type. I liked it so much I ordered same one again when the original one got too old. The waffle iron is simple and inexpensive and works fine. However this time the black plastic piece in the front of the waffle iron broke off when I first used it. I could still operate the waffle iron. I returned the waffle iron and Amazon promptly replaced it. All else worked as planned.

The only downside being that there is no light indicating when the waffle is done as my old waffle maker had. If you pay attention and time it right, it's not a huge issue.

I was somewhat disappointed in this as I had been waiting to get a new waffle iron that was big enough to make waffles for more than one person at a time. It cooks unevenly and sometimes the waffles are not quite done around the edges.

It also has no other selection other than ON.....I prefer my cheaper and very old round waffle maker that I can preset the temp and know they come out done and perfect every time. Back to the drawing board

Love this product!! Easy to use and makes great waffles. This product unlike many of the others on the market makes two smaller waffles so you do not need to make the huge Belgian waffles like in hotels and restaurants, 2 of these is perfect for breakfast. But also quick so if you have a bigger appetite you can quickly make another batch. Irons are non stick so cleaning is very easy and no issues with changing batters between batches because you don’t really need to clean any residue off.

I love this little waffle maker. It’s a great size, cooks waffles well, and is very simple to use. I’ve taken to making bowls of batter to keep in the fridge, and just plugging it in each morning, making a few waffles, and putting it away.

A few criticisms: the locking mechanism is pointless. It’s meant to keep the waffle maker closed, but gravity does that fine, and it just means the lock pops up alarmingly when the batter expands too much. While it hasn’t been too hot to handle, it’s still a delicate business unlocking and lifting the lid to check the waffles.

Secondly, it’s a bit touch and go with this waffle maker. You pretty much just have to check the waffles often until they look good, because the little heat level bar doesn’t do much and the waffle maker cooks differently the longer you have it on. I’ve never had anything burn, but you definitely can’t sit back and let it toast your waffles to the desires crispness — you really have to check and make sure.

Still though, it works well for the cost and is easy to use. We’ve had it for a month and have cooked waffles, banana bread, bacon, and pizza dough. It’s not too much of a pain to clean and it makes great sized waffles.

The waffle iron is a waffle iron, strictly speaking it irons waffles. Fact of the matter is it does it's job and does it well. At that point it depends on the chef.

Only skepticism is the cord is a mite short. It has a clip like lock when you close it but I suspect that's more useful to hold it together while storing and relocating, not so much while cooking; the waffle takes the clip in fight, pops up. Its more amusing than anything honestly, no harm done, no trouble or struggle. I'm happy.

(For the Engineers: the waffles are not perfectly square, they are 4x5 sad to say)

Definitely a good product for the price. The waffles come out great and it's easy to use. The only down side is I've burned myself a few times. The metal of course gets extremely hot, as expected. The problem is the plastic parts that you actually should touch instead are a bit small (I do have fairly large hands to be fair) causing me to accidentally touch the metal at times. The plastic actually gets hotter than you'd expect too, but won't burn you immediately. If you use pot holders or something, this is a great product.

I absolutely love this waffle maker! I bought it so that I can host a waffle bar for Thanksgiving with my parents, two brothers and their families. Everyone loved it! You have to be careful to not put a lot of mix because it does rise but other than that, it worked great and fast! It has a green light that turns on when the waffle is ready so it is easy to use and hard to burn the waffle. They loved it so much that I bought each their own waffle maker for Christmas!

It makes good Belgian waffles but don't overfill it. There's no overflow channel or drip tray so expanding excess batter will ooze out of the edges, down the side of the machine and onto your countertop. Be ready with a rag to catch any before it drips into the temperature control slider opening. The rest will bake dry on the hot exterior surface and you can scrape if off later when it cools. The number of ridges and angles on the exterior of the machine make it a bit of a hassle to clean, that's all.

Baking can be a little uneven but acceptable, especially at this price. Once you get the time and temperature dialed in for your favorite recipes you'll probably be very happy with the results. It just takes some trial and error at first. Overall it's a great bang for the buck.

I already had one of those multi-option griddles but the waffles never came out right. This one on the other hand produces fantastic waffles, the color and texture are just what you'd expect. Since I already had something similar, I didn't want to pay a ton of money; because of that it is a little smaller than I would've liked, which is something I didn't take into account when I selected it.

As far as rating durability, it is still very new so I can't say one way or the other.

I was a bit spoiled by my previous griddle/waffle maker since that one did have removable plates and this one doesn't which makes cleaning a bit harder but the maker itself is sealed very well along the edges just incase batter overflows.

It is really easy to use.

I am very happy with my waffle maker. I'd definitely recommend.

So, the wife wanted waffles...home made waffles, so thank you amazon and seller for making this so easy for me to purchase and ship. It was at my door in two days and I have to say, plug and play. I have to say I am a tech nerd so I was confident to make my waffles with out reading the directions. First batch was a failure, however after reading I realized that there is a specific way to preheat and coat the grill prior to use. Following batches came out perfect. It will take a few times to get the batter just right and get the right amount poured in, but I have to say the hardest part of using this product is making the batter. Now, one only complaint would be to add a warning sticker on the top of the grill as the aluminum case gets extremely hot, I tested it by splashing it with water (I’m not a complete idiot), because I just had a feeling. Also an on and off button, this product stays on as long as it’s plugged in. So be careful.

