The KRUPS Belgian 4 Slice Waffle Maker is an attractive kitchen appliance. The removable plates make for easy clean up. I am disappointed, however, that it does not bake evenly. The whole top of the waffles are half as done as the entire bottom of the waffles and the right back waffle is the least done. This leaves the waffles nicely golden on the bottoms and pale on the tops. When the ready light comes on and the buzzer says they're done, I have to flip them over to finish cooking. This is a moderately expensive waffle maker that is not worth the price. I do NOT recommend it.

I bought this not quite two years ago and have been wholly disappointed. We are a family of five and I upgraded to make breakfast faster to prepare from my single Belgian maker. It worked okay for a little while, but the temperature control is just decorative. The removable plates DO wash well in the dishwasher, but I have often put them into the machine in reverse which results in the plate falling out mid-cooking. They should be labeled to make it clear. One corner takes longer to cook than the other and it's impossible to achieve consistent results. We all enjoy waffles, but really only make them 5-6 times a year, and I'm ready to move on to something else. It's too big to store to be this inefficient.

I bought this 3 years ago from a Wirecutter recommendation because I loved the plates could be removed for the dishwasher. But after using this for 3 years, once every 3-4 months, I don’t like this waffle maker at all. The browning setting is inconsistent, the done signal beep is inaccurate, and all my waffles come out totally flat instead of fluffy, no matter the batters I use. However, it IS easily cleaned in the dishwasher. I would NOT recommend this waffle maker at all, especially given the price. A basic intro waffle maker would be a better value. I don’t make waffles too often so it’s not that big of a deal, but I’m still bummed about my decision to buy this waffle maker because I’m never excited to eat the waffles from this machine.

This machine is jacked. I should have listened to the reviews. Positives: it can make lots of waffles at once and the plates are dishwasher safe. Drawbacks- there is some black gunk on the back of each plate that will get all over your hands, no matter how many times you clean it. The machine makes a gargling beep on and off that sounds like the machine is melting. This beep has nothing to do with the temperature of the iron nor with the readiness of the waffles. I under no circumstances recommend you buy this waffle iron.

While we are loving the waffles that we're making with this machine, I couldn't give it a higher score for safety reasons. The handle and latch release used to open the waffle iron become far to hot to touch with bare hands, there's no warning recommending use of a mitt to protect your skin from burning and no mitt included either. Fortunately, I have some silicone pinch grips that worked out perfectly. I do like the warm up feature and ability to select variable cook times for optimum browning. The removable plates are awesome just remove wash and replace super easy. Also, makes 1 extra large waffle or 4 smaller waffles all at the same time which is nice to get the whole family fed together versus waiting 1 by 1 as each individual waffle is done. If they can fix the safety issue this one would be 5 stars. CD

The heating controls are a nice feature but the darkest setting is far from being acceptable. It is not possible to get a crisp waffle as some of us prepare. I needed to put the waffle into my toaster to get it really crispy. This can be a factor for some waffle lovers. Otherwise, the waffle maker is an adequate maker.

Came yesterday. FIrst waffle this morning. For those who post every kind of 'qualified' review, all I can think is that you have some sort of chip on your shoulder. Nothing could be easier or more straightforward than using this waffle iron. To be clear: we (1) unpacked; (2) plugged in, allowed to heat to '5' on the temp control, observing the full cycle of yellow-light-green-light + 'ding'; (3) unplugged, allowed to cool; (4) washed gently with detergent and warm water, allowed plates to dry; (4) sprayed plates with cooking oik, plugged in, set temp to '4'; (5) mixed batter, loaded waffle iron as soon as green light came on + 'ding'; (6) waited impatiently for the green light to go out, then come on again + 'ding'; (7) removed perfect, lightly-browned waffle; (8) sat down to breakfast. I don't know why, but as I shopped for this item I was impressed by the number of 3 or 4 star reviews, any one of which found some basis for complaint. The one that sticks in mind was someone who complained that the little ding-y bell that signals 'ready' -- was too loud. Hello?! The thing JUST WORKS. Woo-hoo and bravo. Oh. The iron, after this one cycle of making its first waffle, looks perfectly clean. The waffle plates have droplets of the cooking oil spray on them, otherwise not a crumb. They'll go in the dishwasher. What could be easier?

My son, who is home from college, purchased this one; he didn't like my old five hearts shaped one. At first, I was like, why do we need a new waffle iron, and seriously you spend how much money? But this waffle iron is worth every penny. Every weekend we have been experiencing with different recipes for real Belgium waffles (Liege or Luikse waffles), which are made with Belgium Pearl sugar. No longer do I need to keep checking if the waffles are ready, you plug it in, spray the plates, turn it to the highest setting, and when the sound goes off, you put in the batter. The Belgium Waffle Maker produces a sound after 6-7 minutes when the waffles are done. Clean-up is easy as well; when the plates are cooled off, you can take them both out and clean them in the sink with soap and water. Honestly, this waffle maker is perfect! They say ” perfect tools are half the work, ” well this Waffle Maker is undoubtedly perfect.

I had to replace my old Krups Belgian Waffle Maker which I absolutely loved. This model is not up to the same standard. First, the waffles are thin, not thick like a true Belgian waffle; second, the heating elements are terrible! The top one cooks way faster than the bottom so they're half light and half dark. Third, it takes double the time to cook. I used to be done in 3 minutes, now it is more like 6 per batch. Last, the handle gets HOT...too hot to touch. I am so disappointed in this product and would not recommend it. It might have been fine if I did not have my previous Krups but now my standards are high. Too bad.

I found this waffle maker in Wirecutter's "The Best Waffle Maker" post, where it was ranked as a good budget pick. I think the right waffle maker is going to be partially based on personal preference and lifestyle, so it might help to know why I chose this one: 1. I like square waffles (for more modular freezer storage) 2. I wanted deep grid Belgium-style waffles 3. I wanted custom browning preferences 4. The plates are removable and dishwasher safe 5. It's compact 6. It is affordable I've made about a dozen batches of different waffles now and I think this is a great iron. For reference, I've used mochiko sweet rice flour, Kodiak Cakes buttermilk, rolled oats as a base, and have tried it with wet ingredients: water, coconut milk, flaxseed milk, egg, and purees. I use Pompeian Cooking Spray instead of PAM (no propellants) before each batter batch (not each pour). Spraying lightly once per batch is enough. I use the OXO large cookie scoop (3 tbsp) to move batter onto the plates. Approximately three rounded scoops using this scoop is perfect for each waffle. This helps a lot with batch uniformity. I've never had an issue with batter sticking to the plates upon removal. If the waffles are too soft after cooking, it can be difficult to pull out without denting the waffle. I find setting 4-5 best regardless of what kind of batter I send in. This yields a sturdy waffle structure. The beep on this maker is pretty loud. My partner mistakes it for an alarm every time (I'm sure he'll grow used to it). I was worried about sending it through the dishwasher after seeing other reviews with rust, but my plates have not rusted from the experience. However, my dishwasher did not do a great job cleaning it and I had to finish it off by hand anyway, so I don't think I'll send it through the dishwasher in the future. The waffle iron has cord management underneath and is able to sit upright on every side (except the side where the handle is, and don't store it upside down), so it tucks right into my cabinet like a book. I have no real complaints and highly recommend this product! Types of waffles pictured: purple potato, beet, sweet potato, matcha mochi, garlic onion black bean, banana chocolate chip oatmeal

I can’t speak to the durability of this waffle iron (I have only used it once), but it seems very well made. I used Aunt Jemima Buttermilk mix and cut the waffle recipe in half. My last waffle iron was a fairly inexpensive B&D model. I set the temperature control to 3 on the Krups, and put the batter in when the green light came on and the tone sounded. When the waffle iron indicated the waffle was ready, I opened it up and removed the waffle. I was impressed with how uniform the waffle cooked. There were no light or dark spots on the waffle. It was a uniform golden brown, and it came out without sticking.

