I have used a few handmixers in my adult life time and they all served me well. But this handmixer does a little bit more. It is like an esxpandable kitchen tool that you can use with your hand and not have to set up a big mixer, bowl attachments and all that stuff. I received this a year ago as a gift. I've been wanting a stand mixer from Kitchenaid for years, but don't actually cook enough to ever justify the price tag - this is a great option is you're in a similar situation. I use it mainly for making and it's fantastic! It's also easy to clean and the different interchangeable parts (whisk, dough hook, etc.) are a good bonus. I love this hand mixer! It replaces a cheap one that lasted 18 years so I haven't had this much power of features in a long time. I mostly like the slow start up feature which is simple but brilliant! It really does help keep the ingredients in the bowl. The power is also very consistent and strong which I like! I had no problems mixing up a thick batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and that batter is THICK! I also love the extra tools that come with like the whisk and bread hooks.