I first encountered this waffle maker at my sister's house during a visit, and decided that at the cost it was a perfect replacement for my big old square appliance. There are only 2 of us now, and I don't need to make giant waffles. This one makes 2 squares at a time, using 1/2 c batter each--my recipe yields 4, so I have 2 to serve DH and 2 to stick in the freezer (I don't eat sweets in the am). The plates are non-stick, but I spray with cooking spray before pouring in the first waffles, and when the device has cooled, wipe down with paper towels. Even cooking, fairly fast, and perfect waffles every time. This is not a particularly versatile appliance--it only does 1 thing, but does that perfectly, takes up little space, and has DH eating a lot more waffles than we did in the decade before I bought it. Having a few waffles in the freezer is also helpful when we sometimes have a grandchild sleeping over, or want a quick supper waffle topped with any of a number of surprising combos.

We love this little waffle maker! We had the larger, round, rotating waffle maker but the stand for it broke so I tentatively ordered this one. I am SO glad I did! The waffle maker is compact so it doesn’t take up very much room in our pantry or on the counter. Despite appearing small, however, the waffle size is perfect and the waffles do not feel small when eating them. It’s super easy to use and the heat setting slider is really accurate (with some waffle makers it’s difficult to find the right point between too light or too dark but not with this one). It’s easy to make waffles for one person or for a group. We use ours weekly if not more often and are so happy with it.

Now that I've had this iron for 2 YEARS, thought I'd add my review.

Overall, for the price, it's a great iron. It's stood the test of time and still cranks out beautiful waffles just like the first day we ever used it.

Pros: durable and reliable, easy to store, fast (takes about 5 minutes to cook batter), makes great waffles with deep squares for butter and syrup, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Excellent non-stick coating. I occasionally spray it lightly with pam (perhaps every 20 uses or so) but I've never had a waffle get stuck hard enough to tear. Heats up quickly (about 5 minutes from cold, and about 1-2 minutes to reheat between waffles).

Cons: cleaning is so difficult. I usually wrap an extra-large popsicle stick in a damp paper towel to get between the groves. Also, if you over-fill it (which is VERY easy to do), it spits batter at you, on the counter, and down the sides of the iron where it becomes horribly stuck. Lastly, the tops cook way slower than the bottoms, but that's easy to get around with the right method: about 3 minutes into cooking, open the iron and use a fork / tongs/ toothpick to flip the waffles. Lower the lid back down and finish cooking for about 2 minutes longer.

This is a good little iron for the average couple on a budget, just be prepared to spend as much (if not more) time cleaning the iron (and its surroundings) as you do cooking the waffles.

For only $19.80, this would make a great gift for a single person. Also great as a Christmas stocking stuffer. It's well made and doesn't look or feel flimsy. However, it gets very hot and has to be handled carefully. There are lots of Belgian waffle recipes online, so it will be fun to use.

WOW! I am so impressed with this little machine. Alittle wiped down with oil before heated and my waffles came out perfect from the very first one to the last!!! I used Krusteaz Belgian Waffle mix, 1/3 cup each side. We travel a lot in the RV so I made my decision on its size. It is big enough to feed the 3 of us but small enough to not use up much space. BIG bang for your buck!!

Bought this as a Christmas gift for my sister and her family of four to replace her dual, rotating round waffle iron. She loves it better than the other style as it doesn't require you to babysit the iron and she can make four waffles at once. Her new thing is to pop in diced hash browns and crack an egg over them and close it up. Comes out cooked thoroughly and crispy hash browns so its got more uses than just the waffle

This waffle iron is great! It is compact, easy to store and easy to clean. The waffles have deep holes for maximum crispy surface area, while the inside of the waffle stays soft and moist.

As compared to my previous waffle iron, this one cooks faster and the temperature control dial offers more flexibility.

My only complaint is that while in use, the metallic part of the waffle iron gets very hot and the black plastic base gets pretty hot.

Being single, this is the perfect size waffle iron for me. Had a much larger iron when I was raising children. I like that it has Stainless Steel nonstick grids and preheat and on Lights. And you can choose what shade and crispy level you would like. And it is easy to store. I will definitely buy from this seller again.

Unfortunately I opened this just in time to make my mother's birthday brunch to find the base was broken. If I didn't need it that day I would have exchanged it. It works, it is just wobbly. For the negatives: the opening lever is hot to the touch and there is no noise to signal that the waffle is cooked. My fault, I should have read more carefully. On the positive side: it makes a terrific waffle, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. I also love the small size of the waffle. If they redesign so that the opening lever isn't hot to touch I would recommend this product, otherwise no.

I am very happy with this waffle maker! Being able to make 4 waffles at a time to feed my hungry family Saturday mornings is a huge time saver for me. I make my own waffle batter and it comes out perfectly golden, crisp and delicious! This is my second time buying this exact model because we used the other one so much it died. Thank God for Amazon because I couldn't find a store carrying this one again. We were without Waffles for about 2 months. So glad I was able to fine this on Amazon. Excellent buy!! I bought the El Cheapo model as a test, to see whether I really wanted Belgian waffles, thinking I'd replace it later with something more substantial.