My first waffle looked much better than the waffle in the picture All-Clad included with the description of their waffle iron costing more than twice as much as the Krups. I don’t know how one could make the Krups any better. Perhaps it is not as durable as it looks. After all, I have only used it once, and it is made in China.

I found the ready tone to be very helpful. This is the first waffle iron I have owned (50 years worth of waffle irons) where I didn’t have to constantly check for a ready light.

The Good:

1. Nice, large waffle iron that makes 4 square waffles each time. Very convenient for a family.

2. I have found Krups to be a good, reliable brand. Our first Krups waffle iron was similar to this one, and it lasted 10+ years.

3. You can select how light or dark you want your waffles to be. We keep our setting at “4”, and they come out perfect.

4. The heating plates are removable for easy cleaning.

The Bad:

1. The manufacturer warns that the waffle maker will have a smell to it with first use due to the non-stick coating. This chemical smell was unusually strong.

2. The power cord is crazy short.

3. The handle has a locking latch that has to be lifted up when opening. Nice idea for storage, but bad design: It’s right where the steam first escapes when the waffles are done cooking. I’ve almost burned my hand a few times.

The very loud beep:

Along with the indicator light, the waffle maker beeps when it’s ready or done. The first time I heard this “beep” I seriously thought our smoke alarm was going off. It’s really not a beep, but an ear-piercing sound that can be heard in the next town over.

This a 3 1/2 star waffle maker, but I will round up to 4 stars because it does make good crispy waffles.

Pros: Removable plates make cleanup easy; there is a small drip catching rim to minimize spillover to counter; latches well during cooking process; the waffles released easily without needing cooking spray; 5 browning settings; a timer rings when the waffle is (supposedly) ready to eat.

Cons: My main complaint is that cooking was uneven across the baking surface, even at the highest browning setting, with the waffles on one side only slightly done and still a bit soggy, and those on the other side somewhat more done. Crispness was only obtained by leaving the waffle in the pan well beyond the point when the timer signaled the end of baking time.

This waffle maker has a very large footprint which may be an issue in smaller kitchens.

Sadly I had to return this waffle maker.

There is a smell while they cook that must be from the non stick coating... I really despise it.

<Yes, I removed the foam, plastic, sticker, and light plastic from in between the plates as well>

Other than that.... lacks vents so it releases steam all over the top which worried me that I did something wrong at first, but still cooked up nicely. Could a design with vents work better?

I opened it once during the first batch to show my son how to do it and put it back, but the waffle maker still knew it wasn't ready and didn't restart. That was nice.

Love the audible alarm but not sure ill keep it. I'm looking to make a fine Belgian Waffle. The thickness is fine.

Purchased this KRUPS Waffle maker - KRUPS 8000035972 GQ502D Adjustable Temperature Belgian Waffle Maker with Removable Plates, 4-Slice, Silver and Black - in Oct of 2018 and it failed to heat up 12 months after purchase (in Oct of 2019). After numerous communications with their customer service, sent it in for repair. It took a month to get it back. After using it again 4 or 5 times, the buzzer has now failed to alert. Notified Krups over a month ago but no response yet. The unit is still within the 2 year warranty period.

I read some unfavorable reviews, and as with anything, a little gentleness and care makes things last longer. Great appliance, but since it was unavailable anywhere for quite a while, I took a chance on a new one with a damaged box (condition noted from Amazon prior to purchase) because that is all I could find on line, and I wanted this one because of the removable plates for easier cleaning. I was purchasing for myself, so box condition was not a deal breaker. Been setting on 3 1/2 and waffles are great! Now, most importantly, I believe others had issues with the plate latches... I did too, and it is because the plates are NOT interchangeable! The Krups manual doesn't mention this, so perhaps others are having issues for this reason. I put a dot of White-out on the front edge of the bottom plate and one on the appliance edge, line them up, and depress the plate release button when I insert them and it attaches perfectly!

I bought this to replace a similar model that I had for about 25 years. It worked perfectly all those years until is suddenly stopped working. I was worried that the replacement wouldn't be as good. This model seems to be as good. It has two differences: it has an adjustable browning feature, but I find that I have to put it on the highest to have it brown adequately and the browning plates are removable for cleaning, even though on the old model as long as I buttered the plates before using, waffles never stuck and and I only had to wipe the plates with a paper towel. The new model instructions say to oil lightly before use. I've used it about five times and so far so good.

I bought this waffle maker about 3 years ago. After one year, the beeper started malfunctioning. I had it replaced under warranty, which was nice, but now the replacement waffle maker is doing the same thing. There seems to be a design defect with this waffle maker that causes the beeper to go bad, probably due to moisture from the steam.

I bought this waffle maker for its removable plates. I figured that it would work well, with the Krups brand name. It doesn't. It takes about 20 minutes to cook a waffle, even on the highest heat setting! Because of the long cook time, the waffles come out rather hard. My other two electric waffle makers can cook the same waffle in 2-3 minutes. I donated this waffle iron to Goodwill, maybe somebody else will not mind the long cook time.

I love my new waffle maker! I had been wanting one for a very long while. I had initially purchased one several years back that I ended up returning because it took FOREVER to make a single waffle (It's hard to have friends over for breakfast if each waffle takes what seemed like 20 minutes).

This waffle maker makes four at a time and has an adjustable heater. The irons are easy to remove for cleaning. My only complaint so far is the temperature control knob feels like it's not really controlling anything and that it will break soon. I'm honestly worried about this, considering the price!

We like it, more versatile than our old single round waffle maker as making 4 at a time of "normal" size seems to work for us better. The only slightly negative thing I can say it that it takes up a lot of cabinet space and I need to find room for it but that's not the manufacturers fault.

We did find that leaving the waffle on a bit longer than the timed amount works better and gives you a nice crispy outside crust yet leaves the inside soft and fluffy depending on your batter recipe.

We have barely used our Waffle Maker. The first few times we got a taste of metal in our waffles. We thought it was the metal mixing bowls. Through those out and got ceramic. Still got a taste. Put it away for a few months and dragged it out again. My daughter nearly got sick from the tasted of metal yet again. Very frustrated waffle owner. It's going in the trash.

This is an awesome appliance. I only have two problems. First, the handle gets really hot. I suppose I could wrap it in bacon and call it a feature, but for now I am using an oven mitt to open and close it. My second concern is that I bought a ton of eggo waffles shortly before this arrived. No one is touching them. They are just forming a sheen of ice at the bottom of the freezer. Forgotten. Alone.

I was looking for a waffle maker after the Christmas and New Years holidays that could make four waffles and be sold to me at a reasonable price.I grew very tired of eating Eggos brand waffles from my local Sam's Cub. These kind of waffles are for children and are not for adults. Every time I purchase a waffle maker, my house guests do steal waffle makers and other kitchen items. My appliances and kitchen utensils were never returned. This makes me very angry due to the fact that I am on a low income budget. I had over a year and nine months to make the decision in purchasing a brand new waffle maker, so I decided to make the purchase on Amazon.com.

At first glance I thought the Krups Belgium Waffle Maker would be about the size of 8 inch cooking pan. In reality the waffle maker is more like 12 inches long and some what bulky for my kitchenette.

I use a shake and pour pancake batter dispenser that I bought on Amazon.com to make my waffles. That makes it more easier to make waffles. The waffles come out of the maker thick and hardier than the conventional Eggos brand waffles. I remember eating 8 Eggos brand waffles to fill my belly in one sitting . Now that I have The Krups Belgium Waffle maker I eat 2 waffles with 2 strips of pork bacon ,three eggs, and 2 slices of ham. Now I have a a full meal and a happy belly.

Cleaning the waffle maker is about 2 1/2 minutes. I like the fact that the griddle plates are removable and easy to wash. I never regretted purchasing this item from Amazon.com. This waffle maker is great for my lifestyle.