There are several complaints about this waffle iron: the housing gets really hot, there is no on-off switch, the plastic lift bar is a little tricky, waffles don't brown properly.

Right there on the housing, where you can't miss it, is a warning that says it will become very hot. We all know that means, Be Careful.

Before pulling the plug to turn the iron off when you're done, remember to move the heat regulator from Maximum to Minimum (right to left).

The plastic lift bar is a little tricky. What do you expect for under $20?

My recommendations:

Give the irons a quick spray of vegetable oil before plugging the appliance in,

Set the heat regulator to Maximum (left to right),

Add a moderate amount of batter and smooth it lightly.

Close lid, wait about three minutes, until the green light is visible.

If there is still steam rising from the waffle iron, heat the syrup and soften the butter.

When there is no more steam, open the iron and remove your great waffles.

Replace the heat regulator to minimum and unplug the device.

If you were careful with the batter there won't be any cleanup. Even if there were spills, cleanup is very easy once the appliance has cooled..

I've no plans to replace this waffle iron.

A perfectly adequate waffle maker if you don't see the necessity of paying big bucks for an appliance. Excellent value. Gets good and hot if you like your waffles fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Seems to cook evenly. Not much to review about it, as it's quite basic. I like to make a big batch and freeze them up for toaster waffles. Perfect for this.

I think this thing is good.. Can't be certain though because it never gets used. My wife insisted on having one but we all know what happens with machines like this. Do you really need this? Really? If so,then it made perfectly golden brown and crunchy waffles the 2 times we've used it!

This is a very basic waffle maker, which is what I wanted. It was a bit smaller than I thought which, once again, was just right. I washed it thoroughly like it said and then cycled it once. It gave off some nasty fumes for a few minutes. That might have been soap residue or some factory coating, I don't know. Later I made a waffle in it and it performed just as it should. It might be just a bit on the cool side but still cooked through. For the record a waffle cooker should be between 400f and 430f to cook properly. All in all it did a great job, just the right size for a single old man. Lucky my two cats don't like waffles or this maker would not be large enough.

This was the best $20 I've spent. Next to my Keurig, this is the 2nd most used appliance in my kitchen. In fact, since I've bought it, I used it about 12 out of the 14 days that I had it. Including the preparation time, I now can make delicious waffles under 10 minutes. I highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a waffle maker!

The Hamilton Beach Belgian Waffle Maker is great for a small apartment owner such as myself. Takes up little room, it is easy to pack up, and only makes 2 waffles at a time which is all I need! Now to address some of the good and bad about this little guy.

The waffle maker uses a light indicator for when it has reached the desired temperature you have set it at. There is no off and on switch. It is a plug in and get hot type of method. This can be a good or a bad thing for certain people. I am indifferent to this and merely wait until the light switches to READY before I pour my mix in. It can take a good solid 5+ minutes to reach the READY light if you are looking for the hottest and brownest settings, which is not required to get perfect waffles. I set it on medium and toast my waffles for a good 3+ minutes.

The waffle maker is non-stick. I still use a spray to help as recommended and I think it is needed. You'll have more of a mess if you do not use a non-stick spray. It makes clean up so much easier.

I use this with Bisquick waffle mix with no problem! No trial and error needed too. It was that easy. The waffles come close to about 1'in in thickness and feel fluffy.

Now for more of the bad. The only reason I took a star off would be because the plates cannot be removed, thus making clean up slower and this is not mess-free. Slight spill over is going to happen on occasion, be ready!

I've enjoyed my little waffle maker and recommend it to others.

For any waffle lover, this is the waffle maker for you and won’t break the bank! The Hamilton Beach Belgian Waffle Maker makes two four inch waffles in just minutes. The heating time of this waffle maker is less than three minutes, which will be plenty of time for you to get the batter ready. The waffle maker has a slick brushed stainless steel look to it with a sliding adjustable temperature lever. The adjustable temperature control can be a little tricky at first to find the sweet spot for the perfect waffle since there is a lot of play in the control. It would be much easier if there was a preset temperature selector on the waffle maker. The Hamilton Beach Belgian Waffle Maker is easy to use; However, it would be a good idea to keep younger family members away from the waffle maker during operation, since all the surfaces get very hot when the waffle maker is in use.

The anti-stick surface that is built into the waffle maker exceeds all expectations. You will not need to waste a whole can on PAM ever with this waffle maker! Cleaning is a quick and simple task anything on the waffle iron itself comes right off. Any spilled batter that gets onto the stainless-steel exterior will wipe clean with a wet rag. Over all The Hamilton Beach Belgian Waffle Maker is a very durable waffle maker since there are not a lot of moving parts that could break easily. The waffle maker is relatively small so that storage won’t be an issue even for the smallest of living spaces. For the low price of $19.28 you will find The Hamilton Beach Belgian Waffle Maker to be a great value all around.

Love the ease of use, simplicity of temperature control. We like our waffles crunchy, even with whole grain batters, it does a great job. I have managed to burn myself a couple of times through my own inattention. Plenty of product warnings concerning it, so I was adequately warned. That said, my husband has made several batches of waffles without any mishaps. He loves it too.