*UPDATE* I REALLY wanted to love this waffle maker. I received my replacement on time, and thankfully this one was not used! I looked it over and as soon as I took the styrofoam off half of one of the rubber foot pads fell off! What the heck?! Oh well, I can live with that. I washed the removable plates (the biggest reason I got this waffle iron) and turned it on to use. The plates were solid and didn’t jiggle around this time. As it was heating up, THE PLASTIC COVER CRACKED! To be fair, it did not inhibit the use of this product, but it was a big nasty crack that expanded as the heat went up, then shrunk back down as it cooled off. It’s not intentional, but this does seem to be a design flaw in the manufacturing. Super disappointed that I got 2 duds in a row! Going to be returning again, and not planning to reorder. *ORIGINAL REVIEW* I was very surprised that this arrived less than 24 hours after I ordered it, however, we were extremely disappointed upon opening it. It has a crack and chunk missing from it, and the owners manual has a stain like someone spilled waffle batter on it hen wiped it off. There is also a shoe print on the back of the manual! The plates were jiggling around too like they couldn’t click into place. I’m super disappointed that we were apparently sent a used and returned item. I would’ve rather wait another day for something not defective!

Finally got around to making a big batch of sourdough waffles. I ordered this model as I wanted removable plates in order to be able to wash them. They are easy to remove and reinsert and they washed up quickly. I had some leakage out the sides as I must have overfilled the griddle but no big deal for my first time. I had hoped that the lid would open up completely (as in top & bottom lying flat on counter) to make oiling them a bit easier but I managed well enough using a small amount on a pastry brush. First temperature setting was 3.5 (out of 5) and the first batch was so pale I turned the dial up to 5 and cooked the waffles about another 5 minutes. I will set the temp at 5 from now on. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase.

I got this on sale and upgraded from an old finicky stovetop waffle maker. The stovetop maker produced slightly better waffles, but only when everything is done perfectly. This waffle maker is so much easier, consistent, and user-friendly.

This makes four square waffles at a time, works quickly, and the plates are dishwasher-friendly. Good for a hectic family morning, in other words.

It allows you to set your level of crispness from one to five, but unless you like soggy uncooked waffles you’ll probably stick to the four or five setting. It’s relatively straightforward but the beep is rather loud. The waffles come out of the plates easily.

It’s a bit bigger than I’d like but that’s a trade off I’m willing to make since it makes four at a time. The cord wraps up for storage but has a tendency to unravel easily.

All in all, I’m happy with the purchase and I’d make it again.

Unlike most people who have received waffle makers as wedding gifts, we actually use ours pretty often - at least once a month. Our boys love waffles, so we make them quite often for breakfast. My biggest pet peeve with out previous waffler was that the cooking surface can’t be removed for cleaning. With this waffler, you can take the surfaces off and wash them. The temperature control takes a little playing around to get the desired darkness/hardness of the waffles, but once you find the setting, it’s consistent on every batch of waffles made.

So far so good. Best waffle maker I’ve seen so far, just on the ability to remove the griddle for cleaning alone is worth it.

Was so excited to find this waffle iron and make waffles like I had growing up. It made beautiful waffles and was easy to use. However, i can no longer use it as it has completely rusted on both the top and bottom nonstick plates. We cleaned and used according to directions. Over time more rust has developed. It’s now a goner and I’ll be looking for a new waffle iron. For the cost, not worth it. Too bad my brother took our parents old Sunbeam iron...it still works after 30+ years. Now everything is made to be disposable after a couple of years.

Purchased this because of the reviews. Was a pefect 5 star review at another retailer and close to that at Wal-Mart. Made perfect waffles's the first time with a Bisquick mix. Thick and fluffy!! 5* says it all. Worth $60.00 but paid less. Great Value. Look no further.

This does not cook well. Turned to the highest brown setting, it is not golden brown. The plates being removable is great, I’ve had good luck with other items in this brand but I would not recommend it. We need a waffle maker. Don’t want to return because we have family over that like waffles and the box was thrown away also. Very very disappointed. We ordered this to cook waffles on weekends and when grandkids stay over and like now, when a lot of family is here

My kids love waffles! For the last few years I have been purchasing the Eggo frozen brand. And when ever I run out. I am resigned to making pancakes. I dread the amount it takes to make pancakes!

As you know, the perfect pancake is determined by timing. For me that is a challenge. They turn out either under or over cooked.

To my rescue is the KRUPS waffle maker. This product is AWESOME! It's sleek, looks great on my counter top and it's very easy to use. Most importantly, it makes beautiful, scrisp, 4 large waffles in less 5 minutes.

Goodbye pancakes! Hello time! Also, goodbye to expensive out of the box Eggo waffles!

Worth mentioning are the removable griddles. Yes, they are washable. How AWESOME is that?!

If you are in the market for a waffle maker, I recommend that you give this product a shot.

My recommendation is all based on my experience. I love it!

Well made, easy to use, easy to clean. Recipe in Krups booklet flawed. For great waffles, crispy outside, soft but done in middle: Dry...1

During Black Friday sales I got all excited about spending money and with our other Krups waffle maker being a bit elderly I thought I’d “upgrade.” Finally got it out this Sunday morning to give it a whirl. The unit turned on and began heating. The power light came on and a few minutes later there was a series of beeps which indicated reaching desired temperature, but there was no “ready” light which was supposed to come on at the same time as the beeps. Tried one set of waffles and noticed they were not crisping up as I expected. I was supposed to turn a temperature select knob to the desired setting, although I just cannot understand why someone would want pale brown waffles. So, while checking the first inaugural batch, the top waffle plate fell off while it was in full heating mode. Also, in order to open the maker, the design has a snap button that must be pushed before it will open. Strike three. It’s going back.

Pros: Makes great waffles. The plates pop in and out easily for cleaning. I really like the large format. When I make waffles I like to make enough to freeze extras that can be redone in the toaster — with this format I can get a lot of extra waffles from three cycles, each about a 1 2/3 cup of batter.

Cons: The confounded alarm. It goes for a minute or more, and there is no way to shut it off. So the alarm goes off, you pull off the waffles, load the kids’ plates, and... you are enjoying your waffles serenaded by the sounds of a mouse stuck in a bug zapper. It’s awful. I like the idea of the alarm, but a quick buzz is all I need, thank you. This is really a terrible feature. Also, the doneness control knob is great in concept, but this one is useless. Perfect waffles to me are golden and slightly crispy on the outside, moist but done on the inside. The only way to get this is to turn the knob all the way up to 5. I can imagine wanting them a bit less done than that, but can’t imagine anyone using any setting below 4. If I set it to 3, I get barely browned, undercooked waffles. And yes, I am pre-heating and following instructions, with the same Alton Brown waffle recipe I’ve been using for many years.

But again, the job of the waffle maker is to make waffles, and I get great waffles from this one very time (setting it to 5, and putting up with the fingernails-on-a-chalkboard alarm). It’s unfortunate that some secondary electronic features detract from its primary excellence.

I give it three stars, because every time that alarm goes off I think about buying a different waffle maker and kicking this one out to the curb. But I will probably not do that. If it weren’t for the alarm and the doneness knob, it would be 5 stars.

We were SO excited about this large waffle maker and it has worked easily for several months. Then it started rusting and rusting badly. We dried it after the dishwasher and it keeps rusting worse and worse. We are sooooo disappointed. Unlike other reviewers seem to think that all negative reviews are user error..... this was not. We lightly sprayed before each use and cleaned in the dishwasher. We followed all directions perfectly. Unfortunately, we cannot use it in less than 8 months of use. We ecen stopped putting it in the dishwasher when we thought it might be starting to rust. Even then it was too late. Completely rusted. We used it 1-2 times each week. Now back to square 1. So disappointed.