We've been using it to make gluten free waffles and boy does this thing work well. It's always a fine balance between getting gluten free mixes nice and crispy on the outside while still getting the inside fully cooked. After a few test waffles we found that just a hair back from the highest setting produces the best results. The waffles come out light, fluffy and goldenly delicious.

I got the Hamilton Beach Belgium Waffle Maker for Christmas. I was surprised at how small and compact it is, but in a good way. I have already used it and found a great recipe that made exactly 8 huge waffles. Which is perfect for my family of 4. It is super easy to use and clean. I cannot wait to use it again.

I was skeptical to order a Hamilton Beach product but I wanted a Belgian waffle iron that didn't cost two arms and a leg. The product was received package well. I wash the plates and made my batter (I use pioneer baking mix). I did not spray the iron but I was debating about it. After putting the I guess light/dark range in the middle, I poured the batter in. After about 5 mins, the waffles was cook but burnt. So I tried again and lower the settings. It came perfect. The waffles are not flat. They're crispy. True Belgian waffles!!!! The waffles did not stick and it's easy to clean.

The only con I have with this product is that the the whole iron is HOT! If you touch it you might get burned type of hot. Aloe vera on hand type of hot. Also, I struggle with the black handle a little bit. after accidentally touching the silver part, maybe my over paranoid self focuses on not burning myself instead of opening the thing correctly.

This waffle maker is AMAZING. I bought it to make KETO waffles (high fat, low carb) and they come out beautifully everything plus taste amazing! I love that the waffle maker cooks the waffle golden brown and the middle and soft just like a waffle you would get at Waffle House but better:)

My KETO waffle recipe:
2 eggs
2 oz cream cheese (no it doesn't make them taste like cheese)
2 oz of almond powder or meal(meal is cheaper and tastes the same)
*if you want some more KETO recipes, you can follow my recipe IG @highfatkitchen

What I also love about it is you can pour the mixture onto the griddle, put a slice of cheese or salami or bacon, pour more mixture on top and you've got a delicious grilled cheese waffle:)

:D amazing!! Don't skip on this product!!

Gets SUPER hot. Able to make a big batch in a small amount of time despite only having 2 plates. Plates are not removable so kind of a pain to clean, but don't use often enough to justify a more expensive version.

This waffle maker is simple, but importantly, it lets you know when the temperature is reached. Simply pour in the batter and perfect waffles are made. The maker is light weight which can cause it to slide when opening the lid, and the surrounding surfaces are hot, so a little deft is important when opening a closing the maker.

The 5 stars are for the very reasonable price and the great results.

This is a good and simple waffle maker. I am still experimenting to make really good waffles that are fully golden. I tried using the allrecipe directions with just a little less than 1/2 cup, however the waffles were not as crisp or golden as I had wanted them. I will try Bisquick next.

The unit says 4-6 minutes, however I found that I needed to cook on high for 7 minutes, and instead of 1/3 a cup I had to use just a little less than 1/2 a cup - any more and you'll cause a blow-out, any less and the waffle won't look so great when it comes out.

I found that maximum setting worked the best for trying to make the waffles a golden color, originally I started with medium heat but that only gave me pancake-consistency results. Finally brought it up to maximum and the waffles started turning out better.

Durability of this seems decent. There's a lot of run-off with the non-stick spray from the top parts of the press, so be sure to place the unit over a paper-towel before you start cooking, this will reduce your clean-up time. All surfaces are hot, and the steam comes out straight onto the handle so you need to be careful. I use a toothpick to remove the waffles, as any metal is bad news for the nonstick coating

Perfect waffles! Crispy on the outside, soft and slightly chewy in the middle. Beautiful browning, except on the very edge. Very simple and easy to use.

The only drawback is that cleaning is a bit of a pain, but I expect that comes with the territory.

The included instructions are spot on. A bit of nonstick spray, ~1/3c of batter, ~4-5m until it stops steaming, and out comes a beautiful square of goodness.

All in all, especially given the inexpensive price, this is a fantastic value. Very highly recommended.

It works great, not taking too long to heat up and mak s the waffles fast. And being able to make a whole batch at once saves so much time. Feels well put together, but there's two problems. The trays don't come off so you have to wash the whole unit, which with the rivets can be a pain. And there's no power switch, so you have to plug it in and unplug it whenever you're using it. Not a terrible problem, just needed to be stated I think.

These are great waffle makers! This is my 2nd one in 15 years! My first one had gotten to where it wasn't heating on the bottom plate properly after 14 years of almost constant use! The great thing about these waffle makers is you can make any type of waffle plus so much more! Breakfast type, egg/bread based recipes work well as do individual crispy outside, soft inside stuffing/dressing recipes (or even the boxed ones you just add water to)! Makes a great wedding, birthday, Christmas gift and also a great idea for dorm rooms! There are many recipes on the web for more things to make with this that can be printed out and added in with the gift as well! I love mine! Fast shipping was a plus too!

So far we've only used it once and I liked it quite a lot. You DO have to watch how much batter you use. I knew at some point I'd overfill, so I put a cookie-sheet underneath to help any seepage and that helped. If you think you don't have enough in there, you probably have just enough. It did take about 5 minutes per set of waffles to get a good crispy waffle going, but I also used a great pancake batter recipe that probably wasn't *quite* right for the job (a little too thin - if you're interested, tho, it's a stellar one - just let me know in comments). I found an actual waffle recipe online - one that's simple, so we'll be trying that again this week. And possibly making them fun colors. ;)

It works... but not so well...

I bought rhis because it was cheap, but now I regret getting this. I wasn't expecting the best but it still gave me hard time getting the waffle right. The indicator light wasn't working well, and it just did not work one time...

Not sure what the reason was, but when I tried later it started working again.

The whole machine gets super hot, so you should be extra careful.

You get what you paid for.

I thought I would have to make at least a batch or two to get edible waffles, but the first pair came out great!! Much better than making pancakes all the time. The quality of the no-stick surface looks excellent. I expect this to last a long, long time. As I looked around my kitchen, I noticed all my small appliances happen to be Hamilton Beach. I didn't notice this before. Maybe in the future, I'll make my first choices for appliances Hamilton Beach.

Pros:

-Capable of reaching higher temperatures and maintaining heat. I bought this for Liege waffles, and this machine was able to caramelize the pearl sugar even on the lowest temperature setting.

-Heats evenly across the surface - no major hot spots.

-Space efficient (could be a downside if you have a larger family, in which case definitely opt for a larger model)

-affordable, no frills. It does what it should and nothing more.

Cons:

-Flimsy plastic latch is hard to get a grip on, and that has questionable durability for long-term usage. The temperature dial is also plastic and flimsy feeling.

-Plates are not removable for cleaning

-Does not have an ON/OFF switch. Once it's plugged in, it's on.

-Top plate gets a little hotter than the bottom plate, so the top surface of the waffle will brown sooner and more deeply. To get around this, I put on oven mitts and flip the entire machine over halfway through cooking.

-Has no drip reservoir, so it can make a mess if you pour too much batter. Always use this on top of a tray to catch drippings.

I bought this because my wife likes pancakes but I don't. I like the crispiness of waffles. I'm new to Belgian waffles. So take that for what it's worth. I've tried several recipes, and the waffles turn out tough. They are actually better if frozen and then toasted in the toaster. I'm not sure if it's this machine, or if I just need a good, old fashioned waffle maker. The final vote is not yet in.

If you are looking for an inexpensive,no-frills, does-the-job waffle maker, then this is it ! There are just 2 lights-one for power on and a green light when the waffle iron gets to the right temperature to start cooking. There is also a lever to adjust the level of browning. There is no indicator or beep to tell you when the waffles are ready. This is a good thing because you can tailor it to your own preference and it takes a couple of trials to decide the ideal time.

The machine makes 2 waffles at a time and one of its attributes is that it is very compact and does not occupy too much space on the counter top or to store away.

Dear waffles, I love you.

I am obsessed with waffles. I'm also 7 months pregnant.

I've been existing on freezer waffles, which I thought were yummy -- and then I bought this. Oh. My. Gosh.

Let me just say -- I read a LOT of reviews for waffle irons before buying this one. And some reviews for this iron say that it's impossible to get a perfect waffle the first time. WRONG. Simply follow the directions -- wipe down the plates with oil after cleaning for the first time (before using, mind you), and use a good recipe (I used one from all recipes.com that had coconut oil instead of veggie oil) and my waffle was Ab-So-lutely perfect the first go round.

I haven't stopped using this since. We have had waffles every day, and I don't anticipate that stopping.

I love that it has such a small footprint, too -- but I don't think I'll ever even put it away because I love it so much.

My seven year old niece's passion for waffles started before kindergarten. She would eat waffles for every meal if allowed. A graduate now of second grade, she's spending the first month of summer vacation with us.

It was with her in mind that I broke out the old waffle iron, to show her "real" waffles don't come from the freezer and they aren't cooked in a toaster. They come from homemade batter. Fresh off of the iron, they're hot enough to melt cold pats of butter. They don't need to swim in that "gee I wish I was maple" syrup; only a drizzle of the real deal makes them heaven. To say that her first homemade waffles were a hit would be a major misunderstatement. I slid the plate in front of her and she dove in; about two bites in, she stopped chewing. For a couple of seconds she sat with her mouth open and her eyes glazed; then, she smacked her lips and chewed through both waffles like a chainsaw through kindling.

I had created a monster. The old waffle iron made one little round waffle at a time, way too cumbersome, plus it's one of those you have to turn over halfway through to cook both sides (I said it was old). It required a lot more attention than I'm capable of before a few cups of coffee and I couldn't see using it every morning for the next month.

Online at Amazon.com, I found this Hamilton Beach 26020 Belgian Style Waffle Baker. Anticipating washing it first, I was disappointed to realize that the plates don't come out. I went over them with a dishcloth, moist with hot, soapy water and then a second wet cloth, a couple of times, to rinse. Any disappointment vanished the next morning. So simple! It heated up while I stirred oil and egg into my batter mix.