Takes way to long to heat up and to cook. Only the top 5 min crisp even at 4min it's still soft and not quiet done. It takes way more batter then my last Belgium waffel iron. Heating was not even after the first set of waffles the iron. Stops hearing up fully

This waffle maker works - we get waffles that don't stick to the iron. We find we have to leave them an extra few minutes after the beep since we like ours with a little bit of a crispier outside which isn't a huge deal. The odd thing is that the beep function is weirdly dying. I'm not sure if the heating element messed with the electrical or something but it makes the saddest beeping sounds and almost rings while its running now that we've used it about 5 times. It continues to work but I'm not sure how much longer it'll keep going. It isn't a huge deal since its a special occasion when we make waffles but it does the job just fine.

I bought this because it had very high reviews, but it is not worth the money and I am looking for another waffle maker. This makers is very slow to warm up and cook the waffles. Also the waffles that it makes are not evenly cooked on both sides. I have to flip the waffle over when the alarm goes off and let if cook for another minute. This is the only way that both sides are evenly cooked. The bottom appears to be hotter than the top.

I love this waffle maker. Pros: makes a lot at once, plates are removable AND dishwasher safe (I was scared to put them in the dishwasher because I want to keep this forever, but I was sick and didn't want to take the energy to hand wash them and they came out absolutely fine...2 times!! yay!) Con: it takes a while for them to bake. But it's still faster baking overall than my last waffler because it makes about twice the amount of a regular sized waffler. The waffles come out perfect. Nice and crispy (on 5). Use about 1/2 cup batter per square, 2 cups per whole waffle iron. I had to send 2 back because they were broken (I assume during shipping). But the third one was a keeper. I'm so happy with this purchase.

Love it! Bought it to replace my old broken Belgium waffle maker. This one makes 4 perfect rectangular toaster sized waffles at a time that are smaller than my old Belgium waffle maker, but still plenty big for a hearty breakfast topped with fresh fruit and your choice of syrup or butter, or toppings... getting hungry just thinking about it! You can adjust the cook time and make perfect crispy golden waffles for breakfast, then turn down the cooking time to make a whole bunch of lighter cooked waffles for the freezer. They’re a perfect fit in the toaster and great for a quick before school breakfast with fresh fruit on top. Amazing recipe for lunch - leave out the vanilla and cinnamon, add a diced jalapeño pepper (seeds removed), 3 chopped scallion stalks and a couple of tablespoons of wheat germ to the batter... they’re incredible with Agave nectar on top!

Soooo, it turns out this only worked well once. After that, even on the highest setting, only the first batch of waffles cook well. It only seems to get really hot once and then stay only mildly warm, not enough to well-cook any waffles past the first batch. I love the dishwasher-safe plates, but that's only helpful if the waffle maker actually MAKES waffles! UGH. Waste of money. OLD REVIEW: I was looking for an easy-to-clean waffle iron that could make a bunch of waffles at once. This one fits the bill. However, the temperature control is sort of a joke, the waffles don't really cook unless it is on the highest setting (5), so not sure why they even bothered to have a knob with temperatures less than that since it doesn't actually cook the waffles unless you turn it all the way up! But the waffles are great, the plates are easy to remove and clean, and overall it is pretty good for the price (I got it on sale). Not high-end, the beep is pretty annoying (but you definitely won't forget about your waffles!), but does make tasty waffles pretty easily!

Easy to use and makes great waffles, we even put ground sausage in it and make waffle sausages, so fun! However, the third time we used it, the beeper became defective, and now it just screams when the unit is heated up, or when waffles are done. Sounds like a fire alarm, just have to wait a few minutes until it stops, can't figure out how to tear the speaker out, otherwise i would, and itd be perfect. Love the removable plates though, so we're just going to live with our haunted screaming waffle maker.

I am very happy with this Belgian Waffle maker. Excellent features make it easy to prepare a large batch of perfect waffles to your personal taste. Temperature control with alarm for example. I make potato, vegetable waffle latkes! Krisp and perfect without deep frying. The non- stick coating works very well (just spray on a bit of oil). I just wish I could find out what material the non-stick coating is made of as I could not find it anywhere it product info?

I just used the waffle maker for the first time. I heard popping noises while using it but didn't think much about it. While cleaning, I turned it over and found the paint to be bubbled across the back and areas where pieces of the back seemed to have "popped" off. I am now afraid to use it. Would love my money back as it is going in the trash.

I was so excited to get this waffle maker, I have always wanted one with removable plates! They are very easy to pop in an out, but still feel secure when in use. We don't have a dishwasher, so cleaning the plates is still not the easiest thing in the world to wash, but definitely better than the struggle of trying to wash/wipe down our old one without shorting out the wires.

It does emit a lot of steam while in use that condensates on the top and sides of the waffle maker. Doesn't interfere with use at all, but it was something I wasn't expecting. It makes really nice waffles that are crispy on the outside which we attribute to the maker's ability to pull the steam out rather than letting the batter cook with steam making the waffles wet during cooking.

Some reviews mention the ready beep noise being annoying. It honestly doesn't really bother me, it's not incessant, just one little beep.

This waffle maker is also very big! I was shocked when it came by how big the box was, but it is amazing! It makes 4 full-sized waffles, which is great when you are feeding a bunch of people at once.

No regrets! Love this waffle maker. 10/10 would recommend!

Everything you want in a waffle iron and easy clean up. This product makes a perfect waffle every time. The beeper let's you know when it's ready. Durable and compact, a necessary kitchen appliance.

I like the size of this waffle maker and the removable plates for clean up. The design however is heavy and though it looks like a handle on the front it is only the latch to open it. Do NOT grab this by mistake when you go to lift it out of your cabinet! It’s very awkward to lift/move/carry even though it’s a portable type. It NEEDS a handle. I like the “ready” signal feature, however sometimes it only makes a faint squeaky sound like it’s dying. I thought about returning it, but didn’t. My son is enjoying his waffles and I am glad to have something big enough to make 4 at a time vs. the 1 at a time old one.

After receiving this waffle maker after my old one died, after more than 20 years, I was very eager to try it out. I used the enclosed recipe for Belgian waffles. They turned out delicious, and a perfect fit with the recommended 1/2 cup of mix per 4X4 waffle. The idea of making 4 at a time is perfect. I set the darkness at 5 and then 4. I preferred 4, as not quite as "crispy" but both setting were fine. I did not run into any of the complaints some others had mentioned. If anything the beep was too soft, not too loud. The waffles do take longer than with my prior maker but a small complaint for such beautiful and tasty waffles. Highly recommended.

Easy to clean? Yes, absolutely, by far the best feature. Cooks waffles? Yes, but no better than any other. Settings 1-4 are useless, set it to 5 and you'll get nice waffles. The worst thing? The noise. It makes this awful horrible, shrill screaming noise that is exactly like my fire alarm for MINUTES. It doesn't give you a nice gentle little "Beep" when it's heated or done. It sits and screams this horrible shrill alarm for minutes preheating, cooking, or empty. It is so grating, it's going under my stove and never being seen again. This waffle maker is heavy, clunky, and dangerous. The outside metal parts of this maker becomes extremely hot from steam coming out from between the plates when it’s cooking the batter. THIS IS NOT COOL TO THE TOUCH ON THE OUTSIDE WHEN IN USE. I Was shocked at how hot this got. Please use oven mits to prevent getting burn. This maker also takes up quite a bit of counter or cabinet space. Do not store on a high place in case it falls when trying to retrieve it. It’s heavy. There’s no off button, you have to unplug it. However, it does make golden brown waffles with deep squares to hold syrup and butter.

Have two Hamilton beach nonremoveable maker, love can make eight waffles at one time. A pain to clean, carefully hold it, soap it and spritz with sprayer. Now with the Krups ones, just remove plates and hand wash. Definitely easier to clean plates. Best part with Amazon, was within a month of each other, spent about $30 each since bought "used" and one ended up being brand new, the other was barely used. Keeping an eye out for a possible 3rd one when see used price go down.