The first waffle was a mess; totally my fault. The second time around, after cleaning it out, I followed directions. After spraying it evenly with Pam, top and bottom, I poured the batter into the middle of each waffle square and pulled down the top. The timer hadn't gone off when the smell led me to believe the waffle was done; when I went to slowly lift the lid, it resisted a little, so I let it go the full time before trying again. The iron opened and the waffle would have slid right out except one corner stuck until I pushed from the side with a spatula.

It came out as one large waffle, undamaged, looking golden brown. I divided it into four and confirmed it was fully cooked. Placing two to a plate, I joined my niece at the table. After an almost ceremonial application of butter and syrup to every square, she bit in and declared them "even better" than what I'd cooked on the old iron (although I think that had more to do with getting two at once). I too enjoyed eating mine while I told her of a magical dinner that combines fried chicken and waffles and watched her eyes glaze over again.

If I had a chance to recommend changes, I'd ask that the iron be made with removeable plates; other than that, for the price, I have no complaints and would buy this again for myself or as a gift.

For the price this waffle maker is great. I appreciate the setting that allows you to select the darkness of the waffle. I recommend reading the instructions and following them (e.g. watch for the light to turn on and off between waffles) and to really coat the waffle maker with cooking spray to avoid sticking. I put an old towel under mine to keep the counter cleaner.

I also like that it stands on its side for storage. It allowed me to squeeze this between my mixer and food processor with ease!

I have six kids. Who all love having waffles for dinner. Well, making them was an impossible task unless I wanted to be in the kitchen for hours. This product, however, solved all that. I can make enough fast enough to feed all 9 of us (me, hubby, six kids and the nanny) and even have some left over to heat up for snacks the next day. I've been through about 5 different waffle makers. This is the only one that made the cut.

Not a bad waffle maker. I wanted one that made 4 BIG waffles at a time, and this one does just that. And for under $30, too! It heats up very quickly, and has a great non-stick coating. I forgot to use cooking spray once or twice, but never had waffles stick.

Unfortunately, this waffle maker doesn't seem to heat or cook evenly. I don't know if mine was damaged or if it was the batter I used, but things didn't go that well. When I make waffles, I don't open a waffle maker until the steam lessens or stops during cooking. The instructions that came with this one said to do the same thing, so I did. I ended up with a ring of scorched waffle in the center, with the rest of it being slightly under-cooked. After my first two sets of waffles came out like that, I ended up checking the rest after a minute or two. Even when they were still steaming quite a bit, some of the waffles were starting to get overcooked in the center, so I had to pull them out.

I guess the heating elements are ring-shaped, which seems kind of weird for a large square waffle maker. The ones I've used in the past have had W-shaped heating elements, and they always cooked waffles evenly. They also had adjustable heat settings, something this one lacks.

Not a bad waffle maker for the price, but it could be better.

This is working out great and churning out some delicious waffles! The children like that it has a little green light that shows you when the waffle is done. I like that I can pour running water over the top of it (when it is UNPLUGGED - of course), and it cleans off very well. I noticed that the directions specify that you do not need to spray it with non-stick spray unless you are using a lot of sugar in your waffle recipe. It is nice not to have to use the extra spray and have that weird spray coating that comes with it.

This thing is awesome. It makes perfect waffles in 5 minutes. It makes two waffles about the size of the frozen toaster waffles you can buy in a package, but a bit fatter, which is just right for one each for me and my daughter. It's super easy to use, and it's coated with teflon so it doesn't require oiling. The waffles never stick or burn and it doesn't even really need cleaning. I just wipe it out and put it away after it's cooled. The only thing not great is the latch. Part of it fell of the second time I used it. So if I put too much batter in, it pops open a bit. However, this is not really a big deal as it still makes great waffles. Just be careful not to over-fill it.

Ok, fine, I have only had this for one week, so cannot attest to the long term quality. But I have used this waffle maker every day so far and my family loves it. Even baking (not sure why other comments said otherwise). I did regular waffles, chocolate chip waffles, cranberry waffles, banana waffles and even the waffles when you put nutella between two sheets of puff pastry dough, cut into four squares and cook them in the waffle maker. No problems. And cleanup is a breeze. My last waffle maker cost three times the amount of this one and I cannot tell the difference in quality of cooking great waffles.

Love this waffle maker! I have never used one prior to this purchase, so was a little nervous on how they would turn out... needlessly! As these came out just perfectly cooked. Light and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. Here is how I make them:

I use the waffle recipe on the Bisquik box. Follow the directions. Add two teaspoons of sugar and a teaspoon of vanilla. Cook them for 3 to 4 minutes and pop them out. Perfect, fluffy waffles every single time! I serve with melted butter and syrup. The vanilla and sugar take away the processed Bisquik "flat" taste that the mix usually has. I have wanted to try a scratch recipe but my family has been starving for breakfast all three times, thus I have been tweaking the quickie mix recipe. I hope this helps!

Always use a plastic utensil to pop them out. Metal will scratch the surface. This model doesn't have the pop out dishwasher safe parts, but a quick wipe down with a damp towel or paper towel does the trick. Also, dont forget to prep it on first use by wiping the grill surface with oil... I used vegetable. It may need a wipe down with it every 3-4 uses, as my 3rd use was a bit sticky on the final two.

If you are looking for a small, entry level waffle maker... this one will do the trick. It easily feeds my family of five quickly and now everyone looks forward to waffle day!!

Pros: price, attractive exterior, stores upright, the fact that it makes 4 waffles at once; grates are easy to clean

Cons: if you overfill it, beware - you will have batter everywhere and it will be hard to clean off any surface other than the nonstick grates themselves. The amount of batter recommended by instruction may not be correct - I had to guess the correct amount. It was closer to 1/2 cup than to recommended 1/3 cup. Waffles not as thick as I'd like but I suppose for that you need a "flip" waffle maker.

I've only used this waffle maker once. I see us using this at least once a week. The waffles turned out great and were a hit. The first 2 waffles did cook kind of uneven, but were still tasty.

I find recipes online to try for waffles and pancakes, they taste so much better than the boxed stuff (only good if you like cardboard flavored rocks). I'm convinced that the recipe is just as important as the tool to make it.

I tried this recipe and everything turned out wonderful. http://www.tammysrecipes.com/best_waffle_batter (Hint: Whisk those eggs till you feel like you need a new arm)

Ok I'm updating my review from 2 stars to 4 stars. This is why...this thing is crazy cheap. It's so cheap I'm throwing out the one I got last year and buying a new one, it's practically disposable. In fact this thing SUCKED until I broke it. Seriously, I broke the latch, wrote a bad review, made some more waffles and they came out PERFECT! Seriously the stupid latch ruins the waffles. Now granted I'm not making traditional flour waffles, I usually either use almond flour or no flour just egg and cream cheese. This batter REALLY likes to puff up quickly and if it doesn't have space to expand it just squirts out the side leaving a HUGE mess and really wispy, lame waffles. With the latch broken the lid can rise as the waffles expand allowing the waffles to properly cook and make nice, dense, full waffles.

Does this thing cook evenly? No. It's pretty awful at that, but honestly I've tried $100 waffle makers that were completely terrible at even heating as well, in fact I think finding a waffle iron that cooks evenly while still being VERY hot to get a crispy exterior is like finding a unicorn. So understand that if you want perfectly cooked, light and crispy flour waffles this isn't going to make those, get thinner style unit that costs more money and make sure it allows the batter to expand while cooking.

The BIGGEST issue with this unit and the reason I'm tossing my old one (and it's only 1.5 years old) is that the non stick coating is completely terrible and chips off. This is kind of terrifying because I thought ingesting non stick coating was pretty terrible for you. So instead of keeping this and ingesting cancerous crap I figured I'd just throw it away and get a new one and use that until it starts to chip. At this point I think most people would be upset thinking how AWFUL it must be to have to keep buying a new unit, but honestly for something I use 2-5 times a week, every week, that only costs $25, I figure I've gotten my money's worth and it's worth treating it as something that won't last forever. I don't think ANY unit will never flake off non stick coating, in fact I wish they didn't use that junk. I mean if you use a proper amount of fat in your recipe and properly grease the iron nothing should stick. Hell if they made a unit with cast iron removable grills that would be the be all end all device, but it would last forever and cook too well so of course that will never happen. So I'm accepting the fact that all these crappy devices use a coating that has a lifespan and eventually will stop working and start to chip and get in your food which means they ALL need replacing after time, they don't last forever. So basically what I'm saying is that for $25 this thing is pretty freakin' sweet, break that latch off, abuse it for about two years and then throw it away and buy another one.

This makes such perfect waffles. I used to have a 2 waffle maker, and really disliked hanging out in the kitchen while my kids and husband ate and ate in the other room, until finally the batter was done, I would sit down to have a couple and everyone was done eating! So now, with the bigger waffle maker, we can all eat together. This waffle maker comes with a small "fork" which has rubber feet on the end. Do not throw this away! It's the best way to keep your waffle maker non-stick for years to come. Just use it to pop off the waffles when the green light comes on indicating they are done. Oh, and this particular waffle maker seems to hold in the steam a bit, so when it cools down for an hour or so be sure to hang it over the sink for a few seconds before storing it away to let the moisture drip out.

I don't like thin, crunchy waffles. I much prefer Belgians. Soft and fluffy, just the right amount of crispy-ness on the outside. This waffle baker makes great waffles, and for a good price. Be careful though, the outside can get pretty hot. Keep the kiddos away from it. I am a little hesitant to use it sometimes, the plates aren't removable so cleaning it is a real bear. I have a VillaWare maker with removable plates that only does 2 waffles at a time (or pizelles, or sandwiches) which was fine when it was just hubby and me, but we're a family of 5 now, and two waffles every 5 minutes doesn't cut it. I love my VillaWare, but I just can't afford to buy another one. This one is a suitable substitute, I just have to be prepared for a big clean up job after.

I love this waffle maker...you can make four waffles at a time, which is why I bought it. usually they only make one for the round type of Belgian waffle maker or two for the square type. For a big family, you need this one....it makes four at a time! This way you can serve one person two, and another person two, then cook some more! It makes perfect waffles. I add a little vanilla and cinnamon to my batter and the kids LOVE them! Also add some mini chocolate chips and top with ice cream for dessert! I'm going to have to buy another!