It arrived at my house at 10am and I had waffles made by 11! I spent days researching waffle makers and was deciding between this one and one that has channels on the side to catch overflow waffle batter. My last maker when the batter overflowed you would have to use soap and really scrub and scrape and it never really came off. I didn't want to have this problem with my next maker but I wanted removable plates so I went with this maker and hoped the overflow wasn't a problem. On the second round of waffles this morning, the batter overflowed and I still had many more waffle rounds to cook. After cooking all of the batter and letting the maker cool... the batter overflow that had been cooking on the side for probably 30 min fell right off with one touch of a rag! It was wonderful!

I was worried because of the reviews that the beep would be too loud. I was cooking with my family in the kitchen (5 adults) talking and having fun and I heard the beep comfortably. Not too loud, not too quiet. Its perfect and wonderful to not have to keep an eye on the indicator light!

I started on the 4th setting and ended up moving to the 5th. I like my waffles crispy but there definitely is a wide array of settings you could use for your personal preference.

The only thing I would adjust is the cooking time. Im used to about 2 min for waffles to cook but it took around 5 each round. Its manageable and I still get delicious waffles every 5 min but a faster turn around would be nice.

Overall I'm very very pleased.

My husband and I are elderly and we shopped for appliances that would make our cooking easy and cleanup also. What we bought all fit the bill! I read many reviews, but it so worth it! Now to my review on this waffle iron. It really worked like stated and cleanup was very easy. The waffles were done when the buzzer went off. Now the buzzer was plenty loud first waffle but surprisingly after that first batch the buzzer was barely audible. I could barely hear it going off my husband couldn't hear at all. But the lights still worked and waffle was done properly. Not returning we'll be in kitchen while cooking so doesn't matter as long as it functions without it. Cleanup was very easy. Plates are not heavy and I recommend handwashing only took a couple of minutes for complete cleanup. This is a waffle iron you could easily use everyday.

Will return, cooked only half of waffle, short cord, did not clean well. The most important factor was the heat. Could not touch handle, sides to clean and top.

I've been making waffles for decades, using various machines. After a year with this one, here are the issues: 1. Like others have stated, you need to leave it on high, and cook for 8-10 minutes, which is a long time! 2. It's large, so you have to find a way to fill it quickly, or the bottom will be cooking before you have all the batter in for 4 waffles. 3. You do need to spay the non-stick plates. So what's the point of non-stick? Even if you preheat the machine for a long time, the waffles will be stuck if you don't spray the plates the first time. 4. Your old recipes might not work. I had to redo my recipes, or find new ones, because they either never came out crispy, or were otherwise a disappointment. 5. The beeper is worthless because if you take the waffles out when it beeps, at around 5 minutes, you will have waffles that will then need a toaster to brown. And you have to like square waffles!

I had never made a waffle before (at least not in memory). I bought this waffle maker because it said the plates were removable - but I didn't realize how easy it makes waffle-making. It beeps when it's ready, it beeps when the waffles are done. Seriously - you just have to make the batter and pour - well...you do have to take the waffles out when they're done. But you get fantastic waffles every time as long as you wait for the beeps! I need a skillet that does the same! :)

The waffle iron itself works well, but when I washed the plates in the dishwasher the metal on the back of the plates had a strange chemical reaction. See photos attached. Not sure if it is safe to use them any longer.

I love the removable plates, easy to use, easy to clean. It makes 4 big waffles at a time. I use my old recipe, good each time. I made the recipe Monte Cristo Waffles that comes in the instructions booklet...….very very good. I recommend this waffle maker. Removable plates and 4 waffles at a time!!!!!!!!!

I've been using the previous older Krups waffle maker model for years and thought I'd treat myself on the latest model. What a disappointment to say the least. The waffles are so thin you might as well call them beefed up pancakes. While the older model is built like a tank, smaller and makes thicker waffles it lacks the removable plates which is the only positive of this model. The waffles do brown evenly which is also a plus. It is large, bulky and feels somewhat flimsy especially the temp. setting button. If you like thin waffles this might be your ticket otherwise look somewhere else. I'll just continue using my older Krups until it decided to quit on me.

Pros: It's very simple to use and easy to clean. The cooking plates come off easily with the push of a button. The user manual includes a waffle recipe, so I was able to make waffles the same day this item arrived. The waffles were tasty. I appreciate the beep that lets me know when the waffles are ready.

Cons: I felt that the highest setting did not quite make my waffles as crispy as I like them. I followed a recommendation from one recipe to leave your waffles on a little longer after the built in timer beeps and that fixed my crispiness issue!

This waffle makes great waffles for me but I expect results vary with the recipe you use. I use one from the NY Times Cooking site named "Easy Weekend Waffles." This recipe calls for flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, sugar, melted butter, and eggs, along with equal parts milk and buttermilk (the main recipe suggests plain yogurt instead of the buttermilk.) I think having butter or oil in there is key to the waffles not sticking. I use doneness level 4 but you could go to 5 if you want them more crispy. I drag a little butter over the plates before I pour in the batter but the nonstick plates work well.

When done, both plates pop out with a latch and they are labeled for "top" and "bottom." It's then easy to put them in the dishwasher or clean them in the sink. It is a bit slow to heat up and cook but it will get there. Watch the steam coming out of the sides while cooking lest you get burned. I wind up the power cord underneath and store it on its side.

Let me just say that the last waffle iron I had was a free add on to a George Forman grill that we received as a gift and it lasted longer than the grill... I had it for 16 years!! After reading all the reviews, I purchased this waffle iron... We had only used it twice and the third time the timer that is supposed to go off when the waffles are ready started going off continuously... it sounds like we are cooking crickets. It is so annoying! One thing is for sure, no one makes things to last any more!! Oh and make sure if you buy electronic products from Amazon... you try them out frequently and SOON... my return window CLOSED two days before this happened!!

Don't get me wrong, this is a pretty good waffle maker. I'm just not so sure of the "Belgian" aspect of it. The waffles are certainly more deeply "pocketed" than an eggo or something, but not quite as big as what I think of with Belgian waffles. But they're certainly tasty. I like crispy waffles, so I turned it up to the highest setting and don't move the dial. I also tend to let it go a little longer than the timer. It does take a while to cook, and while I like having the audible alert the beeper sounds exactly like my smoke detectors (though not nearly as loud). However, you get 4 ~5" square waffles each batch, so they do build up pretty quickly. And I really like that the plates come out for easy cleaning, while fitting securely during use. And there's no sticking at all, which was the final straw for my old waffle iron

I absolutely loved this waffle maker and was ready to write a 5 star review. And then, after three uses, I noticed that the nonstick coating started flaking off of the upper waffle insert. (I am very careful with my possessions and did nothing that would cause the flaking.) Worried about ingesting this coating, I contacted Krups, and was told that this was considered normal wear and tear, and that I could purchase a new upper waffle insert for $20 + shipping. I completely understand that normal wear and tear wouldn't be eligible to be replaced, but I also think it's outrageous that they wouldn't stand behind their product when it starts to fail after three uses. If they consider failure after three uses to be normal wear and tear, I'll go broke repurchasing the waffle inserts. I did respond to them asking if failure after three uses is truly normal wear and tear, and if that's the experience others have had, but have not yet heard a response. I'll update this review if I hear back from them. I am so disappointed as before the coating started flaking, I loved this product. I was raving about it to everyone I know and recommending they purchase. Unfortunately, I've gone back and retracted that recommendation :(

Fantastic waffle maker and very easy to clean. It makes one huge (or four normal) size waffles. If your waffles seem a tad undercooked, try adding a bit more batter to the machine. I was underfilling initially and not obtaining goldenbrown perfection. Once I added more, I got amazing golden waffles. This is a great product. I have had many crappy waffle irons, this one seems legit.

Very slow. Low wattage. It's kinda unsafe, as it has no off/on switch, so you must plug/unplug with a load on it. This makes a mess everywhere. There is no overflow mote. It's going to goodwill. I decided to spend a lot more. Breville for me.

Was looking for waffle maker with removable plates and found this one by Krups. Used spray oil only the first time and waffles are easy to remove without using oil since. We like crispy waffles so use the 5 setting. Seems to take a little longer than our old waffle iron, but comes out perfect every time. Since it makes four waffles, we're done in no time, Glad it has removable plates so can easily wash them after every use. Very happy so far...

I was looking for the affordable but great waffle-maker that I felt I deserved after waiting for so long to get one. Amazon had this one up on a pedestal as BEST out of all waffle-makers - accounting for price. Well none of these other people were lying, this thing is fantastic. Waffles are outstanding, and clean-up is just plain cheatcode easy. It's exactly what I wanted, which is weird, because I never find that. On second thought, I do have one complaint that makes it feel like real life: The cord could honestly be a couple of feet longer.

As soo as I opened the box the plates of the iron fell on the floor.

I thought this was odd and as I tried to put them back on they fit perfectly however they did not snap into place.

The little latch was bent and would not latch with the plates. (YES I COULD HAVE JUST SENT IT BACK)

However I used a small tool and bent it into the right place. I think it was damaged in shipping.

As for washing I will never take the plates off so it will never go in the dishwasher I will clean it the old fashion way.

The iron had an annoying BEEP when it is ready (EVERY WAFFLE) BEEEP BEEP BEEP I thought I was going to die.

The waffles are HUGE they are bigger than our largest dinner plates the waffles are one inch thick. They look like birthday cakes. I can eat 4 EGGO waffles but only 1/2 of one of these. That means one of these waffles ware = to 8 EGGO waffles. I would recommend this iron for any large family 2 to 3 kids not for a 2 person house it is very big.

I have been very pleased with this waffle maker. The old one made smaller waffles and the plates were not removable for cleaning. This makes roughly twice the amount of waffles compared to the old and clean up is a breeze (in the dishwasher). The beep when ready is a nice feature as is the adjustable thermostat (which needs to be fairly high).

I make my own waffle batter and this waffle maker makes them Perfect! Fluffy, soft inside and brown outside with a little crunch! I purchased 2 other dual waffle makers having to return them because they made horrible waffles. Not this one! This waffle maker doesn't say dual but the size of the waffles is just the same. You won't be disappointed with this perfect waffle maker!

My family loves waffles and we had the kind that you couldn't wash before. It would take an hour with a Q-Tip swab trying to get it clean.

This one has plates that detach and go in the dishwasher. Kick Ass!

We are happy eating waffles all the time now.

Love this one.

Oh, and you can cook 2 full cups of batter per batch, so total prep time is reduced.

I'm very happy we got this maker.

I used this product for my experiments in preparing various types of waffles for a cookbook I'm writing. The appliance needs improvements: First an ON/OFF switch! I didn't know they could be sold without one in the US! MAJOR FAIL. Even if on the cord, some kind of switch to cut power. Secondly, it's easy to burn yourself on the many edges which heat up quickly, as my son the chef discovered when he visited me. As an appliance, the waffle maker does work well, and I used some minimal oil on the grates so the waffles came off easily. Most people will want to turn the controls to 4/5 to get crisp waffles. In other words, the middle setting of the controls does not equate to middle level heat.

Spray plates, turn knob down to lowest setting, close lid, THEN plug unit in. Takes 5 min to preheat. Be warned, green "ready" light is dim, but the "beep" is more than loud enough. Despite that, 8 mins on max temp "5" produced PERFECTION on its maiden voyage using Krusteaz Belgian. That said, a few hints....

1) quick shot of nonstick spray to the plates only once at the beginning of each session, not for each load of waffles

2) you must CLICK the lid fully down after loading

3) DO NOT "check" on them, 8 min on 5, no peeking

4) reload, enjoy

My very first bake was AWESOMENESS, so ★★★★★ for now if no issues arise.

So far so good! Researched many waffle makers prior to purchase. This one works well and has an excellent price point. I was tempted to spend a lot more but then realized how much do I really make waffles? Since it wasn't an everyday appliance I went for an affordable option.

This maker is easy to use, cooks well, and has easy clean up. Love that the plates can be removed.

This is not the same as the model it's supposed to replace. The handle gets dangerously hot, the waffle plates come out of the machine for no reason other than it is cheaply made compared to the old model. And it makes thin waffles, not deep ones as the original did. This is a totally different product made in a completely different factory. We sent it back and are very disappointed they Krups abandoned the old model which was sturdy and made beautiful deep waffles. None of the advertised "deep" waffle makers make deep waffles now.

Like everyone else says, this waffle iron is outstanding. Removable and diswasher-safe plates are very convenient and make cleaning a breeze. Large volume also sets this apart--makes four bread slice-sized waffles at a time. Note that the pockets are not as deep as other Belgian-style waffle irons, like the old Waring Pro that I used to own, so if you're looking for really thick and luscious waffles, you may want to look elsewhere. This one is great for every weekend family use.

I've tried several current waffle makers and this one is better than any other I've tried. I like a waffle with a hard crust, not a soft mushy waffle and this waffle maker comes closest but still not what I truly want. The removable irons are a plus though they seem to be made of some kind of metal that gives off a residue so that my hands are covered with gray matter every time I take the irons out to wash them.

This makes some really fantastic square waffles and it's very simple to use.

Their recipes are great - just make sure you follow the recommended batter amount to pour in the iron! They came out fluffy, and perfectly crisp.

I love that the irons come out to be washed (and are dishwasher safe!) it makes clean up a snap.

It's wonderfully compact, and intelligently designed. It stores neatly, and is really very sleek - you could easily leave it out.

We've been looking for a waffle iron for a while. Most of the options were unacceptable because the cooking surfaces were not removable for cleaning. This one is.

It's easy to use and does a great job as long as you follow the instructions and allow the preheat cycle to complete. The only thing is that we like our waffles to be cooked a bit more than golden brown so we have to reset it and manually monitor the progress... this is not a shortcoming of the product... it's just that we like waffles a bit crispy and it's really no problem at all. If you follow the instructions and use it normally, it makes perfect waffles for most people. We usually only use half the griddle as we find that one each is plenty for a meal - it does make large, thick waffles. When you first get this, make sure you make extra batter or you may find yourself a bit short.

Cleanup is great! You can remove the plates and take them to the sink and wash them properly with a soft brush and soap (something you can't do with waffle irons without removable plates). The plates pop right back in without any effort and you're ready to go again. The price is surprisingly reasonable for the excellent quality of the product.

I would highly recommend this if you are looking for a new waffle iron.

Doesn't work as described in enclosed brochure. Takes much more time to prepare a waffle than stated. Also, the "alarm" on mine doesn't work. However, it does make a great waffle if you have a good batter recipe and learn how to time it. The recipe that came with it is OK, but I found a much better one from King Arthur Flour. After experimentation, I found my ideal time approximately twice what is stated. I add my batter and use a kitchen timer. It would have been nice if it worked as stated, but I didn't feel it was worth the hassle to return it. If you can accept the shortcomings, it works fine.

I've used a couple different recipes for this waffle maker - using butter or oil - and none of them turn out crispy. The burners do not get hot enough to make a crisp exterior. My solution was to remove the waffles from the iron after 8-10 minutes and then throw them in the toaster...where they did crisp up. Highly disappointed after reading user and other online reviews. I would not recommend purchasing this product.

I have only used it once so far but the waffles came out great. Cooked perfectly. Makes true thick belgian waffles. Quick and easy to use. I don't understand why people are complaining it takes a long time to heat up and cook. Only took a few minutes and it makes 4 at a time. My picture shows the waffles on the left using the 3 minute setting (my preference) and the waffles on the right at the highest setting (5 minutes) if you want it more crispy. Thank you amazon for the recommendation.