I would give this item a full five stars, but the plastic clip that holds the two griddles shut will sometimes shoot off from the pressure of waffles rising inside. That piece can be snapped back in place with the spring with ease if you can find them.

-Heating is fairly uniform.

-Griddles seems to be non-stick (it will lose this characteristic if left on with no batter inside.)

-Easy to clean except for the hinge and inside the heat control.

-Still operates well after several drops.

-Fits nicely inside a cupboard.

-The 2' power cord can be limiting sometimes.

It is not the best waffle maker, but is certainly good quality at a decent price. I'd recommend this product to anyone who likes waffles.

I havent used it this waffle maker a lot but the few times I have used it has worked perfect. Its small and compact and fits perfectly in our cabinets not taking a lot of space. And it is not heavy or hard to pull in and out of the cabinets.

UPDATE:
Ive had and used the waffle maker now for a while. Only recently have I been using it a lot more. Since 2014 I havent used it much at all. Here are my complaints. There are not a lot of places to touch on this waffle maker that you dont burn your hand. Its very hard to open and not scold yourself. The front where the "lever" thing is, also gets hot. It might be from the steam or the heat omitting from the grill, but either way its freakishly hot. If you close it securely while making a waffle, to open it you have to push that lever. Since it gets hot its very hard to open and it gets stuck. So best thing is just dont securely close it. Overall Ive made some good waffles on this waffle maker. I dont like the thickness of them but then again this is a Belgium waffle maker. I would like to find one that has smaller thiner waffles and doesnt burn my digits while cooking. This was cheap and its small and compact. But I wouldn't buy this for a friend and I doubt I would buy it again. I feel like the design was not well thought out. Why would you create a waffle maker that you virtually have no where to touch that isn't hot? Just my two cents.

This is an excellent little waffle maker. It makes waffles that are almost 100% uniformly browned (there were a few light areas on my first batch, but the instructions say browning will improve with time). After the first two waffles, the lid started sticking so I had to spray it with cooking spray. My batter was very thick at first and would spread out for several seconds, so it was tricky to pour the right amount for a full waffle without the batter leaking out the sides. I watered down the batter for the last few waffles and that helped with estimating the right amount to pour. This was also the first time I've ever used a waffle maker, so it was a learning experience. A big bonus is that the waffles fit perfectly in my toaster for re-heating:)

I compared to many others including the flip over and choose this one because of the products name which usually insures quality. The price was good for a unit that you can vary temperature settings depending on the softness or crispiness that you desire for eating. The storage is what impressed me. Close the lid and it stands off to the side in the cupboard. Most did not have that feature. And with a flip over you take up even more cupboard space. Of course it is new and works well now let's see how it is a few years from now. The down side, it has to front rubber knobs that sits on the counter, and the back has none, so it has a tendency to slide. I have remedied that by placing it on a non slip mat this used to line cupboard. The other downside is the cord, it's loose and can get in the way when you store it. Other than that I love it!

I was looking for a waffle iron, after having one many yrs ago that I ïnherited (it was used but worked great). Don't remember what brand it was as I haven't had it in apx 15yrs, but remember that the heavy chrome lid was "heavy" and you didn't want it slamming down on your fingers!

It was around Christmas '13 when my son came home from college and told me he "missed waffles" which he preferred over soft fluffy pancakes. So I was on an "urgent" search local stores during his 10day Christmas visit for a new, modern day waffle iron that was NOT huge & bulky, nor too expensive. Wow! There are so many choices of styles compared to the 70's-90's. So many to choose from, flipping irons, expensive & bulky, removable plates, non-removable. ps-seems everything these day are thicker Belgian waffles, not the thinner "waffles"of my childhood.

Stores didn't have what I wanted. So, I went to AMAZON, where I should have from day 1 of my search and after I read MANY REVIEWS, pros & cons, I chose this one which was perfect for my family, for an occasional breakfast of waffles. Not huge footprint, has a "READY"light when hot, and makes 4 waffles. I ordered this on Sunday 12-29-13 at 8pm and luckily it arrived via AMAZON PRIME Tuesday later afternoon 12-31-13, within the promised 2day free delivery. Hooray! It arrived before he left on Thurs 1-3-14.

Just wish it had 2 addition to make "perfect" for our occasional/infrequent use of the iron:

1) a longer cord (maybe they all have very short cords these days?)

2) a "ready/cooked" light when it's done (instructions say 3-6min, and after "steam"begins to end). Since we only had waffles 2x during his visit and I need to get the timing perfected. It seems for us it's 5-6min for a "drier / crispier" waffle. Hmmmmm, I guess I'll have to experiment to make the "perfect" waffle before he comes back at Easter from college! Yummy :-)

I wanted to try the Keto Chaffels that I heard about. This "no stick" waffle iron produced the egg and cheese chaffels efficiently and cleaniy. I enjoyed using it. Thanks for being a good product and good seller.

This works beautifully, but unless you EVER eat only two waffles, the only reason to buy this model is because you have VERY limited space for storing kitchen gadgets. I typically cook four waffles, and this gadget unnecessarily prolongs that process by forcing me to do it in two batches.