This thing is AMAZING! My first new waffle maker in many years has become a favorite. The removable plates go right in the dishwasher and are ready to go, no problems with black coating rubbing off as per some reviews and the signal tone is no more offensive than timers on washer, dryer, microwave, etc, so no complaints! Granted, this is a bit large and somewhat heavy but on the up-side I have made hash browns, sandwiches and french toast without issues and will try some type of pizza next, just a matter of experimenting so nothing to lose and I'm not afraid to try, I'm happy!

My family loves our new waffle maker. The beep isn't too obnoxious, and the removable trays are really easy to clean. Plus, this waffle maker makes 4 waffles! Our old one only made 2 at a time so this is a major improvement. The only thing that concerns me is how hot the entire machine gets. The top and the sides get very hot. The handle to open the machine stays cool, but the second you open it, your hand is blasted with super hot steam. So maybe wearing an oven mitt might be necessary.

It makes such yummy waffles, & no mess, because you can make so much at a time! I just returned & reordered it, & I'll just have to handwash. My recipe is adapted from the Crisco cookbook. 2 1/4 C. flour 1 1/2 T. sugar 4 t. baking powder 3/4 t. salt 2 eggs 2 1/4 C. milk 1/2 C. oil

Ever get a hankerin' for something and it won't let go?

That's what happened last week, "Waffles" it demanded! Where did that come from, I wondered. I haven't had waffles since... what? The 1980's?

Every day, "Waffles!" OK, OK, OK, I give up.

The Krups GQ502D is an Amazon fave, let's go with that.

A couple of days later, here we are. I'd gotten some assorted fruit while the GQ502D was trucking it's way to my door, and finally here we are.

I took the plates out of the machine to give 'em a quick soao-and-water scrub, then after drying, brushed on a bit of oil to help the non-stickey coating a bit, whipped up some Snoqualmie Falls pancake mix while the machine pre-heated... about 1 cup mix with 1 cup water was just about right to cover the lower plate, beep beep beep beep, said the machine- in went the batter, locked the lid down and waited for the second set of beeps.

I set the brownness dial at about the 1 O'clock position, and about 7 minutes later, it's time for the big Voila!

I'll let the picture finish the story-

I would not recommend this waffle maker for two reasons. It takes a long time to heat up and to cook the waffle, and the outside of the waffle is soft and will not get crispy unless I burn it. I had to turn it to the highest setting to even began to brown the outside of the waffle while the inside was still undercooked. I had to cook it an additional 2-3 minutes after it beeped, indication It was done, to get it brown, and this takes a long time. It does not cook evenly, the bottom will start to brown while the top isn't even close. They will not get crispy on the outside, no matter what recipe I use and I have tried a lot of them, unless I burn the outside.

I like "classic" waffles better than Belgians...and these are definitely NOT Belgian :) I'm good with that, but the packaging may mislead others. Think back to "town fair" ice cream waffle sandwiches, and these are it! I used setting 5 (as noted in other reviews) to get crisp waffles with tender insides. They are very large, but an individual waffle will still fit in a toaster if you plan to make and freeze them for a quick breakfast. My family loved them. The removable plates were easily cleaned in the dishwasher...and that was fantastic! I had no issues as shown in the one review with pictures. It all worked out great. The only minor complaint is that the cord wrap bracket broke in less than a week. When the cord is wrapped, the plug sticks out. (not quite long enough for the plug to make it to the back of the wrap area where space is available. The waffle maker fell over on the counter and the plug bulk cracked part of the plastic bracket right off. Not a deal breaker for me...but a little discouraging.

Why does this say it's dishwasher safe? The underside of the plates get a gross grey dust after dishwasher - not unlike when one accidentally puts a a stand mixer part in the dishwasher that shouldn't be there. It's oxidation of the aluminum I think. Why isn't the underside metal something that can handle a dishwasher? UPDATE - Krups Customer service says because the grey residue doesn't get on the cooking surface it's fine! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ The manual says to use cooking spray - which is necessary or most recipes will stick. But cooking spray on a non-stick surface gets gunky/sticky after a while, and it's difficulty to clean properly since it's a griddle. Get one of those MR. Clean white pads and run it over the griddle after washing with soap/water. sticky gunk persists all over the griddle plates forever.

This waffle iron replaces a 5+yr old AllClad, which I thought was a very good product. However the AllClad finally just was not performing and we were looking for a replacement. This Krups is GREAT!! It produces evenly baked, crispy waffles and is by far a better waffle iron than my old AllClad. We usually will have waffles once every couple of weeks, and we are only cooking for 2 people.

We have found that the best bake comes from using the highest setting of "5" and using about 1/2 cup of batter per section. (Also, this is the first one we have had that "latches" down and since my husband likes to be the cook for these, we have to remember to latch it. Otherwise, just a bit less crispy and the top does not bake as well.)

Cleanup is EASY with the removable plates. One of the things I most wanted in a new waffler, were removable plates--to ease the cleaning process. And this works.

All of this and it only costs a fraction of what I paid for the AllClad. So far, we are very, very happy with the Krups and would highly recommend it.

After only 3 months the beep that is supposed to alert you that the waffle is ready started beeping all the time, a very high pitched (and terribly annoying) sound- it now sounds like a smoke detector alarm. There is no apparent way to shut it off and use the iron without it. My last Krups waffle iron lasted 14 years without problem which is why I decided to buy a Krups again. Terribly disappointed. This waffle iron feels flimsy and not well made, as evidenced by the malfunctioning alarm sound. I give it 2 stars because I like the depth and size of the waffles it makes and it is convenient to be able to remove the pans in order to wash them.

Wow what a waffle maker. This this is 'UGE, it is really impressive. It is 4 standard waffles in one shot. Took some experimenting to get the right amount of batter, but I was at nearly 2 whole cups to fill the thing.

The removable and dishwasher safe plates are awesome.

My only gripe, and this isn't a small one, is the setting knob and done alarm are both useless. Basically turn it to 5 and leave it, you'll never move it, it really needs a 8 or 9. And it means the alarm will go off way too soon. Basically I let it go until it beeps (about 4 minutes), then set a 3 minute timer to actually pull the waffles out. This would make it the slowest waffle maker I've ever used, were it not for the fact it is making 4 at a time.

Bought this as a present for my daughter not knowing she had already treated herself. What to do but keep it?! And am I ever glad I did. The grids snap out easily and survive perfectly in the dishwasher. Instead of waffles I’ve mostly been using it for grilled cheese sandwiches - deliciousness! There have been no incidents of the grids falling out. I only kind of wish they were reversible but that is not a biggy. Remember to use basting spray before each use and close the lid all the way till it clicks.

When I pay a lot of attention to the waffle iron I can make excellent waffles. But if I take them out when the bell goes off (even at the darkest setting), they are flabby, a little gooey, and not very good. Instead, I need to watch the steam and open up the waffle iron only when the steam has diminished to just so--and in that way they are crisp, light, and delicious (particularly if I use the King Arthur Flour classic recipe). But what is "just so"? Well, given the uneven quality of my waffles, I'd say I can't tell you. Sometimes I open too late and they are too dark; sometimes too early and they are still not quite at "crispy" yet. The point of the automation was to take this guesswork out. If I hadn't used the hell out of it in the last month, I'd be sending it back.

I researched waffle makers extensively before buying. Good housekeeping rated this as their #1 and we love it. It makes 4 large Belgian waffles so it’s better for someone who needs to cook 4 or more. It takes a little while longer to cook that my old Bella waffle maker, but it’s worthy the wait. The waffle has a wide range of temp settings, an audible beep when finished, and after spraying one time waffles do not stick. We love this waffle iron!

Cooked 1 waffle for 20 minutes on the highest setting and it still was not brown. My old waffle maker pumps out waffles every 2 min. I was looking to change to a square iron from our round one but the trade off is not worth it. Also the bottom plate could not be removed for cleaning.

I like everything about it! It's very big compare to others waffle makers. The plate are ( 9 and 1/2 by 9 and 1/4). They are a lot bigger than a round 8" . I have used it 5 time already! The first time I used the setting on three. It was ok. The second time I set it on 5 and it was perfect. Don't be afraid to set it on 5 It won't burn the waffles it will be just perfect. When you put the batter make sure you don't over fill it because you're gone end up with a big mess. One think that I like about the Krups 4 -Slice Belgian Waffle Maker is the removable plate. They're very easy to clean! I would recommended this Waffle maker to any one. It was a great buy!!!!

Was hoping for better given the great reviews. Looks good and sturdy in the pictures, but a bit flimsy in real life (made in China, after all). Easy to use, but inconsistent browning top and bottom and one corner does not cook that well. Find we need to add 3-4 minutes after the beep for setting 5 to get a properly golden-brown waffle. Easy enough to clean once you deal with the pool of buttery condensation under the iron, and the greasy steam residue down the sides and on the back. But maybe no model is easy to clean (though I landed on this one after searching for "easy to clean waffle iron"). This was a replacement for a cheap, messy model but the cheap, messy model actually made better waffles!

I've only used it 3 times but so far so good. At first I thought that the green light meant the waffles are done, but that's when the iron is hot and ready. The waffles weren't ready yet. They're ready when it stops steaming and come out perfect every time if you follow that rule. The plates are awesome: removable and dishwasher safe, and since they're nonstick I don't use any oil or spray and barely have to clean it afterward. The only downside is that it's a little on the large side but that's the trade-off for making 4 waffles at the same time.

I specifically chose this waffle iron because (1) it stays locked and (2) it has removable plates for cleaning. This is a large unit with some weight to it. I live FT in an RV and space is a premium so that is a bit of a drawback for me. The cord does store below the unit; however, it was not designed for the plug to lay flat and it just dangles out there which can be an issue for storage. You do NOT need to season the plates. I found that by doing so, it created far too much steam and made soggy waffles and I have had no issues with the waffles sticking. I like mine crispy and the highest setting was needed to achieve that. The waffles are quite large and relatively thick. So far I have found it easy to keep clean. For convenience you can make these ahead of time, allowing them to cool in the upright position to allow all the steam to release. I store them in my fridge until needed. For camping (or FT RV living) they can be reheated on a cast iron griddle pan quite easily and will crisp up nicely that way. I paid more than a basic unit would cost for the features I wanted and am hoping the Krups name still equals quality. If it lasts, it will be worth it.

This is the best damn waffle maker I've ever owned - the removable plates are 1000% worth it! Cooks 4 big waffles evenly - takes longer than a single waffle maker, but you're making 4 at once so no biggie. I make breakfast for me and my husband and our waffles are all done at the same time - score! I've also used this with (mostly thawed) hashbrowns and tater tots and they turned out great! Has a beeper and a light for when it's pre-heated and when it's cooked - nice and durable, will definitely last for a while.

Purchased this in store (not online order); overall very happy with product. It is big enough to make 4 decent size waffles at a time, or, a couple waffles and some hash browns (use the shredded type). I have also used it for making biscuits. Leftover waffles and biscuits are easy to toast in toaster next day - time saver! :) The only things I would complain about (keeping this at a 4 instead of a 5) are: 1) The bottom puts out a LOT of heat - be careful what you sit in on. 2) The selector knob is very small and very slippery, making it VERY hard to turn on or off or adjust the setting if you do not have a lot of strength in your hands to grip the knob. 3) It has one of the dratted short cords, which limits where you can use the unit unless you use an extension cord.

The waffles come out perfect all of the time. Nice quick meal during the hot summer months. And I know I will enjoy using in the winter. I am planning on trying to make sandwiches. Others have said they come out great.

It makes great waffles, however I have a couple complaints... 1. It takes a long time to cook, much longer than my old waffle maker (a cuisinart) and this is annoying if you're feeding a large crowd, and 2. The third time that I used it, the beep malfunctioned and has never worked consistently since. We either get no beep, a long slow (I'm dying beep) or a normal beep. I've learned to look at the green light to know when the waffles are ready.

This was a decent waffle maker until it wasn't. I bought it because my old one didn't have a ready beeper and now this one doesn't either, because the beeper just died (6 months, moderate use). For a while it wouldn't stop beeping, now it doesn't ever beep to indicate that the waffles are ready. I'm back to having to set my own timer and continually check on the waffles. Big nuisance. Big fault in a not-so-cheap appliance.

I really like the way this waffle maker works and the waffles come out delicious. It is very heavy and what appears to be a handle really unlatches the top when you try to lift it. When I was trying to put it away, It popped open and slipped out of my hands. The handle shattered but the waffle maker still works. Can that be replaced?

The top iron on the unit falls out i should have returned it but I'm a guy and decided to fiddled with it some and got it to where Its tighter and stays in good enough, this unit was obviously not inspected before packaging it up or this would have been caught. Other wise but this is a very dangerous issue if that hot iron falls out onto someone otherwise it works really good and cooks well.

I used this waffle maker for the first time today. It looks nice and easy to clean thanks to the removable waffle plates. It has an off switch so no need for unplugging to turn it off. It has browning settings up to 5. I cooked the waffles at the last setting and my husband said they were perfect and crispy. Personally, I thought they were too crispy so a lower setting would of been best for me. So due to the browning settings, it should make everyone happy. It beeps when preheated and beeps when the waffles are done. I purchased the Farberware 2-Slice Waffler Maker with Removable Plates prior to this one but returned it due to the fact you can only cook two waffles at a time. It took too long to cook the next two waffles, so you are left sitting at the table for a while with an empty plate. That was a nice easy to clean inexpensive waffle maker. So if you only need two waffles, then it will be a perfect simple waffle maker for you. But it needed to be unplugged to turn it off and no beeps indicating it has been preheated or that the waffles were done.

This waffle maker is awsome u test it to the limits and i didnt have to put any oil or butter o the plates. I even turned the temp to 5 which is the highest and it didnt burn or stick it gave me a nice perfect crisp and taste so good. I used it 10 times and still no sticking or burning and the plates are washer safe. The only thing is be careful how much you put in because it can over flow and spill out on edges and make a mess on your counter. Over all just wonderful. The maker beeps you let you know its finished and turn green. Also Krups have been around making great business for 20-50years. Watch this waffle maker on youtube to get recipe ideas. Thumbs up! :D

Like that the plates are removable for easy washing. Also like that it has a light and beeps when the waffles are done. The only problem is the smooth dial that can be difficult at times to turn.

Makes excellent waffles, but: 1) Needs longer power cord. 2) Power setting knob hard to see/adjust.

This is a great waffle maker. It's of great quality, which has stainless steel waffle maker preparing very yummy 4-slices crispy and fluffy waffles. My kids love them. It looks so classic, beautiful, shinny, lightweight and doesn't consume much of the space in kitchen counter. And it's super easy for the storage in our cabinets as it has cord wrap and handle lock. Cleaning is so easy as it's coated with non-stick. But for the first-time usage, wipe the plates clean with a damp sponge, grease them lightly with butter or cooking spray, and heat. Then, you can prepare as many batches of waffles you want without any spray. This maker has 5 adjustable browning settings where we can prepare our waffle from light to brown. No mess or No miss in this maker. It has an alert that triggers when our waffle is ready to eat. It's worth to buy with reasonable price. I will definitely recommend many of my friends and colleagues of this wonderful waffle maker. My family going to enjoy delicious homemade waffles for our breakfast prepared from this fabulous waffle maker. I am writing this reviews as part of a contest.

It cooks the waffles well but the alarm is a bit too loud. It awakened the hungry sleeping Zombies that I was preparing breakfast for, before I had all of the defensive materials well in hand.
